SPOILERS Warning. Those who haven't done Black reach yet, please do not read further, unless you want to be spoiled...
Stop reading now....
Blackreach is friggin mindblowing. Without even trying, Bethesda managed to do the Underdark better than any D&D based video game.
But that being said, Blackreach (at the moment, at least) suffers from one problem: the content in it is...sparce. Landmass wise the thing covers, what.... 30% of the entire Skyrim province? Yet, there's only like 3 or 4 dungeons in it, and only about 2 or 3 things to do down there (collect red nirnroot and find an elderscroll)
I suspect, though, that this wasn't the original intention. When you're down there exploring, there are hints that the Devs were planning on putting a lot more into it but couldn't for whatever reason. For example: why is there a named dragon trapped in a giant orb in the Silent City, and who trapped it?; And when? What's with the Human falmer slaves and how did they get down there? what's their story? There's a Giant in Black Reach. What the hell is a lone Giant doing deep underground, in a place only accessable via Dwemer ruins?
