If my character is generally a goody two shoes, is there a downside to doing dark brotherhood quests?

All of my characters are goody two shoes, and they all are in the Dark Brotherhood. Why? Once you get Shadowmere, you'll understand. Image IPB

Of course, all of my characters join all guilds, so I'm probably the wrong one to answer this.

I suppose in my case, I enjoy a little bit more having different characters dedicated to each guild, joining only one or two factions. As a result, the faction questline becomes central to the character's background and the entire playthrough. Also I've been able to save a lot of great content for future playthroughs, despite having already played over 600 hours.

Much to your disappointment, daiz, I think I like greatswords better than battleaxes and warhammers - I whoop far more ass, far more easily with my two-handed sword - I guess it's the slightly faster swinging time on it. I cut down three Legionnaires within seconds at a mere level 2 (with a sword + shield I usually get my ass kicked by them at that level), faster and easier than I had with an axe or hammer.

Two-handed swords are the way to go - though I think I still might use one-handed weaps for uber stealth kills. Guess I'll be training both skills, then.

Ysgramor you're not, eh? Well, it was worth a shot. Not everyone can kick arse with battleaxes, after all. Image IPB

I've switched weapons, in different playthroughs, based on which weapons I think that specific character would enjoy using. My first Breton strictly used maces, for crying in the sink. (There was something satisfying about "thud"ing enemies, I guess). My Nord used Warhammers. My Khajiit dual wields 1-handed swords. Everyone uses a bow.

Does it make sense? Probably not, but I like to whoop it up from time to time.

I will probably still cycle between different types of two-handed weapons as they come along - I wanna give Wuuthrad and Volendrung a spin when I get those, and maybe the Longhammer when I get that. The game has no shortage of excellent weaponry to try out, and Dawnguard is gonna add even more (I read Auriel's Bow will be in it somewhere - looking forward to that as they didn't have it in Oblivion).

I hope they'll add Umbra to the game at some point in the future - that was one of my favorite weapons in Morrowind, and I'd love to see a Skyrim rendition of it. Hopefully it would be better than it was in Oblivion.

The Mace of Molag Ball is pretty fun, too, despite it being a 1-hander.

In my first Orc playthrough, I gave Volendrung to my follower, Ghorbash the Iron Hand, and my Orc used MoMB, for a time. Eventually, they married, and Ghorbash got left at home, while Orbugob went out adventuring with Borgakh the Steel Heart. It was an Orc party, to be sure.

OK, got off course there. Wuuthrad is great for elves, and there are no shortage of Altmer to bludgeon, that's for sure.

I keep hoping that we'll see a bit more effective version of Dawnfang/Duskfang.

Volendrung is amazingly powerful if you get the 2H perks that ignore enemy armor for warhammers.

I didn't join the DB in Oblivion, because I was so worried about being a "bad" character. What a waste that proved to be.

Being bad, is fun!

Get Elemental Fury shout. Seriously, turned my battle axe wielding orc from a sluggish lazy fighter to a whirling wreaking ball. But for a two-handed weapon user the weapon speed eventually becomes pretty moot anyway. All I ever did was charging and swinging power attacks later on. And if everything dies in 1-2 swings, weapon speed doesn't really matter, does it?

A legendary bow? Hell yeah.

And I'm sad to say but Umbra was destoyed in a spin off book.

You know I am really pissed off right now.

Apparently to some people 20 dollars is FAR to much to ask for a DLC. I was talking to one of my friends and he kept going on and ON about how Bethesda only is doing this because they know their fans are stupid.

Not surprisingly I saw this repeated on the Escapist as well.

Really?
20 dollars for a 20 hour DLC?
When most games charge 5-10 dollars for a couple of hours DLC.

Lets do some quick math here:
Dawnguard 20 dollars for 20 hours (MQ ALONE)
FROM ASHES 10 dollars for 1-2 hours.

I am sorry but I have always been happy with Bethesda's DLCs and while 20 bucks is a bit of money I will save some money and get it quite happily.
Rant over I think I will go back to getting my main to level 60.

Finally advancing more in the main quest. Who knew a dragon could actually smile? Or, grin. That's more accurate I guess.

A shame spells are not possible in horse combat yet. That means my Breton, who wields a bound sword, still can't fight on her horse.

I suppose the way I see it is, a typical playthrough of Skyrim lasts around 100-200 hours for most of us.With two interesting new factions and changes to the gameplay for the rest of the world, it's going to be an incentive for me to go back and play at least two new complete playthroughs as a Volkihar and then a Dawnguard member. When you figure in all the additional quests, etc., that is perhaps around 300-500 hours of total entertainment. Maybe even a third playthrough as a werewolf.

It's not quite like a typical DLC for a more linear game, where, say you install it and then a message pops up saying "Congratulations, you just bought Dawnguard!" and you go and do a mission that lasts a few hours and you're done.

you kill a bride on her wedding day, with the goal of the marriage to politically unify skyrim and possibly bring an end to the civil war that has killed thousands

for moneys

that is just morally disheartening

That is just awesome, is what it is.

And hey, don't forget about killing the greatest and most famous chef in all of Tamriel, or the part where you assassinate the Emperor and, assuming you also side with the Stormcloaks, effectively destroy the Empire.

All for the lulz, of course - screw the money.

This is a noob question but how do you remap keys in Skyrim? I did it before and now for some reason my remapping has been scrambled. Makes life interesting.    But I looked in all the menus and can't find where I changed stuff.

Yes, 1.6 does that. I had to reset mine as well when I started the 1.6 beta.

You can do it in the .ini files, but it's more simple to do it in the menu in-game.

LOL. There's an... illustration clarifying the true nature of the RE6 logo, but I dare not post it here. Suffice it to say, IT CANNOT BE UNSEEN.
