I missed out on Daggerfall. I had fallen in love with Arena and was waiting and waiting for them to do another game. But when they finally did, and I went to pick it up, I noticed it required a Pentium 1. My computer was only a 486   or some such.... and I had just graduated from college and couldn't afford to buy a new computer.... And by the time I could, I had forgotten all about Bethesda and their games.

So Daggerfall and me never crossed paths.

Interesting side note/ useless trivia: Inside the Game Box for Arena was a "bethesda coin". Supposedly you could collect them then use them to buy Bethesda stuff. I still have that coin. I wonder if it's worth anything. lol

For Dawnguard, what melee technique are you planning as a non-Vampire? I cannot decide if I want to go with 2H, S&S, or daggers. Perhaps I should use this occasion to utilize some of those Daedric devices left on the shelves.

Still kickass games and better than Morrowind, Oblivion and Skyrim in many ways. Not to mention those games look amazing for their time.

Yeah, but... Yrkoon is right, if you didn't play those games in the day, they're not fun.  I've tried to play the older stuff and it's just too big a gap to bridge.  Morrowind is I think right on the edge.

My Redguard is joining the Dawnguard, and is using 2-handed (Battleaxe), plus she's a heck of Archer.

I'm getting excited for crossbows! Image IPB

I had thought of using a Redguard with heavy Enchantment (both firsts for me) to utilze the robes and scimitar in the regular game, but never got that one off the planning table. The look is very appealing. My brother and nephew created a sim Dragonborn for the demo, and seemed to enjoy it.

^ You should try it! I, probably like many others, didn't really give Redguards much of a chance, but I absolutely adore this one. I feel like she went from n00b to arse-kicker overnight.

And wait, you don't use Enchantment? You are seriously missing out, and if you're planning a run to utilize it, start it now! Alchemy and Enchanting are awesomeness incarnate.

Thus far, have only really used Smithing. I dabbled at Alchemy and Enchantment a little, but am not a fan of Crafting as a rule. But the Reguard kit looks sweet, so I may give this a try later.

My first character maxed enchanting (along with smithing). All my following characters ignored that skill and I'm having way more fun this way. They are less overpowered and finding loot/getting rewards is actually usefull and rewarding for a change. Sucks when nothing you can find/earn compares with the godly stuff you make yourself.

I actually haven't maxed Enchanting yet, in any of my playthroughs. I have gotten close, but no cigar. I'm not all that concerned with maxing it, but I do use it frequently.

I like enchanting my follower's gear - seems to help them stay on their feet a bit longer. Plus, having both of our helmets enchanted with water breathing makes some cave delving a little less scary.

I wish they'd fix the hotkey issues with dual wielding. I can't even play a dual wielder because it's such a headache. Bethesda is so lazy. I wasn't doing too bad with a 2H assassin so i'll stick with that.

Yeah, it's not a load of fun on mouse and keyboard.  I play on PC, and my solution was...well...to hook up my XBOX 360 controller for dual wielding since it's fully support within the PC game.  I know, many would consider this sacreligious, but it does work in that it distills down dual-wielding combat to two easily accessed controller mechanisms (triggers).  With a One-handed score of 100 and all perks, (I really like to dual wield as a warrior-type character), and in my experience a single power attack pretty much kills most non-blocking enemies on Adept, and many of your foes on Expert (2-4 power moves, they're done either way, even having to break-through a blocking enemy).

Using a controller is a solution, though probably not the best admittedly.  It doesn't cure the lack of parrying or blocking either, but with easy to use power attacks and combo swings you don't really need to block much.  There are two mods that specifically allow dual-wield Parrying/Blocking (mapped to the right mouse button iirc) if you're interested and are absolutely opposed to using a controller (and yeah, you really shouldn't have to use a gamepad if you don't want to, but...like I said in this case, it really does work, and work well).

Anyway, there it is for what its worth and I hope I'm not thrown into the heretical PC user's dungeon for my misdeeds.Image IPB

^ I think that sounds like a happy medium. Image IPB

If we had a PC (that wasn't a laptop - we have 2), that I thought could handle it, I might be tempted to try that. The 360 controller mapping works great with Skyrim, so I can see why you went that route.

