**I suppose possible minor spoilers for people who want a total surprise follow**
Some things that I'm noticing for the first time and wondering if they are Dawnguard add-on's or if I've just never seen them before: thunder storms, I've seriously never seen those before and neither has my brother, is it new? Hearing woodpeckers in forest areas and being accosted by a red eyed Khajit attempting to sell me skooma and moon sugar, he took a remarkable amount of damage, the red eyes make me think Dawnguard but I did encounter him during the day. If those things are DG related then those are some great touches, if not then its impressive that I'm finding new things still, no matter how small they are.

If you've played through Skyrim a couple of times, you'll likely notice these changes. Of course, it's also possible that I was much more aware while playing Dawnguard than I normally would be.
My favorite change so far is how vampires look. Especially if you sneak up on a vampire in the dark, and that's all you can see is their eyes. Trippy.

Just the other day I met a farmer near Whiterun taking a painted cow to the Giants as a tribute for not attacking the local farms; never saw this before. And while walking to Riverwood from Helgen after Alduin's assault, we were attacked by wolves in the usual location, and a moment later snipers opened on us from across the river; never saw them, but my guide appeared to drop one and the other fled.
And then I nearly fell out of my chair when the encounter music started to play, and I turned to see a fox going for my throat! Stupid Spriggans! Sure; have seen them before, but I had stopped paying much attention to the more docile wildlife.

I hate when guards say something and mark a location on your map, half the time I don't quite cach what they say because I stopped listening to them ages ago and it's almost impossible to tell what they have marked on your map. One told me about some undead recently, I've no clue where or what he was on about.

I am very interested in doing a new run through the game with a bow-focused characters. Do crossbows work with these perks and is there a steady (and infinite) supply of bolts? Oh and do you actually get new perks with Dawnguard or just the same old?

I have a question about the crossbow for all you Dawnguard players:

Yep, crossbows benefit from the archery tree. Just the same old perks, but crossbows do have a very different feel to them compared to regular bows.
This probably goes without saying, but vampires are not very fond of crossbows so if you want more than just the basic starter set you'll need to side with the Dawnguard. There are plenty of bolts for the taking around the fort, Dwarven constructs will drop them, you can make your own if you've got steel or dwarven smithing perks, or you can buy them from the merchants you recruit. Eventually, you'll be given a series of side quests to find upgrades for them. The enhanced bolts are harder to come by though, unfortunately. The merchant who sells them doesn't have a very large stock and they require alchemical salts if you want to make them yourself.

Yep, and Immersive Thunder mod makes them sound really cool.Yrkoon wrote...
Thunderstorms I can confirm are in the vanilla game, and as far as I know are seasonal (yes, the months of the year matter in this game)

Also, just a little tidbit of info - there are some pretty earth-shattering revelations regarding TES lore and history in this expansion. I won't spoil anything, but I think you'll be shocked when you meet one NPC in particular, especially if you're fairly well-versed in TES lore.

I thought at first the change was contrived, but the story does make sense. The Blades started protecting the dragonborn, Tiber became the greatest dragonborn, and all the emperors that succeeded him were d.b., so it does fit. Delphine and Esbern being extremists is what makes them annoying. "Don't you see the peril! We must do something! Oh, a dragon is helping you? B'bye."HoonDing wrote...
Funny how quickly the Blades went all gung-ho "We wants to them kill dragons!!!" right after they showed up again after thousands of years.
Such terribly written characters. Being forced to deal with those morons is insulting.

Personally, I think the Blades are an archaic organization who have long outlived their usefulness, and should remain in the dustbin of history where they belong. I know I won't miss them.

The Blades treat you like a lackey, send you running around without a thank you, and dont really teach you anything.
I mean Arngeir is a really cool old guy and Paarthurnax is also cool.
I mean no matter how often I talk to Paarthurnax I always enjoy it.

There is no reason to listen to anything the tavern wench and the old fogey have to tell you, anyway - they want you to just take everything they say at their word and without question, while the Greybeards offer you training and guidance in the Way, and let you choose your own path after that. Considering that, I know who's better earned my trust.

Thanks, that is exactly what I wanted to hear. Been wanting to start up an archer character forever but never got around to it. Will be the perfect preparation for the DLC.

Wow, the Forgotten Vale is... wow, just... wow. Bethesda seems to have a knack for creating large, absolutely awe-inspiring areas like this, the Soul Cairn, and Blackreach. The Vale is the most beautiful area by far, however..
Agreed. The Forgotten Vale is simply breathtaking. It's a shoo-in for my favorite location.
It also happens to contain one of the best bits of Serana commentary in the game. I've learned my lesson about chasing waterfalls.

I recall being completely disgusted the first time I went into one of those Falmer tent things and saw that it was lined with human skin. Then I thought about it some more and it dawned on me that my Nord was decked out in a full set of leather armor. Then I started wondering if that cognitive dissonance was intentional on the part of the designers. At that point, I then decided I'd rather just not think about it.
