I hope not.

I don't want them fiddling too much with dwarf lore.

Agreed. It's a stupid idea that the dwarves return.

LOL. If you guys say so - personally, I'd love to play a TES game where the Dwemer return and attempt to re-establish their kingdom. As would many others, I'm sure.

Although I'd like just as much for the next TES game might have something to do with Akavir - we know so little about the Akaviri, it's honestly high time that we learn more.

I beg to differ, the main plot wasn't about those things at all. The main plot was about defeating the big bad.

Oversimplifications for the win!   EVERY story is about defeating the Big Bad.  That's called  conflict.  Can't have a plot without one.

Skyrim?  Yep.  Stop  Alduin.
DA2: Stop Meredith.
BG1?  Yep.  Stop Serevok.
BG2? Yep.  Stop Irenicus.
Oblivion?  Yep.   Stop the Mythic Dawn/Mehrunes Dagon.
Morrowind? Yep.  Stop Dagoth Ur.
Planescape Torment?  Yep.  Stop  The Transcendent One.

What matters is how that story is told.  And that's called story telling.  Bioware generally nails the story telling, due in part to its focus on rich and deep NPCs who help tell that story, or otherwise succeed in giving  the player a reason to stop the BIg Bad.

Of course, others would. They don't know any better.

The best, most interesting lore about the dwarves was in Morrowind.

If you boil a story down to basics it really just kills the story.

Macbeth? Its about a guy and his wife who went power mad, and what they did.

It misses seeing a normal person go from being a loyal servant of his king, to a murderous tyrant over his entire country. That three witches tore a land apart and caused the deaths of a great many people just because they dangled a carrot in front of Macbeth.

Just like Skyrim is more than beating Alduin.
Its about fulfilling a prophecy, solving a civil war, exploring ancient ruins, dealing with factions and guilds as they vie for control over areas, and dealing with gods.

TES games are about exploring and seeing the sights.

Ha! Talk about borrowing wit.

It still stands. They don't know any better. And Morrowind does have the best lore on the dwarves. Not even an opinion. It's a fact of objective value.

Your point on a story being more than meets the eye is disconnected.

Macbeth's ride into tyrannical madness was a process united by King Duncan's grisly usurpation, not a collection of random events that occurred in Scotland.

TES exploring isn't a story. You listed events and actions that aren't related to each other. Skyrim has a main story, and it's very cliched at that. Even if you think that Skyrim has nuances that make it seem it stands out, it's still essentially about a chosen one being the final hope of a beseiged land. That's not some absurd reduction either.

That really is just your opionion and no matter how many times you state it, it remains an OPIONION and not a fact.
Skyrim is an WRPG is a fact.
Dwarves returning is a bad thing is an OPIONION.

Dwarves returning being a stupid idea is a fact. And given a hypothetical situation that it isn't a fact, it should be treated as a fact, mathematically, scientifically, and dogmatically. Why? Because it's a matter of good taste or better, the idea of an elven dwarf race dividing by zero than a bunch of elusive tinkerers is something the cretins don't get.

I don't neccessarily want an expansion/DLC that flat out brings the Dwemer back, because that would be absurd. Already they decided to bring Dragons back. If Bethesda's mindset is simply to have figures of their ancient lore make comebacks like some washed-up athlete or musician, then so be it. It's their World. But that smacks of lazy story-telling (no new ideas, eh?), money grabs (hey, everyone talks about them dwarves. Lets Give them what they want! Derp), pandering to kids (dwarves are awesomesauce!).   Ie.  All the things they shouldn't be doing.

That said, I wouldn't mind an expansion/DLC that seeks to further investigate the Dwemer disappearance. The Lore itself is flooded with theories on what exactly happened to them. A DLC where the final reward is a definitive answer to the question would be very cool.

