IIRC, the rage about that particular phrase came as a result of Dr. Muzyka's response to the fan reaction regarding Mass Effect 3's ending. He uses the words "artistic integrity" or something similar (art form, artistic choice, artists, etc) 5-6 times. So, it was something he wanted to put out there.

Unfortunately, such things can backfire. In this case, badly.

RE: Skyrim. Tried it out again with a new character and a truckful of mods including one that allowed me to start as a member of the Thalmor. So, Thalmor Spy gogogo.

Exactly. Companies like these are rare these days. As of lately I've only seen 2 companies being this awesome: Bethesda and CD Projekt RED (creators of The Witcher and The Witcher 2).

As far as I know, they are the only two companies left who truly seem to care about their loyal fans. They threat us, the fans, as adult and mature people. And no arrogant "artistic integrity" ****, but true humbleness and honesty towards their fans. And that is how you keep fans loyal. Take notes BioWare, as you guys seems to have a problem to keep your fans loyal these days.

If you were adult and mature, perhaps....

Pot, kettle, black. Go figure.

Elhanan wrote...

Who coined the 'artistic integrity' phrase flying around currently? Wasn't it someone outside of EA that opposed Bioware's plan to alter the Ending of ME3?

BioWare themselves used "artistic integrity" as an excuse themselves to justify their poor plot of ME3, more than once actually.

Elhanan wrote...

Doesn't matter; folks will find something else to complain over soon enough.

Oh I'm not comlaining, I'm merely stating the fact that Bethesda and CDPR manage to keep respect from their fanbase, while BioWare lost almost all respect from their fanbase. Why - o - why would that be?

That's awesome!

I'm currently playing a Conan The Barbarian -type of character. He's shirtless (fur armor) and uses a steel 2handed sword. I'm playing on Master. It's hard, but doable. I just keep my fur armor upgraded with smithing and I make sure my light armor skill is as high as possible so I still have some protection.

Think I got it now. Bioware execs used the term, then I believe it may have been IGN coming back saying that alterations would damage it. I left the ME3 forums for the most part when I thought this had been settled with the Extended Cut DLC which will offer a more in depth conclusion.

Guess that did not please everyone, and some folks continued to complain.

No; you are berating Bioware, but for what? Not caving to the so-called fans asking for different endings? Giving more detailed explanations in a free DLC? And if Bioware has lost your respect, so be it; does not reflect "their fanbase".

So the question is not really Why, but What;  and of course, Who do you think you are?

Ah poor poor Elhanan.
So like a man watching the Titanic going down and screaming at people saying "GET BACK ITS UNSINKABLE!"

Rather funny to watch really.

Well, to be fair, a lot of old timey TES fans were disappointed with Skyrim to various degrees.  Honestly, I can see their point.  I myself was disappointed in some of the guild quest lines and in how little difference there is between the Stormcloak and imperial quest lines.  And coming back to the game after my hiatus, with the shine off, I'm more annoyed at the hand-holding.  Some of this I believe is game design necessitated by having an open world that's highly voice acted and graphically more challenging than past games.  Some of it is design I think they could lose, e.g. making NPCs essential and just generally having too few consequences to decisions.

All in all, though, I do get an entirely different vibe from Bioware marketing than from Beth and CDPR.  I'd add Obsidian and Valve to the list of good ones, too.

What was your M/H/S distribution? I'm currently investing everything in health and a bit in stamina. I have to, if I don't want to die all the time. Right now I have 100 in magica, 200 in health and 150 in stamina. I think I'll continue distributing 0/2/1 until my health reaches 300, after that I'll throw everything into stamina. I think I'll eventually end up with 100/300/400. Does that seem like a good idea for a light-armored Barbarian with a 2-handed weapon?

I love using the Wabbajack trick for levelling your companions back up.
I gave Lydia Chillrend and holy crap she hits so fast she keeps paralyzing people with it.

Its rather odd in fiction to have a love interest who can massacre people just as well as the main character. Now if only I could stop her from running into every fight ala LEROY JENKINS!

