How do you do that? Verify game files or is there something else?  *oh, I just saw the option to defragment, I'll try that, and maybe clear out some saves.  *still didn't work, still CTD'ing... gah!!!

So many problems would have been averted if I had known not to install games in the Program Files on a Win 7 PC... *sigh*  That's what borks my Wrye Bash and SKSE, because of the security controls.  I wonder, though, can you install Steam somewhere else rather than in Program Files?  Because it's Steam that wants to put everything there.

I think Nords in general wouldn't accept a non-Nord as jarl. It hasn't happened in history so far as I know.

I believe you can simply install Steam in a different directory if you want, yes.

Well Dawnguard was pretty epic, only thing I didn't like is not being able to marry Serana.. loving the crossbow soooo much right now though

I wanted to marry Serena too, or at least bang her or something. Serena is such a great character. Most characters in Skyrim are shallow and dull with no depth or character development whatsoever, but Serena really is the exception to the rule. I love her (in a non-creepy way).

I don't think those are flaws, those are intentional design elements meant to foster player freedom.  It allows you to just play and roleplay without having to min/max stats as much.

I just think part of the fun of building your character in an RPG is choice. Tradeoffs. Do I pick this or that. Skyrim has such a system, but it offers a path that more or less gives you everything anyway.

The light armor vs heavy armor thing, well, if that was intentional, then I guess I don't understand their idea of balance.

Then again, most games do break when you min max too heavily. Some more than others.

Thing is, from my game experience, I have yet to fill or even select the majority of either Armor perks; simply not needed. But to wear simple clothing and survive, that appears to require a fair amt of investment in Alteration, or possibly Enchantment.

What I enjoy is the freedom of design; so many possibilities.

Ok, OK, I'm sold.   Everyone is talking about Serena.

Can someone post a screenshot of her?   even a grainy one from your TV or something?

Finished dawnguard a few days ago. The two factions were surprisingly shallow for a beth game. I got about 15 hours from my first playthrough but i guess i was expecting more. Still, solid content and lore.

I read a few pages back someone asking something to spice up gameplay. For those who would like to enhance gameplay, I use a variety of mods to make the game both more rewarding and difficult.

The first mod is ACE - Comprehensive Enhancements.

It does a variety of things, but for my purposes (gameplay) it diversifies the weapons, splitting bows into two types: Long and Light. Long Bows do more damage, stagger enemies but are slow to notch and is hard to sneak around with while carrying. Light bows are stealthy, quick, and cause more bleeding damage.

Stances are introduced to the game. An example would be the duelist, which uses a 1h weapon without a shield. Your parry ability is raised, as well as dodge and crit chance, but you are more likely to stumble when hit. I won't explain it fully in detail, but know that it makes fighting enemies tough yet satisfying.

Just read for the rest of the changes. Its also completely modular so you can choose what you want and what you don't. I chose to use archery, armor, realistic footing, weapons, and synergy (if you are 100 smithing and 100 two-handed, you get a bonus to damage on weapons you crafted due to you being a master.)

I also use ACE in conjunction with Duel Combat Realism. Those two mods are like 1 and 1a.Your blocks tie in with stamina, as well as the damage that you take while blocking. You take a block from an opponent who is using 100% stamina to your 75%, no problem. You repel it with ease, while losing 30% or so. You take a 100% stamina heavy attack while tired below 20% stamina, you may do well to not get damaged, but you will be exhausted and barely able to move. The computer also blocks better. Basically these two mods combined makes the AI smart and not just rush in stupidly. They will rely on backup as well when they are recovering.

In terms of actual gameplay, nearly everyone knows about Warzones. I recommend Immersive Patrols in addition or even by itself. It adds

1 Thalmor Patrol (7 units each) - (Near the Embassy of course)
8 Stormcloak Patrols. (5 units each)
8 Imperial Patrols. (5 units each)

Occasionally, the patrols will cross paths with one another.

As well, I use Bandit Raids. It does exactly that, adding large-scale raids to cities like Whiterun, Markarth, and the like (think 20+ leveled bandits). They will spawn every now and then and lead a raid and storm the front gates. It was really epic when an Imperial patrol caught sight of the battle and joined the frey. I was RPing as a Blue Stripes commando unit with 8 followers and by the end of it, 4 out of 5 patrol members laid dead, 5 of my followers, and I was on my last leg. If you want difficult encounters, this is pretty good when used in conjunction with the gameplay mods above.

I use a variety of other mods for aesthetic purposes like graphics mods and UNP body and Witcher characters and armor.

I hope this is helpful to someone. These mods have allowed me to still play Skyrim after so many hours of playing it. Image IPB

edit: adding link for Bandit raids

I think I found my CTD culprit- a mod called House Mods on Steam Workshop. I suspected that was causing the problem, because my issues started up around the time I loaded it. I was hoping not because it really makes some subtle but very nice changes to the houses. I'm sad to uninstall it.

Mods are funny things. I have the Real Wildlife mod which lets you get alchemy ingredients from animal kills, and one that automatically offloads alchemy ingredients into a satchel. I only just realized that the satchel mod wasn't recognizing the new alchemy ingredients, so I had been carrying around 200 pounds of animal guts without knowing it. lol

Yes...very sad, I'm hoping Bethesda does what they did with Lydia and add her to the Marriage list.

meh, her personality must be doing it for the fans, then, because she's just  average looking at best.

After looking at some of the other options for so many hours, she is a regular Warrior Princess. But do not believe I would like to have her provide a hot meal after a long day....

P.S. Thanks for posting that pic!

Ugh, I dislike marriage in Skyrim anyway. I'm never getting married in real life if that's what it's like. I already have one person sitting around at my place without doing anything useful, and that's one person too many. Yes, I'm talking about me :)

Hey, my female Nord has a palemface but has purple veins sticking out, bu Serana doesn't?

Also, from the very centre of her nose between the nostrils, a red line comes down past the lips and down to her chin like she has some nose bleed. Does anyone have this?

Can't say I've seen this myself. Perhaps she really does have a nosebleed.

Serana looks like a great companion. I was laughing when seeing the official Dawnguard forums. People are petitioning to make her a potential spouse.
I have a hard time picturing a vampire cooking meals though.

Anyone got a hoarding problem here? Whenever i open one of my cupboards in the Winterhold mages group, it lags because of the amount of **** i have just stashed in it.

I'm having issues selling them due to so many gems, i can't find a decent seller who has enough to even have my gems.

Invest in the riverwood trader shop. He'll then have 10000 gold.
Play a thief, fences all have 4000 gold.

And try to stash your loot not in one and only place. Use different cupboards at least ;)

That low-quality screenshot does not do her justice. She looks better in-game, trust me. Her voice is also lovely. And indeed her personality is what I find most interesting about her.

I think she's actually inspired by her. In fact, the whole Dawnguard DLC has Underword and Van Helsing dripping over it.

God damn it.

I got a really annoying bug with my horse.
I cant use a weapon on horseback since my PC looks like they are STANDING on the horse.
If anyone knows how to fix that I would be much obliged.

Anywho I seemingly have pissed off someone...since I got a Dark Brotherhood assassin after me.
Even though I have done not a single crime...odd.
