Awesome! Now I can share my feelings!
THIS IS THE MOST BORING OVERRATED PILE OF GLITCHY CRAP I'VE EVER PLAYED.
MORROWIND, OBLIVION, AND BOTH FALLOUTS ARE INFINITELY BETTER IN EVERY WAY AND THE FACT THAT THIS GAME HAS RECIEVED NOTHING BUT PRAISE IS AN INSULT TO GAMING.
IMHO of course.
1) Both Fallouts? Are you like, 10 years old? There's been 5 Fallout games. Fallout 1, Fallout 2, Fallout Tactics, Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas. I've played Fallout 1. I remember finishing it in about 10 hours. it was Ok (great for its time) but comparing it to Skyrim is silly. It's like saying that your bicycle is "infinitely better" than your 2011 Lamborghini Murcielago
2) It's certainly a matter of opinion on whether Morrowind and Oblivion are "infinitely better" than Skyrim, though. You'll find hundreds of thousands of Bethesda fans in each one of those camps. Personally, I'd Rank Skyrim up there as the better of those 3, but it's a close call when we bring Morrowind into the equation. On the other hand, I am honestly having real trouble understanding how anyone can say that Oblivion is "infinitely better" than Skyrim. They're pretty much the same game, except Skyrim just fixes all of Oblivion's annoying flaws.
3) WHILE WRITING IN ALL CAPS GETS PEOPLE'S ATTENTION, ITS ALSO A TELL-TALE SIGN THAT IMMATURITY IS YOUR PRIMARY PERSONALITY TRAIT.

Plus, anyone who wants to have an intelligent arguement about why Skyrim is an overrated game, I'm game.
EDIT: Also, + 5 points to people who think I'm serious. lol,

Actually, according to this forum's TOS, posting in a thread for no reason but to flame and incite (lets face it, that's what you did. I note again, the All caps) is, in fact, trolling.brettc893 wrote...

OT: I don't believe for a second that it deserved GOTY, but I love the hell outta this game.
I hope Dawnguard actually adds all the stuff it's supposed to (Crossbows, Vampire Animations, etc), because that'll add another 50 hours to my log.
Hopefully they don't go the "HER DERP VAMPIRE VS WEREWOLF" route that has been rumored, far too cliche.

But before we begin, lets make one thing clear. When we're dealing with a game as massively successful as Skyrim (12 million copies sold), being "over rated" is a given. It doesn't actually mean anything. One could easily argue that Skyrim is Over rated, while at the same time argue that it's a great game.
And that ultimately leads to a really boring debate. I'd rather debate whether or not Skyrim is a great game. And my argument would involve me citing everything the game does so unbelievably well.
Well, I'm wracking my brain trying to recall a better game that came out in 2011. Nothing comes to mind. Help me out?brettc893 wrote...

YES! INTELLIGENT DISCOURSE WITH ANOTHER FAN!
I'ld like to make clear that, while I do believe it's not nearly as incredible as it's made out to be, it is by no means a bad game.
I've played the hell out of it, and there are a few niggling things that irritate me when people say them, and we will use these to start:
------"I've Never Played anything as deep as Skyrim!"
------"It's one of the best games of all time"
------"The world feels so alive and realistic!"
These are the three that irritate me to no end. What are your thoughts on them? I will then counter point (I NEED TO ******, SORRY, I was going to give my side but etc.)
EDIT:
BETTER GAMES IMHO:
Batman Arkham City
Dead Space 2
The Witcher 2

Disagree to the first, didn't play the other two so I can't comment.
I will say this- Skyrim was my favorite game in a looong time.
Reason being that the game brought back memories of all the off trail hikes up mountains, around and through creeks, forests, and the like with my father.
Skyrim exists. Its called Upstate New York.

I can feel your pain.
I decided to try a no-magic, no-nonsense stealth/melee build after my illusion assasin/archer and boy, it's tough without illusion (and the Mystic Bound Bow - only two perks I took in Conjuration). The magic build felt like god-mode by comparison. I could neutralize most enemies in a blink with Pacify spells and generally easily dispatch from afar what I couldn't (just recently got the Master of the Mind perk).
Now with the no-magic build I find myself constantly reloading. I'm using a shield, but it hardly helps once the enemies discover him. And they tend to do so rather easily without the Muffle spell. Regular bows also feel very weak by comparison. I guess I need to break my earlier decision and get the Shrouded Gloves at least... Using Assasin's Blade and seeing only about 1/3 of the enemy's HP go down while they turn to attack you is disheartening.
Well, I'll try to persist. Gotta get the cool Nightingale Armor at least - that was the main reason to create him after all. Somehow the enemies sure feel super buffed on the Thieves Guild quests... or maybe I'm imagining things.
Try seeking Sniper's nests that are difficult to access, or look for places as a quick exit before firing that first shot.
In the first, some targets cannot reach a well discovered blind, even with Fireballs and other magics. And seek small recesses around your initial attack site that may be a decent place to reapply Stealth; esp nice if it is guarded by active traps. Remember: an arrow is often good enough to trigger them, too.
Thank you very much for all the helpfull advice. I'll try to pay more attention to the environments :-)
Hopefully that helps, at least a bit (I know it was sometimes helpfull against singular bosses, at least).