When I played a Nord 2-handed barbarian on Master difficulty a couple months ago, I put 100% of my points into Stamina, no Health. (Also no armor perks, no sneaking, no picking locks, no cowardly magic spells or ranged weapons, and no lollygagging.)

I had fun just running right up to enemies. Stamina is better than health because you need it to bash and interrupt enemy spell casters or archers.

Bleak Falls Barrow was really hard, because i had no ranged attacks and no follower, but it got a bit easier after that.

The mark of a good game is the ability to live with its faults.  All games, even the best ones, have very annoying "features," plot holes, substandard writing at parts, balance issues, etc., and Skyrim has enough of these to write a book.  Let's not kid ourselves here.  It is because we focus on what the game does well or some unusual feature that makes a game successful.

I care less about how a company markets their products than the design decisions which go into making those products.  Had Bioware not made the highly questionable decision to remove elements of DA:O which fans liked,
this wouldn't nearly be as annoying.

Thing is, I did not mind all the changes, and some others agree. The Talent and Spell tiers of DA2 were seemingly improved, and while more Skills would have been appealing, having them integrated into the abilities was done rather well.

I also enjoyed the story and writing; much preferred over some other games; Skyrim included.

But I do agree that a good game can survive it's flaws. DA2 was such a game to me, and so is Skyrim. I look forward to the follower fixes seen in that DICE vid, as that would aid companions a lot.

What kind of armor did you use? Fur armor? That's what I'm using. I figured that the fact that I'm unprotected really is the hardest part playing as a Berserker/Barbarian. I have to fully use block, bash and power-attacks to stand a chance against the enemies. I did Shimmerish Cave yesterday (first real Companions quest) and it was hard. Most Falmer could OHKO me. The Chaurus were a pain in the ass. But eventually I managed to do it with plenty of healing potions and plenty of toxic-resistance potions.

My character is a male Nord Barbarian based on Conan, in 100% FUR ARMOR (the topless version), a 2-handed steel sword, absolutely NOT USING MAGIC AT ALL.

Edit: I really wish there were some horned light-armor viking helmets in Skyrim. I really hate it that there are no awesome light-armor helmets in Skyrim. All the awesome helmets are all heavy armor. :pinched:

I don't care, because Conan the Barbarian did wear a horned helmet (not always, but sometimes he did). I couldn't care less what real vikings wore. I don't want my character to be "real", I want him to be bad-ass. I want him to look like Conan. So far he looks quite a lot like Conan, but a helmet like this would really be the finishing touch:

Image IPB

Anyway, I wish there were more awesome viking-like light armor helmets. I find my choice for light armor helmets really limited. Most of the helmets look very similar and very stupid.

The problem Bioware has is where you and some others see "changes" that you do not mind, more of the hiterto satisfied customers dislike the removal of elements which they do mind.  That is why "when you press a button, something awesome has to happen" has become a joke.

I did not care for all the changes either; missed Kill Scenes a lot, as well as being able to upload new BSN portraits. And I pref DAO as a game.

But overall I was pleased, and was challenged in gameplay without having to use NM I am willing to overlook what some others see as flaws, and am now a fan of full VO, though I would like more exact phrasing in choices.

Now, as far as Skyrim goes, I look forward to see what comes next in DLC and future products. While I have no interest in looking backwards, the standard set here in TES V is high; wonder if they can improve on it.

Yes, I started out using the shirtless fur armor, then around level 20 or so, I switched to the stormcloak fur armor, and then when I went to Sovngaarde I used steel plate.

When I returned from Sovngaarde, I was level 27 and it felt like the character was way too powerful. I guess I could have done some radiant story quests or tried to collect more shouts or daedric artifacts, but it felt rather strange to continue playing after the MQ was finished, so I retired the barbarian and started a different character.

As for the heavy armor helmets, just use whatever looks good. I often mixed up heavy and light armor. Didn't really matter since I never got any armor perks.
