garbage controls, simplified UI, no mods

I would agree but the UI is obviously meant for a console.

I'm sure he uses SkyUI mod. It's pretty much a must have for PC.

It's still all one big list after another sure it's better but I'd like to see a return of grid based inventory until I'll stick with a gamepad.

SKY UI is still list-based. I am so sick of console UI's on PC.

That was my guess.  PC got the Creation Kit, Xbox got the exclusive.  PS3... sorry, someone stole your sweetroll.

I think Yrkoon was joking about that.

I think that's just what happened, actually.  Somewhere the spouse heard that Bioware was being constrained by a stipulation from the consoles that they wouldn't release content for one platform that wasn't available to all.  Lo and behold no toolkit.

I don't get why everyone thinks SkyUI is so incredible.  Like slimgrin said, it's still all lists and doesn't look any better.  I use Categorized Favorites and call it a day.

Ugh.... I've been searching for an hour but I can't find it any more.

There was an article I read  a couple of months back  where a bethesda developer was talking about the release of the Creation Kit, and he mentioned something to the effect that it wasn't the easiest thing in the world to release because it contains a lot of proprietary Software that Bethesda does not own the copyrights to  -    So in order to release these mod tools they had to acquire those rights from Microsoft, which wasn't cheap.  The  Microsoft xbox 360  DLC exclusivity  deal  may have been a part of that trade.

Edit: which is fine with me.  Really.  if given a choice between  getting  a tool kit  so I can make  or  play an Unlimited amount of mods, forever  vs. getting to play Dawnguard  a month early,  I'll take the former.

Have to agree with you, I prefer the vanilla UI. I just load up the Favorites list with spells or weapons I use frequently. Plus I think SkyUI requires ScriptDragon or SKSE, which can be a pain as it stops working every time the game updates with a new patch.

In any case, just read an interesting new Dawnguard article [WARNING Dawnguard Quest Spoilers]

FINALLY!

I found someone in a dungeon who was not a completely suicidal moron!
Selveni Nethri in Southfringe Sanctum.

Thank you for not attacking me, running right into a trap, or proving how bad the average IQ is in Skyrim.

Also I can wait another 30 days I guess, since you know I can take solace in having mods, and the console to use when issues arise.

Is she the one you have to escort to the exit, after killing all the spiders and miscellaneous other stuff?

She followed me, but stopped just short of the exit, more than once, so I finally had to FUS-RO-DAH her out. Image IPB

My favorite temporary follower is Anska, in High Gate Ruins. If she could be a permanent follower, I'd recruit her in a minute.

The follower I enjoyed was Esbern, when departing the Ratway. Would follow at a distance, take commands and follow them, and was effective in the fights. Terrific!

Then he became corrupted like the rest; solo play for me.

You should induct her into the Blades.

I'm still too much of a chicken to play solo, at least, in the early parts of the game. I mean, I could do Bleak Falls Barrow with my eyes shut, and fairly easily on my own, but some of the others? Wow, props to you guys who play by yourselves.

I prefer to bring an army. Image IPB

@Sajii - can you do that with temporary followers? I guess I hadn't thought of that. After my first playthrough, though, I swore I'd only help the Blades as far as the main quest required, in subsequent playthroughs. How dare they tell me to kill Paarthurnax.

Thanks for the thought, but I am rather poor at playing mechanics. I simply Save often, and use Stealth on every build; starting while bound and running from Alduin during the opening sequence. Looking for places to conceal yourself, paths of escape, plenty of Plan B's, etc; anyone should be able to solo. IMO.

BTW - Did you note in Dawnguard that vampires will be able to summon gargoyles, and DG's will summon half-ogres or trolls? The ref was it would be like Daedric summons; sounds helpful for those wanting back-up.

I solo on MASTER difficulty. ^_^; It's really not that hard. Skyrim is a really easy game imo.

Now if they included AI to keep followers from shoving you into traps and off cliffs, I finally might get a hunting dog!

^ Definitely. If you could keep them alive, that is. Image IPB

The first time I met Meeko, I didn't even realize he was a potential follower. I stumbled upon his master's shack, and a dragon just happened to attack us right then. After the fight, I went inside the shack, read the journal, and ran outside to find him. He was dead.

I was so upset that in every playthrough since, I've walked up behind the shack, to get it on my map, but I leave quickly. My heart is too soft and squishy to see another pixel dog (or even a horse - similar story with Frost) die. I just avoid them altogether. I do, however, always recruit Shadowmere.

But back to your point, I would use Cicero again, if they would fix the way he "Barbas"es you.

Anska is funny. She's blasting people with spells left and right, but when my PC summons an atronach she scolds her for using dangerous magic. LOL Nords.

I always get a follower quickly now, for one reason- those damn mercenaries that come after you for stealing.

lol - Those boulder brains while scary, often choose the worst places to attack the Dragonborn. Once they chose to attack during a dragon attack in Rorikstead, and the volunteers would kill them before I could; creating the need for reloads. Never mess with a man's dog, or a farmer's garden, I guess.....

You know I wonder if we can bring followers into the DLC?

Like we could not do in Fallout New Vegas.
Made them kind of fun though.

Because with Boone with you, who can stand against you?
Seriously I saw him kill more mooks in the final battle then the entire army behind him was.

Uncertain if others may follow, but based on the SPOILER link, one appears to be provided.

Wow such bad luck.

Three imperial soldiers come walking around a bend.
Right into me.

10 seconds later, they are dead, and another prisoner is running free.
Can you just imagine how badly they rolled on their luck chance? That has to be a natural 1.

skyrim is not a game for followers, the mechanics and animations in New Vegas and fallout 3 were much more smoother and allowed for seamless integration wherever you went.

My only problem with followers is that Storm Call fries them (and my moronic horses). Why can't my shouting have IFF?

Oh, and they just love to run into traps.

Vanilla UI made for consoles. At least sky UI can allow you to organize and sort everything

If you want a smart follower, Eola is your best bet IMHO - she tends to hang back and fry enemies with magic, summon Daedra, and raise enemy corpses. Only occasionally does she get into the thick of battle herself, and even then she seems to be pretty smart and resourceful about that.

I've now got three concurrent playthroughs going between Skyrim, FO:NV, and FO3. There is something seriously strange about that. Currently have the following companions in play: Mod Elf companion Miravel and sometimes partner Lydia; badass Boone (always) and ED-E (always); and Dogmeat (and hopefully soon to have super-badass Fawkes).

Splitting my time between hunting Draugr, Forsworn, Falmer and Thalmor; to Fiends, (overpowered) Deathclaws (landmines are your friend - and not even a Mother or Alpha-Male can survive a gauntlet of 12 evenly spaced), Nightstalkers, and a--hole Legionaires; to Talon Company Mercs, Feral Ghouls, Mire Lurks and Super Mutant Brutes and Overlords.

Currently engaging in the finer points of enchanting and maxing out damage on my dual ebony war axes/hammers and which two enchantments, and mix, are really the best for each piece of my armor set; to creating enough weapon repair kits to keep my Hunting Shotgun and revolver fully functional with max DAM/DPS and reloading enough.50 cal MG ammo to keep Boone stocked (since he goes through it like pooh through a goose); to finding enough Nuka-Cola Quantum to make an arsenal of Nuka-Genades (my favorite weapon in DC) and finding enough .44 Mags with Scopes to repair the one rapidly degrading good one I always carry.

Yes, it's a crazy, insane and very mixed-up (but thoroughly enjoyable) world that's beginning to blend together night after night.

I suppose what this all really tells me is that I'm ready for Dawnguard.