Well given that facts can only be established if we agree to their underlying assumptions, or is a thing that is assumption-free, we truly can't say that what you say is factual.  You've blown by explaining your assumptions to gain any notion of buy-in.  As such, you've esssentially attempted to establish unverified assumptions as facts.  Hence, your conclusion is, nothing more that just another opinion.

You, yourself stated, it's a matter of "good taste."  Taste is the height of subjectiveness, presumption, and personal interpretation.  Taste is a matter of OPINION.

Really? Dwarves are cool? I didn't know that. they never seemed particularly cool to me.

And I agree, with such a heavy presence in the games, we should get to know a LITTLE more about them.

And, monkeycameron, I think you need to take a step back from the issue, you can't see it objectively. Objectively, there is no good or bad to bringing anything back, it's all one's personal views, whcih are subjective.

^Well, I think Dwarves are cool; actually it's the Dwemer I find cool. I don't think they're the stereotypical dwarven-type though. The residual storytelling regarding them while exploring their ruins does make them very intriguing to me though.

But, hey, that's just an opinion, but every bit as valid as anyone else's I suppose.

Lets see...   they created machines. Mechanical spiders that still work. And transformer-like balls that turn into metal warriors and attack, and giant golems that spit blizzards and  can one shot you if you're not careful. And whole underground cities to house them. And they did all that way, way back when the rest of "civilization" was still trying to invent the wheel, figuatively speaking.

Yes, That's *cool*. Or at least it's meant to project the vibe of "cool".

Yeah, so I totally lied when I said I was worn out on Skyrim. I've been playing all day today - and it was worth every second, for I have done the unthinkable: I have turned the Imperial Captain who ordered my execution at the beginning into my Dead Thrall.

This is pretty major, as it was by sheer chance that I found out it was possible. I happened upon a Staff of Zombies on a nearby necromancer right after escaping Helgen - I used it on him after I killed him, but I noticed that the body didn't turn to ash after the spell wore off as it usually does with the actual spells.

Then it hit me: run back to Helgen real fast and fetch the Imperial Captain - ultimate vengeance shall be mine. Several hours of running around, questing, and Conjuration grinding later, I've accomplihed something epic beyond words. Captain Stick-up-her-ass is now my puppet, and will execute who I tell her to execute.

Glorious.

Oh  sh***, I forgot one. If you've been to Mzulft. Dwarves also managed to invent a GPS navagation system. You want an example of cool? There it is!

Wouldn't you know it!  Mzulft is one of three I haven't gained acces to yet (after 500+ hours!).  Off to find the Staff of Magnus later I supposed.

I've just picked up Skyrim for the first time since sometime in March.  I'm completely off balance, and forgot what I was doing when I stopped to waste my time to play ME3.

Found myself in the middle of a dungeon somewhere from my last save.

Just figured out it's Shroud Hearth Barrow outside of Ivarstead.  So I must have been heading up to see the Greybeards.  I almost feel like a noob again.  I DL'd the "Kill Moves - No Blur" mod, so I'm looking forward to getting back up to speed and  seeing some cleaner kill cams.  Also downloaded whatever patches have been released since, so I guess we'll see what it all fixed.  Knocking it back down to Adept for the time being.

Dead Thrall always creeps me out.

Hearing them whisper "thank you" when the die creeps me out.
I usually use it on a bandit then kill him after I am done.

I dont want to turn into the Wolf Queen.

LOL. I've been playing a gigantic douchebag on my current run who has zero morals and will readily commit even the most heinous crimes as long as he stands to gain from it.

Of course, sometimes he just likes to kill or beat the crap out of people simply because they annoy him. *stares ominously at Nazeem*

I admit I took a swing at some very annoying people a few times.

Bloody guards...NO ONE TOOK MY SWEET ROLL.
Asking a dude in Daedric plate that question is like asking some 280 pound Hell's Angel biker is someone stole his ice cream.

A) NO one is dumb enough to do that
B) IF someone somehow disproved A they would get pounded.
