Think I will wait for DG after all, I had started the Spell Breaker quest, but upon review, this shield fails to allow for normal Blocking; believe I will simply wait for the Shield of Solitude.

??  I happily bashed a lot of people with Spellbreaker.

Ugly as sin.

Well, she is a Nord - pretty easy to see why you'd think that.

BTW, I was finally able to pickpocket Farengar for the key for the Whispering Door. I had a ring of sneak (30%) and a necklace of pickpocket (35%). That worked, first try.

And now the Ebony Blade is sitting in a chest, along with Wuuthrad, Ysgramor's shield, Molag Bal's mace, etc., etc.

In the lore forum I saw an interesting theory on how Ebony Blade got there.  The guy was guessing that Irileth was once Morag Tong, who are servants of Mephala.  I guess in the CK there is dialogue for a quest where eventually Balgruuf's children kill him on Mephala's order.  Image IPB  So the guy also theorized that at least one or more of the kids is Irileth's- though I don't think that squares with Racial Phylogeny which says that mixed-race children are generally the mother's race with some of the father's traits.

Anyway, some juicy gossip.  Image IPB

The Ebony Blade is horrible in Skyrim - it's a two-handed weapon and gives experience to the Two-Handed skill, but your One-Handed level and perks are somehow what govern how strong it is. I don't know if it was intentional or simply an oversight, but it makes the weapon useless either way for a two-handed weapons user.

Also, Frost Dragons are waaaay overpowered.

You guys are getting vamps when you FT.lucklys i havent been and im bout halfway through DG.
Still getting mulitply dragons every time when i FT though.just the other day i had to fight off five dragons.it was crazy.

Not me just exiting a building at night has caused them to attack. I've actually had to fast travel to the stables and to Whiterun to have a chance to save the people. As a new character this blows.

Edit: It's especially frustrating because the Vampire attacks happen every single night.

^ That is an interesting point, actually. I think I've just gotten lucky on time of day. Most of the time, I show up during the day when fast traveling, so there haven't been many vampires ambling about.

I wonder if vampires still infiltrate and attack cities if you side with them? I guess it would make sense if they do. They still gotta feed, and all that.

What's cool is that now it's obvious who is a vampire, and who is not. Like...I had no idea Sybille Stentor was until I read it in this thread, but with the DLC installed, her eyes are different. It's pretty obvious. Same thing with Hern and Hert (DB contract).

What about this entry in the Wiki:

Combined with the Elemental Protection perk the shield renders most enemy-casted Destruction magic useless, as the perk halves the incoming damage, and the ward typically takes care of the rest. The shield seems more effective against spells that "spray", such as Sparks and Flames. When the ward is broken, the shield drops, meaning the shield cannot be used to block physical blows. Spellbreaker benefits from the Restoration perk, "Ward Absorb".

Wait...What?

You have to have the Elder Scroll from Blackreach to do Dawnguard. WTF? I sold it to what's-his-face at the College, becuase I got tired of carrying around 20 virtually useless pounds, freaking years ago it seems!

Couple things.  First, the Elder Scroll actually doesn't weigh anything.  It says 25 lbs, but sell it to the College librarian then look at your carry weight again....  doesn't change.

Second, according to at least one person I've talked to who's played Dawnguard,  that college librarian  has no problem  selling it back to you, despite his previous,  and hilarious, tirade about how profoundly priceless it is as a library addition.  lol

Speaking of which, and I've had this question for a while and have been away from Skyrim for a bit too long, but does any Magic Resistance augmentation give you resistance against adversary's Shouts (Deathlords), since I suppose they are technically magic?

Yeah, that's the problem with all Katanas.  There's mods that fix that, but the  philosophical issue remains:  Should Katanas be one handed or 2 handed?  Ask 10 people and 5 will say one handed,  and the other 5 will say 2 handed.

Yeah thanks, doesn't look like a show stopper; and I hadn't paid close enough attention to realize the weight issue was a ruse, or probably more likely, an oversight.

The best shield in the game is Spellbreaker.

You can literally wade right through a magic attack from anything, it has a great AR, and it looks cool.
I have finally got my main set for Dawnguard too.
Have 45 hawk feathers!

Just...have to wait 24 days...
Maybe replay New Vegas

I always thought it was a lie those people of the DB contract were vampires because neither had vampire dust on them when I looted their bodies.

Hern was definitely a vampire - he had the eyes. Also, if you check the shed out next to their lumber mill, you'll find bloody human remains among animal remains.

Not to mention their... creepy, overbearing demeanors. They do so love their "guests", after all.

Also, you can tell Hern once you have the contract that you know he's a "night walker", and he will attack you on the spot.

Well, their old eyes were pretty distinctive and nasty-looking. Anyone who saw them should've been suspicious - though their new glowing eyes do stand out more.

Most swords were made to be used in one or two hands, not just Japanese swords but European swords as well. There were swords, like the zweihander or nodachi, that were specifically made for two handed use...but most swords were versatile and light enough that they could be used in one or two hands. Games have a long history of oversimplifying swords or lumping many different swords into one word, such as the "longsword".

I have no idea what they're talking about.  For all that I ever noticed, Spellbreaker acts exactly as any other shield.  The magic resistance and stagger from shield bash is far more important, so I would use it even if that were true.  Magic resist gives you elemental protection, so my battlemage with high magic resist can cast fireballs with impunity and barely takes any damage at all from dragons.

OK; thanks for the tip. Spell Breaker may be gained earlier than the Solitude shield, so this will be helpful when DG is finally released.

Funny little bit... I'm walking along minding my own business when suddenly this group of Vigilants run up and start attacking me. They've never done this before so I'm thinking "dudes, what got into you"... then remember I'm currently running around with a priestess of Azura in tow. Pretty cool reactivity. Unless that is from the Radiance mod??

Did they add more Forsworn members into their groups?

I just got jumped by EIGHT of them.
Sadly jumping the guy wearing Daedric gear, and swinging a sword for dragon slaying is not very smart.

Still its fun to have gone from a guy who has trouble taking on 2-3 people, to someone who can kill eight people effortlessly.
Still is rather fun though to Call ODAHVIING on a single thief.

Odahviing is awesome. "I wish the old one luck on his quest." *skeptical eye*

Speaking of the old one... I come out of a ruin near Morthal and see this dragon, so I Dragonrend him and start blasting, then see his name- Paarthurnax. Dude! You're supposed to be up at the Throat of the World, not lollygagging in the swamps. He just flew off.
