60 bucks, 5 dollars an hour= 12 hours.

60 bucks, 25 cents an hour= 240 hours.

60 bucks, 20 cents an hour=300 hours.

Depends on how far-reaching this is - all of Skyrim, or a small portion. I'm curious how they will react to a vampire protagonist, or even a werewolf protagonist, as I have both. The DLC looks interesting, and a vampire wanting to block the sun makes sense since it weakens them.

I kinda agree with Addai67.  I would have preferred a DLC that further delves into the plotlines that already exist in the game.  But that being said, I'm not gonna turn this one down.  The story's premise from what I gather from the trailer seems decent, and the implimentation of Crossbows(!) and all the other gameplay additions the trailer shows are enough  to warrant  a blind, day 1 purchase from me.  No question.

As for the $20 price tag.  Bah.    For anything Skyrim-related that means nothing.  I paid $60 for Skyrim and If I knew then what I know now, I'd have gleefully  paid 10x that much for it.

Hell I have 300 HOURS overall.
For the 60 bucks I payed that is around 5 dollars an hour,

That's around 20 cents an hour.

In my case, if I add up the time I've spent in the Creation Kit (which is very fun in itself), together with my total playing time for Skyrim I have already derived well over 1000 hours of entertainment, although I bought the CE which was a little more expensive.

From what I gather, it seems that Dawnguard will add new features that carry over into the vanilla areas as well, like new factions, new vampire mechanics, etc., so I think it will greatly enhance the replay value and overall entertainment value.

Well I had a "Derp" moment just now.

I forgot where vampires came from till I got this link:
http://uesp.net/wiki..._ta_Mezzamortie

So Molag Bal raped someone to spite Arkay and gave birth to vampires just to prove who REALLY owns the realm of death/souls?

Hopefully we can crush his servants and give him the old one finger salute.

Molag Bal ist the biggest douche bag in the history of Tamriel. He isn't called the King of Rape for nothing

It would be an important reason for a vampire character to join them. My Khajiti wouldn´t mind not to be boiled every time she steps outside during the day. And I wouldn't mind either, because that message annoys me.:P
It would definitely make vampires even more powerful.

That message and sound can get grating - I heard it when my Tribunal mage returned to Blackreach. Blackreach - under the earth of Skyrim, and still the sunlight gets my character. The necromage perk balances things out (in my opinion) as the character is "undead." I do like that it seems like we have a choice in who to side with - perhaps that opens up very different stories and quests for each faction.

I'm curious to see if these vampire lords will accept another vampire in kinship, or if they will be hostile to or suspicious of a vampire from another clan (as they seem to be quite different than the vampires we have met so far, more like the Volkihar of legend if the dragon is breaking through the ice to attack one of them).

If your protagonist gets the same eyes as that vampire lord, I wonder if that will make it more obvious that the character is a vampire. I'm guessing the Dawnguard will know, as trained vampire hunters.

I suppose your eyes will changes if you become that vampire lord creature (looked pretty ugly though xD), although your appearance already is affected when you become a vampire in the current game. The blue eyes of my khajiti turned orange/red and she got a pair of fangs as well. The changes in appearance are obvious enough for NPC's to comment on it, but still they only recognize you as a vampire when you reach stage 4. I doubt the regular commoners will immediately recognize you when you become the new type of vampire.
Might be different for the Danwguard indeed, although the Vigilantees of Stendarr are also supposed to be vampire/werewolf/daedra hunters, and they also don't become hostile as long as you're not in stage 4.

I expect the vampire lords will sooner accept and trust another vampire, because it is more likely they would share the same cause. It would be far less likely that a regular human/khajiti/argonian/whatever wants to join them to block out the sun.

I read about the benefits of the necromage perk, but I have yet to level my restoration. I currently only use illusion spells, but I guess I will have to boost restoration just so that I can get that perk.Khajiti is more an assassin than a mage (I do use muffle and calm, which is incredibly powerful I found out).

Everyone comments on how pale my Dunmer is, but only Alva recognized him as a vampire prior to stage four. The changes for a Khajiit sound a little more obvious than a pale Dunmer with different colored eyes, but I suppose some might write it off as though you were mix, via Karliah.

That always seemed odd to me. I would have thought they would have found ways of discerning werewolves and vampires. They don't react even when your protagonist summons a daedra, or is wielding a Daedric artifact.

I found it beneficial. I wonder if the perk will affect vampire lord status.

More obvious? Why, who would possibly think she is a vampire:whistle::
http://desmond.image...jpg&res=landing

Granted, she is usually wearing her Dark Brotherhood cowl (nice roleplaying touch, haha). So a bit less obvious then:

Unfortunately there is some clipping through the cowl because vampirism also changes something about facial features.

I suspect it will. Vampire lords are probably just as undead as regular vampires.

That makes sense.

I wonder what role Molag Bal plays in the belief of these Vampire Lords (and if it's similar to the Order in Cyrodiil). I thought Bal going to Vaermina to get the cure (in Morrowind) suggested that Vaermina could be responsible for vampires, but perhaps I'm wrong. I know Molag Bal is credited because of the legend (from Opusculus Lamae Bal ta Mezzamortie) but I figured it could be no different than the story about the "first" humans in Tamriel not being accurate (via "Frontier, Conquest"), even though it's widely accepted as truth (especially by most Nords).

Obvious? Only a little. :P The cowl is a nice RP touch - white DB armor? Never seen that mod before. It's too bad the cowl can't hide stage four vampirism.

