So last night, I visited the face-changer in Riften. She's a sassy one - I like her. If you question whether she really knows what she's doing, she goes off on you, basically saying she doesn't have to prove herself to a peon like the Dragonborn. I chuckled, because the character I was playing was my first, so I'd finished all major quest lines, and was the Guildmaster of the TG (and the Listener, etc., etc.)
No spoilers below.
I totally messed up, though. I was playing the Vampire Lord side in DG, and reached a specific moment in a quest where I should have been patient. But no, I felt threatened, and started filling a couple of tough vampires full of ebony arrows. My quest log tells me the next two steps, I do them, and the last thing I had to do was go back to the castle to check in with the quest-giver.
Wouldn't you freaking know it? Because I was trigger-happy, the vampires went hostile on me immediately when I walked in the door...probably because I was shooting before those guys were red dots. And I'd overwritten my save from right before that point. The one before that was from 4 hours earlier. OMG.
So alas, tonight I get to redo last night. This time, I'm going to be better prepared.
P.S. I was nervous about playing as a vampire/vampire lord, as I'd never done it, but it pretty much kicks arse. I think it's more difficult at higher levels, though, at least for a time. Until you get your vampire lord perk tree filled up, you're kind of a wimp against groups of enemies. I might try this with a lower-level character instead (I did it with a level 53).
Of course, I'm basing that belief on my one wimpy vampire lord going up against the entire castle full of vampires.