I always sacrifice those "starter" companions... either Sven or Freindal

I cast frenzy on Sven while hiding in the inn. He then proceeded to assault Delphine, who along with Orgnar slaughtered Sven. That was after his house was burglarized, his mother was mugged, and Camilla dumped him...so I guess Sven was having a very bad day.

It does solve a multitude of problems since unfortunately the game was designed for it in mind, but I still switch back and forth for some things, and the console (~) is accessible even with the controller hot. If you're a 360 user, I definitely think you should give a whirl on PC. You are going to see a breathtaking difference in game performance, and being able to mod your game so easily now (and I mean easy)...well, you'll be a kid in a candy store and have 30 "make my character beautiful" mods on before you know it.

It's amazing as well, how quickly you can transition between each interface. I can't say enough about the game on PC, and I keep trying to sell my XBOX sisters/brethren on how easy it all is, and that the world of modding your game (what you hear everyone else talking about) is merely a click or two away; and (BONUS!) You Get to use Your CONTROLLER. In game pictures...yeah cool. No more taking photos of your TV!

Do it!

OK, so I can do all that on my 55" tv, then? And you'll buy the PC for me? Well sign me up, I'm there!

Honestly, if I can stay as far away from a PC as possible, that's a bonus for me. I sit in front of a PC 40 hours a week already for work. I used to be PC gamer, and was for years, but started having to be super cautious about my wrists and carpal tunnel. The convenience (of many kinds) won me over for consoles, and I daresay, I just don't give enough of a crap about mods to go back. I really don't.

I realize that I could use a controller, but system requirements and all that stuff really make my head spin.

You do have a compelling argument, though. Image IPB

OK, there is one mod I would want - I believe Addai was talking about it a while back - one that added trees. I would like that a lot. Moar trees!

Funny thing, only at least 10 years after its release Daggerfall really became playable without crashing every 5 minutes. It's the buggiest game I've ever played. Really too ambitious for its time in many ways.

If they don't do some serious racial rebalancing, the ES online game is just going to be populated with cat rogues and orc warriors. The orc frenzy is especially nasty, like having a win button. Bretons are kinda there too with their magical resistance.

Orc frenzy should be inflicting 50% more damage at the cost of taking 50% more damage. Or better, drain your weapon skills by 50%.

Magic resistance has been borked since Oblivion, it used to be separate from elemental resistance.

You forgot Altmer mages with thier extra mana. A lot of the current bonus powers are not very useful.

LOL. Orcs in Morrowind were worse - activating Berserk in that game essentially turned you into a walking, talking slaughterhouse, far more so than in Skyrim. I often played Orcs for that very reason.

Didn't the morrowind orc racial reduce your agility to zero? I remember having huge problems with multiple enemies knocking me down on my feet effectively stunlocking me for the whole fight while I had the racial active. I found the redguard racial overall a much better alternative.

Nothing the... ahem... Soul Trap glitch couldn't fix, my friend - and even without that, I was still able to wipe the floor with most opponents.

Adrenaline Rush was very powerful as well, though.

What I like about the Thieves guild in Skyrim is how it's optional to become the guild master after the questline. On the contrary to what Karliah and Brynjolf said, you won't officially become the guild master until you've completed all the guild assignments from Delvin. In the other fractions it was just:

Tolfdif: Hey, you wanna be Arch-Mage?

Dragonborn: Sure...

Three heavily armored thugs with enchanted weapons show up at Riverview to teach my orc a lesson. At that point my orc had only iron armor and a standard steel greatsword. As the thugs attacked, I hit frenzy and my orc turned into She Hulk...the thugs were decimated in under about five seconds. :D

I wish you could turn the incriminating contract into the town guards and have the person who sent the thugs to murder you arrested.

It's kind of silly that you can be admitted into all the Skyrim guilds. :D

I can't picture the Companions accepting my Dark Brotherhood/Nightingale into their midst but the game allows it so I did it...and the mages too.

Who hired the thugs?

I've only been attacked once on my Nord Warrior.  My thief character has never had any hired thug attacks, oddly enough. I think half the items in her inventory must be stolen, too.
