To be honest, I doubt things will ever get as complex as we're discussing it - the actual depth of the military and political intrigue of Skyrim is mostly implied, not shown. It will also not likely be expanded upon significantly, and left mostly to the player's imagination.

Of course, in the world of ex-bandit Gormr Fire-Heart (who is far more savvy than most give him credit for), power is his and his alone for the taking, and anything or anyone that stands in his way or offends him in any way is fair game - including Jarls, Emperors, High Kings, and even Daedric Princes.

Yes, Ulfric might be High King for now - but the future is never certain. It just may be that Ulfric becomes more of a problem than he's worth - and likewise, the Dragonborn just may be in possession of a document implicating Ulfric in a Thalmor plot.

Oh, how the tables could really turn in the Dragonborn's favor then.

Or so my imagination goes. LOL.

Eh, no Thalmor document is going to hurt a Nord in Skyrim. Everyone know those skeevy Mer lie through their teeth. Anyway the dossier absolves Ulfric from the most damning things they could charge him with- the fall of the Imperial City and collaborating directly with the Thalmor.

Oh, the document doesn't "prove" anything in and of itself, no - but that doesn't mean it can't be spun in such a way that it does. My Dragonborn has a good reputation with the Nords, is resourceful, and has many connections - I'm sure he could make it very difficult for people to disbelieve him on such a thing.

Of course, ideally Ulfric would stay on the throne and rule Skyrim as the true Nord hero he is - with the proper advisor, of course (totally stole that line from Howe).

(Honestly, I'm just being devious for the sake of being devious - I'm actually pretty confident Ulfric knows what he's doing for the most part.)

edit- possible foreshadowing of a Solstheim/Morrowind DLC

The Order of Saint Jiub - As their martyred master instructed in driving a great plague from Vvardenfell, so today they strive to rid the land of plagues by beast. Their fighting chantries have expelled from Solstheim for reasons of depopulation of House Skaal’s totemic animals, but they do not appear unduly inconvenienced by this, as they have found many recruits in the poorer colonies of the New North. Through the gratitude of Boethia for tirelessly clearing his hedge-mazes of an infestation of Chicaneries, a new island has risen from the ocean floor, which they now hold as the bone repository of the relics of their founder and as their fortress-temple. The seal of their order is the cliff racer.

This made me lol.

Anyway, I could see a conflict between the Dunmer and Skaal on Solstheim. But I wouldn't like this. The Skaal are good Nords, unlike the backwards, ice-brained Stormcloaks, I do not wish to kill them.

Honestly I would pay for this DLC gladly.

Go back and see Thirsk, Raven Rock, and the Skaal village again.

What's so great about them?

Err, the Skaal are barbarians and are even more mistrustful of outsiders than the Stormcloaks - not sure where you get off implying otherwise.

I wonder how the Dunmer and the Skaal get along, since some Dunmer have been living on Solstheim since the Red Year. I always imagined that my Dunmer protagonists came from Solstheim. I recall the book "On the Great Collapse" making reference Solstheim and the Dunmer presence on the island. As Arch-Mage Deneth noted in the book, "When Solstheim was generously offered to the Dunmer as a new home, I was as surprised as any. I did not, however, share the apparent expectation that all dark elves would leave Skyrim. It did not go unnoticed that many in Winterhold were unhappy at how many mages chose to stay at the College rather than relocate."

But at least they don't deal with any political bull**** like the Stormcloaks do. Kinda like the Companions, but even more traditional and true to the ancient Atmoran ways.

The Skaal were more what I always though the Dragon cultists were once like.

They have that luxury because they're isolated so no one gives a crap what they do.

A quick note: the Empire is far more political than the Stormcloaks could ever dream of being - just about everything that goes on in it is mired in politics and bureaucracy. That's a big part of why the Stormcloaks are fighting them - to escape from the Empire's political machinations.

Well, and picture this- the Thalmor show up on Solstheim and start making demands. I imagine the Skaals would get "political" pretty quickly. The old fashioned sort of politics.

As in shaving off their heads and then using their skulls to drink from?

Heh, doubtful - but I wouldn't shed any tears if the Thalmor did meet such a fate at the hands of the Skaal. They have quite thoroughly earned a gruesome death.

Not really a big Elder Scrolls fan, but did the Thalmor exist in Morrowing or Oblivion?

They've always existed, but came into power after Oblivion crisis. They were a fanatical "Altmer First!!!" fringe group before that.

No, not in Morrowind or Oblivion (or we never saw them, anyway) - there was an original Aldmeri Dominion long ago in TES' timeline though, and I expect they functioned largely the same then as the new Dominion does now.

Is it possible to kill Thonar Silver-Blood if you end up killing Madanach, or can he only be killed if you help Madanach escape from Cidhna Mine?

Pete Hines tweeted today that Skyrim and Rage fans will have "good news and some surprises" in April. Whatever that means.