Well, the rest of the Dark Brotherhood is actually still wearing a dark version of this armor. I didn't like the idea of having them all in white, but I wanted my white, snow leopard-like khajiti in white armor. The armor mod now also adds a whole tower with a store, and I stole the white armor version there. :innocent: And in a land with as much snow as Skyrim, I figured it would still fit the sneaking idea. The White Death will become a legend of Skyrim.

I hope there will be some dialog changes with the Vampires if you are a vampire yourself or a werewolf. Though it would also be cool if there were dialogs for if you have been a vampire but got cured. Would be a nice way to build trust with them.

Sounds interesting. Surprised someone would be selling Brotherhood armor. Is the tower from the mod tied into the Brotherhood? I did the DB with my werewolf; still enjoy Arnbjorn calling me "Moon-born" and the different remarks the guards give to you. "Psss... I know who you are. Hail Sithis!" And those children at the orphanage were pretty happy, too. I guess they will fondly remember the White Death.;)

I do wonder what Delphine, Esbern, or the Greybeards would say if the writers wrote them reacting to the Dark Brotherhood armor.

I would hope that would be the case. My Dunmer assassin is a werewolf, and my Tribunal mage is a Volkihar vampire. I would enjoy seeing different reactions from the Vampire Lords, although I will probably have my werewolf work against them hole my Volkihar works with them. I've enjoyed the different roads Skyrim provides in handling certain situations differently, and I think the different forks in the road between the Dawnguard and the Vampire Lords might yield some varied gameplay and choices. I hope the groups avoid a white and black scenario like the Stormcloaks and the Legion did; even though the vampires want to block out the sun (likely because of how the sun weakens them), I would prefer it if they were fleshed out characters.

Hopefully they avoid DA2 grey...as in both sides are nuttier then squirrel turds.

Maybe its just a power they want to blanket an area at a time or something.
Like give us slaves or we will blot out the sun over your city.

Could be useful thing to have really could wipe out crops, or surprise attack a city with it.
Or maybe he just wants to blanket an area over the land he owns so he can walk around at any time.

Anyone think they released that gamejam video just to test the waters and see what people wanted/really wanted for Skyrim?

It's not tied to the Dark Brotherhood questline I believe, but according to the lore behind it, it is inhabited by a splinter faction of the Dark Brotherhood. You automatically receive a miscalleneous objective to locate the tower. Then you can simply enter it and craft or buy armor, weapons and accessories.:)

I did not like the approach in Dragon Age 2. They made both sides out to be caricatures. I prefer the Skyrim approach - Tullis and Ulfric are flawed leaders leading imperfect groups, but neither leader loses their sanity or their dignity even if they become an antagonist. Even the Blades and the Greybeards are opposed in many ways, without vilifying either side. I hope to see that approach in Dawnguard - even if the vampires are concerned only in their self-interests, I don't want to see them depicted as one-dimensional villains who simply do things for the lulz. I want some depth from them.

Perhaps they did test out the waters.

The blades were just stupid.

"Here let me take something from a tomb them make you prove yourself WHILE I THREATEN YOU!"
"Hey how about you storm an embassy and risk your life for me just for some really not helpful stuff!"
"How about you go into the rankest pit of any city in the game and find some dude in the sewers!"
"For your next task risk life and limb assaulting a forsworn camp, to liberate an old fort!"
"Recruit some new members for us!"
"lets reform into a group following your orders THEN GIVE YOU ORDERS!"
"KILL THAT DRAGON THAT IS HELPING YOU AND HELPED US THOUSANDS OF YEARS AGO OR GTFO!"

They have zero gratitude and no respect.

Where as the Greybeards just ask to see you and only have you shout ONCE to really prove yourself. Literally the only thing you get is Dragonrend.

Not really needed unless they made Alduin the only dragon who needed it to be used on.

Good luck I guess getting supplies all the way in the middle of Forsworn territory.

The Greybears also teach Clear Skies, and will aid you in locating other Shouts.

But yeah; the Blades were awful, though I will always be greateful for Max von Sydow as VO. Him and Christopher Plummer are pure win as mentors!

The Greybeards pretty much call out the Blades during Season Unending, if you tell Arngeir about what Esbern and Delphine demanded of you. They pretty much point out that Paarthurnax lives because you have chosen a different path (as Arngeir says - the wisdom of Kynareth), and it's clear Delphine really hates them. While I see why some view it as stupid, Paarthurnax admits it's wise not to trust a dovah, and that they don't personally know him like the protagonist does.

I was surprised to see that Ulfric apparently knew Delphine; I guess their shared hatred of the Thalmor had them cross paths before.

If the vampires are worshiping/working for Molag Bal I wonder if they will recognize his mace/you failing the quest?

All I know is that I hope they have dialouge for how powerful you are at that point so no one screams HOW IS HE/SHE DOING THIS!?!?!

Because how did you not here about a renowed Dragon slayer, a war hero, leader of multiple guilds, Thane like 9 times over, oh and the guy who beat a demi god to death in Nord heaven.

I mean its just insulting that people forget that.
I wanted to strangle that a hole in Falkreath for saying he needed a drink.

I am a DRAGON SLAYER not a delivery boy. JERK.

Good question. They should recognize the Vampire's Mace / Mace of Molag Bal. It seems like they worship Molag Bal, like the Order in Cyrodiil. I wonder if Molag Bal is responsible for this clan's improved powers and abilities.

I tend to do those quests early on to avoid that feeling. It feels like they are supposed to be done early. In contrast, SI had the crazy people ask for quests and acknowledge your Demi-God status as Sheogorath, while the Nerevarine had Helseth try to repeatedly kill him because if his status.