My thoughts on those claims:brettc893 wrote...

-Well the first one is silly. I'll definitely give you that. Skyrim isn't "deep". It's just Big. And detailed. And while the crafting/alchemy/enchanting systems can grab you and immerse you for days by themselves. I still wouldn't call them deep. I'd just call them "fully realized and dynamic" when compared to the crafting systems in most other games, which are typically nothing more than simple 1 or 2 step processes that take no thought at all.
-As for Skyrim being one of the best games of all time... well, it's definitely one of the best games I've ever played. Not sure how much that means in the grand scheme of things, though. But I imagine there's 1000s of people who will honestly say the same thing I just did.
-And the last claim is flat out friggin TRUE. There's no Ifs, ands, or buts about it. The world is more than alive. it Breathes. It engages you and interacts with you as if it's an NPC unto itself. You can go into a city and pick any random NPC and just shadow them for a day and see what they do. They work, then they go to the bar and drink; they chat with other NPCs, then they go home and go to bed. And People in the game react to everything. They notice what you're wearing, what you're doing, what you have in your hands. They notice when you're deseased and they react to threats as real people do. Hell, when was the last time you played a game that let you start a riot in the streets of a city? I managed to do this a couple of weeks ago in Riften. I dropped some leather armor on the ground and 3 people began fighting over it. The scene even attracted the city guards.

LOL to each his own. The Witcher 2 is probably the best one in your list there, but it's nowhere near the calibur of Skyrim, it Simply does a couple thing better (Story, melee combat, and arguably graphics.) But it suffers from what I call Narrative constriction, which is a huge negative in RPGs. (and NO, the amazing Chapter 2 Plot Fork doesn't mean you've got "freedom and agency") An RPG that forces you to be a named, fully defined Character with no weapon style choices, then forces you down its singular, pre-defined narrative, does NOT win game of the year over an RPG that lets you be anyone, do anything, and go anywhere...for hundreds of hours.
And don't get me started on Witcher 2's bizzare UI, which almost seems like it was deliberately designed to be a mini-game on its own.

I'd killed for a Vagrant story style crafting system in Elder Scrolls. Crafting is an area that Bethesda handles horribly.
@Witcher 2 is GOTY period /sarcasm

After the ME3 debacle, I turned my attention to The Witcher 2. The very first roadblock for me was that I HAD to play as a guy, and it HAD to be Geralt. I'm a girl. I realize it would have gone against the lore, but seriously, would it have been that difficult to just let me play a female version? Name her Sheralt or something. OK, fine, fine, I'm stuck playing Geralt. FINE.Yrkoon wrote...

I had a tough time getting used to the combat, because the buttom mapping seemed a little weird on the 360. I got used to it, but between that and the bizarre arena tutorial, it took me a little while. I agree with your assessment of the mini-game. So I have to hold left bumper, then hit A to meditate...or hold the left bumper, then use the left stick to pick a sign, then hit A....ugh. Just trying to see the stats on what you were wearing was a pain.
So, getting into the story, I did think it was cool that the story completely split in two. My husband played Roche's path, I played Iorveth's path. By the end of the game, my character was insanely overpowered, and I could basically just stand there when attacked, and not take any damage. I got to the end, and was like, "meh". It wasn't really earth-shattering.
I had planned to play a second time, to try out the other path, but guess what I'm playing instead? That's right. Skyrim.

I hate the Sims, but my sister loves it.
I get tired of sport games, but my dad loves them.
To each their own.
The one thing though that is a giant plus for Skyrim is its modding community and the support that Bethesda gives it. The Steam workshop is such an amazing idea that I just have to applaud them for doing that. If you dont like something you can change it, or someone else can.
Already there are new quests and activities going up.
At the end of the day I prefer Skyrim over a great many games.
Because I do have freedom to explore, and dont HAVE to do certain side things, if I dont want to.
Added to that I can beat a dragon to death like its nothing where as other games make them UBER BOSSES! Its kind of fun to just beat a dragon to death and walk off like a boss.
In my main game I have taken out more than 70 of them.
