When they go down on one knee, they become invincible to damage from anyone except the player.

No, they don't sadly. If say a follower is downed by a dragon an area effect attack will finish them off.

You know some of the mercenaries you meet in taverns and stuff, like that mage in Riften? If they die will somebody ever take their place? Because after trying some difficulty raising mods, the life expectancy of my followers isn't that good. Although it may have been my own storm call shout that fried him.

Yep, followers can only die from friendly fire. (Unless you have a mod that makes them mortal.)

It was a sad day when I learned this, as I had already lost quite a few followers.

One of the main reasons for which I don't use followers. Seems they manage to get in front of a bow shot right when I release the arrow and usually that will kill them right off. Especially if I'm in sneak mode.

You know I hear a lot of you talk about sneak-thief builds, etc. I...I...just can't do it for an entire playthrough. Don't get me wrong, I go through periods where I do a little thievery and I enchant the hell out of a few pieces of equipment and sneak...like...and den of vampires, one shotting them with a bow, but I just don't think I could do it as a primary character method. The urge hits me too often that I absolutely must shield bash someone and brawl. What is that about, really?

I guess that's why my second sneak character is a sword and board user. That and the fact that the Thieves Guild questline has the best unique swords... and Nightingale Gloves give a bonus to one-handed (which doesn't effect daggers). So I sneak around with a sword and board. As I usually wear only one piece of Fortify Sneak equipment, don't have all the sneak perks yet and swords do way more noise then daggers, I get detected fairly often and then it's blocking & bashing time. Makes for a fun playtrough. Especially that I actually use the equipment I earn in the questline.

Only thing to note is that Smithing seems like a must for Nightingale Armor (or any Light Armor, really). You need to be at the cap or near it on Master to survive (unless you're never deteceted)....

I think I will start learning sword and shield as well.

It just has WAY to many advantages over dual wielding right now.
I mean you can block, stagger, and resist magic.

All of which dual wielding DOES NOT allow you to do.

Well now will have to admit that I've not tried Sword and shield either always been one for which Dual wielded or sneak attacked with a dagger. Going to do a new run through again once the DLC is released and might use a sword and shield.

I decided to make a little contribution to the Heimskr fund to rebuild the Talos temple in Whiterun.  This is just seed money.

Ironically, a Stormcloak guard tried to fine me and then solicited a bribe for dropping weapons.  He's lucky he didn't end up wabbajacked into a chicken.

It's Cloaks of Skyrim.  They clip a little but look really nice otherwise.  It adds them to NPCs in the world, too, and they're craftable and enchantable.

That looks cool actually.

Its amazing what all the mods are doing to my game, like diversified guards.
After a while you get an amazingly different mod.

Agreed, I love the mods that change the world so subtly I forgot where the changes come from. One I can recommend on the Steam Workshop is called Radiance. It adds little encounters on the road, puts some added liveliness in the world without making dramatic changes like some of the other encounter mods.

Has anyone tried the Dark Brotherhoos Mage Robes? How do they look (there are no pics in the wikis)?

I'm thinking of leveling a new character just for Dawnguard. My idea was an Assassin-Mage (haven't done Dark Brotherhood yet, and Mage Guild's questline was my favorite) But I won't spend perks into Light Armor, because in my opinion you level too fast in the wrong skills if you get hit a lot. So I'm gonna take this perk.

Problem will be how much perks I will spend on the new vampire ones.

You know I almost feel bad, I am going to use Mjoll for the Boethiah quest line.

Riften will be left in the hands of Maven, and mostly my Khajiit.
Without her to speak out then things can be much smoother.

My Khajiit has been doing this in most cities, finding what could be a problem for his power grabs and removing them or subverting them. Hell half the people in some cities are either friendly or owe him something.

Poor poor Ulfric wont have much chance when my imperial "friendly" Khajiit goes to town on him.
I will leave that dude alone in the DB quest...always good to have a friend in high places.

Maybe marry Ysolda and ...remove the owner of the Bannered Mare.
Oh lordy it is fun to play a magnificent bastard hell bent on power.

Hell I will even side with the Blades over the Greybeards this time.
After planting people loyal to him in their ranks first....

Also I dont hold any illusions that my Khajiit is anything less than an utter bastard.

Archery is awesome in Skyrim.  I really, really like it and I primarily melee and shield bash my way through Skyrim.  Run your score on up to 60 (hunt alot of animals) so you can take the second perk on Steady Hand.  Max out over draw if you can.  You'll never miss and you'll one-shot alot of your targets with a properly improved bow.

I played my first playthrough on 360 and had no problems with the Shout achievement.

Yes, I have this mod and also highly recommend it. I understand the author has plans to continue adding new radiant quests and encounters.

The robes look pretty cool, have a red hand on the chest. That's what Festus and Gabriella are wearing. Makes you wonder how come the guards and townsfolk aren't immediately alerted when they see you....
Here's a pic: elderscrolls.wikia.com/wiki/Shrouded_Robes

But the bonus on the main robes is rather poor. Fortify Destruction 15? When IMVHO Destruction doesn't even work very well for assasinations and is hugely inferior to a bow (possibly Bound)? I'd much rather wear the Archmage Robes or any of the reular robes, especially at Master level (like Master Robes of Illusion for an Assasin).

And why should you get hit much if you play an assasin? You should be hit very rarely.... as often beign hit means being dead.

The Mage Armor perks are pretty cool and at low to mid levels can even offer better protection then light armor. But at high levels they don't really cut it, at least on Master. Your best protection is either remaining unnoticed or controlling your enemies with Illusions.

In this new Redguard playthrough I'm working on, I went into Windhelm for the third time, at night, and Blood on the Ice triggered, as expected.

I started the investigation, but part of the way through, thought...hmm, maybe I should speak to Wuunferth the Unliving, just to see if there are any dialogue changes. Sure enough, he does offer what he's learned about the murders. He talks about the amulet, his time at the College of Winterhold, etc.

At the point where the quest hints say to talk to Jorleif to basically blame and arrest Wuunferth, I instead talked to Wuunferth again. He predicted when the murderer was going to hit next. I followed his hunch, caught the killer in action, followed him to Hjerim, and justice was served with my trusty battleaxe.

This is one of those times where the quest hints really try to push you in one direction, and unless you know how it's going to go, I'd guess most people put Wuunferth in jail. By avoiding that path, I didn't have to wait for part 2 of Blood on the Ice to trigger.

Kind of the same thing with the Blessings of Nature quest. Danica Pure-Spring basically leads you down the path of cutting up the Eldergleam with Nettlebane (and some spriggans and a couple of people in the sanctuary) to retrieve sap to revive the Gildergreen tree.

I didn't realize until I'd done the quest a couple of times that there was an alternate path - if you take Maurice Jondrelle, you can just take a sapling. Granted, it doesn't seem to allow the Gildergreen to fully blossom, but it seems like a "nicer" choice in the end. In my first or second playthrough, I did try to take Maurice Jondrelle with me, but hadn't found the location yet, and couldn't just fast travel. Sadly, he died pretty quickly outside of Whiterun. I looked back, and he was gone. I found his body later.

Are there other instances where you're pushed in one direction, but there is a better, alternate way to do the quest? I'm curious if you guys know of any.
