I actually find smithing/enchanting/alchemy to be kind of a relaxing break from battle. And since my skill trees are not maxed out on this character, I'm still delighting in sniping enemies with poisoned arrows - my poison, that I made - and am ignoring damage from their magic, due in part to enchantments I've added to my armor. I guess it's a sense of pride in creating your own gear.
And you're right - my enchantments are much better than 90% of what I'm finding as random loot right now.

But honestly I mostly take smithing so I can get whatever gear I want when I want.
Not to power game.

I don't know if this is a spoiler or not but does anyone know where to get Auriel's Shield?
You need the Ruby Paragon. Take it to the Paragon Platform and a portal will take you to The Forgotten Vale Forest, and once you get there you have to kill and loot a Falmer there who has Auriel's Shield.

But even more impressive than that is the Soul Cairn - I won't spoil anything, but I'll just say that when you first see it, it will leave you breathless.
(Assuming you get as immersed in these kinds of games as I do - if not, you're a square)

I was looking through my stats last night, and have completed 16 Dawnguard quests, and I'm nowhere close to being done (I have 5-6 active right now). I wonder how many there are! I mean, I'm sure the main quest has a finite number of them, but these side quests seem to just keep going! Not that I mind, of course. I think they're fun. They're also forcing me to go to caves/dungeons I haven't been to yet in this playthrough, which is definitely good.
@green - I was wondering why you were so quiet! The Soul Cairn will leave you awe-struck, that's for sure.

Try this
Damn Microsoft. My PC runs Windows. Why make me wait a month extra. At least I have time to get some characters ready for the DLC.
Thanks

*covers eyes* I'm not to that (Vale) point in Dawnguard, yet!

In case you weren't aware, "Hunting The Monster" is a radiant quest that is infinite. You'll always get another one.

The ones I'm doing mostly are for schematics (or stuff for the priest(s)). So far, they have been super handy. I'm only up to Dwarven level right now, but I'm hoping it keeps working its way up the materials list.
Don't tell me if it does, or doesn't, though - I'd rather find out for myself.

I wont go to the escapist, or a few other sites due to them posting spoilers EVERYWHERE.
Even my youtube feed is getting thick with them.
Damn you MICROSOFT!

I'm stuck. I did The discerning The Transmundane and don't have a new waypoint. I have discovered 'blood in the you know where but i still need to find 'dragon'.

So you've got the Oghma Infinium? If so you should have gotten the 'dragon' too. When you do the light puzzle and light up the lexicon did you pick up the 'dragon' with it?

I only said Dragon and Blood to avoid spoilers
Yeah, i got the Oghma Infinium and used it for magic. I did not get any scroll. I spoke to a vortex and clicked something by accident and something happened.
I got a runed Lexicon from the corpse.

Derp. i apologise to anyone I may have spoiled.
When you pick up the lexicon after the puzzle the scroll should be in the dwarven machine with all the lights. Did you do the puzzle then walk out with the lexicon without looking at the light machine? If you did then if you go back to the Tower of Mzark you should be able to just pick it up.
You may need to put the lexicon back to get the the scroll.
This page is helpful.

I swear i have been to Mzark before, i have done that light thing for a quest. The mages i think. I started from a previous save collecting the blood.
Why do i need to do it again?

That's Mzulft I believe (do you mean the one with Synods, you see a map of magical objects and to get it working you need to heat and freeze it?). Mzark is the tower that links Blackreach to the surface. After you grab the lexicon you can jump down and go up it.

No, it's Mzark. I just went there. And yeah it's the Synod involvement and you do use fire and ice.
Mzulft has been cleared by me for ages.

So the Tower for Mzark was where you did the 'Revealing the Unseen' quest? Because that's not right if it was.

Sorry, my bad. Yeah it was Mzulft.
I don't understand. I just started again, old geezer touched the book and went kaput and now the abyss demon says 'let us work wonders together' then disappeared.
Here is the quest list for 'Discerning The Transmundane':
Ask Urag about the insane book, Find Septimus Signus, Trancribe the Lexicon, Harvest X (spoilers), bring X to Septimus, Take the Oghma Infinium.
Now the quest s completed, no further tasks. No waypoints for the 'Dragon' either. Mzark has been done though and the lights have been completed, i'm going back now just to see if i can place the Runed Lexicon into the pedestal there.

No worries.
If you go back to the Tower of Mzark the 'dragon' should be there. Discerning the transmundane is just a quest you can do after getting the dragon. You don't need to do the harvest part after the lexicon bit to get the 'dragon'.
