My main reason for not using that spell school much so far was has been the level limits. But there are enemies that will never be affected by your illusion spells, right?

What? How is light armor the best type? As far as I knew, Heavy was the best type because there are perks that make it essentially weightless.
Well can't light armor be made weightless as well? In that case you're using fewer perks, get the same armor rating (because of the cap - this is basically the part that I didn't like) and the bonus perks for light armor seems better than the ones for heavy (like increasing unarmed damage and reducing falling damage).
I use Heavy Armor with perks that make it weightless and allow me to take half-fall damage.
Mad bonus points wearing full Legendary Daedric Heavy.

In any case, I take it there are no fundamental gameplay changes?
Anyway, I still plan to run through the game with another character. I have not tried archery yet. I did pretty much everything else though.
Well, if all you're doing is playing end-game with top-tier armor max smithed with 4xSmithing enchantment + 50% smithing pot, then I guess Light armor really is better, as it can EVENTUALLY provide the same protection that heavy would.
If however you actually play the game, heavy will make you far more resilent through, oh, I'don't know, 80% of your play time? 90%? My first character was a heavy armor Orc. He was mostly untouchable throughout the game, except against magic users and dragons (till he got MR equipment).
Now I'm playing light armor stealthy characters... boy do they feel squishy. The instantly die if a levelled opponent even sneezes towards them.. or two-three low level enemies. And I try to max the armor skill and perks as much as possible.
The fact that I decided not to use enchanting (I came to the conclusion that it can largely break the game) and play on Master surely adds to this.
In actuall gameplay the difference between light and heavy armor is just huge!
As for game changes... I might be wrong, but I think they largely fixed Smithing. Now the value of the item you create decides how much experience you get - a change that was much needed IMVO. Hooray for NOT spamming Iron Daggers to become Master Smith. Now jewlery crafting is very helpfull... and so scavenging Dwemer ruins for tons of free material.

Ah thanks for the info, especially about dualcasting. I did not know it doubled the level. That's very cool.

Think that's only dragons. I don't think I've met any other. Granted, I stopped playing my Illusion Assasin at level 50.
But if you consider that there are pots that can fortify Illusion (which I never needed to use)... and that you can also get a 25% bonus for beeing a vampire (which I wasn't), I'm pretty sure you can affect everything except for dragons.
Of course automatons and undead are a no-go till you get the Master of the Mind perk... and even then you need to use dual-casting far more against them, as they are neither humanoids nor animals. Good thing there's Invisibility.
And bows.

Yes, but they are VERY few. Dragons are never affected by your illusion spells as far as I know (at least I never managed to calm a dragon on any difficulty). Depending on your level, illusion spells sometimes work on dragon priests, but most of the time they won't work on them. Everyone else is pretty much vulnerable to your illusion spells, if you leveled up your Illusion skill and took the right perks.

So THAT'S why all of the sudden it takes so f*cking long to level up my smithing! God damn you Bethesda for nerfing smithing!

Why not just have a lower cap when wearing light armor? And why even let players surpass the armor cap by extreme amounts when it means absolutely nothing? Sorry but as much as I like Skyrim, you shouldn't design game mechanics for that one case where the players don't try to get the best out of their equipment.
It doesn't matter anyway, I've learned that I have to ignore my usual instincts to try to design a good character build and get the best equipment if I don't want Skyrim to be ridiculously easy. It's not ideal, but it hardly ruined the game for me.

Yes, both things I agree with. Still the game balance seems much improved compared with earlier ES game installments.

Though it's still pretty easy if you go for illusion and Stealth.

Personally, I have 800+ hrs, and am guessing that some of those here that installed on 11-11-11 may this or more, as I have been taking a break since March to play SWTOR.
But then, I am no longer working, and am homebound; my excuse, and sticking to it!

I was on the Bethesda forums and posted in a thread about problems I was having. An administrator sent me a personal message apologizing and wanted to see my game files. They were gonna mail me a USB device but I told them I hadn't got any patches yet...so its probably that.

I told the guy I'm shocked a world like this can even exist, and I understand some technical issues because of that.
I can't wait to learn more about Dawnguard. Any new info at all about it? I will pay whatever the cost up to $40.

LP Prince...what build did you do for your character? How did it feel walking out into the wide open for the first time when you started?
I had to get used to the controls at first, since it was my first time playing a TES game. Still, I thoroughly enjoyed the beginning.
Loved being able to go anywhere. As I've said a million times already(and a million more on the way) it reminded me of the times my father and I hiked up mountains, across creeks, through forests, all off trails. We got hurt, we got lost, but goddamn it was fun and totally worth it.
As far as build goes, I went with Heavy Armor, Stealth, Sword and Shield, and Archery as focuses.
Now my character is Level 81 with 100 levels in absolutely everything(thank you Oghma Infinitium).
My character is a total ass, since I got every achievement for the game on just him. Total chaos, he is. Good, Bad, Light, Dark, he's everything and nothing all at the same time.
The Daedric Lords are gonna have their own war over who gets to keep him. Hah.

First a bear attacks me, killing the horse I stole...borrowed.
Then two necromancers seeking revenge for the Black Star quest.
Then an imperial legion hit squad
Then a frost dragon.
Then two cultists from the Peryite quest line.
Then another bear
Then I walked into THIEF right after I killed an ancient dragon.
I did scream WHO ELSE WANTS SOME!!!! in a angered rage.
Cant a man walk from Whiterun to Rorikstead these days?
Bloody hell

True. The previous games had counterintuitive gameplay mechanics where power-gamers would deliberately hold off on leveling up until they knew they'd have the right multipliers. To do that, you'd have to pick skills you weren't going to use as primary skills.
So I remain positive about the changes in Skyrim.
I agree. Though I though about it a bit, and I think it would be surprisingly easy to fix most balance issues in Skyrim.
Just put hard caps on all skills - either at 100% or at 200% for those that have 5/5 amplyfying perks.
Then it's possible to use enchanted equipment and/or use pots to fortify skills without maxing them and investing (as many) perks, but there is a limit how much stuff can be smithed, how much armor you can have and how much damage you can deal.
And then it would be a game with great mechanics.
