There's a Nirnroot *farm* in the rift, somewhere northwest of riften... I forget its name.  "serileth" farm, or some such.  Starts with an *s*.    Lots of nirnroot there.  Other than that, Nirnroot grows near water, and under Bridges.

Serethi

You can get a lot of nirnroot just by swimming the rivers and watching the bank for some.  Also pick up some dragonflies, mudcrab chitin and fish while you're at it.

Catching dragonflies is the great cosmic struggle of my Skyrim existence.  Those dratted little things are fast.

I'm level 39 and i've been seeing only Elder, Frost, and regular no revered or legendary either

I believe the way it works is Ancients show up at Level 40, Revered at Level 45, and Legendary at Level 50.

iThink. I could be mistaken.

One more thing: the final boss in the DG questline is no pushover - be prepared.

I'm enjoying Dawnguard so far but it keeps crashing on me. I've played about 3 or 4 hours since last night and had 2 crashes and several times it's frozen up for a couple of seconds and then started again.

I did have a slightly bizarre situation just before the last crash. I was walking along past the entrance of Solitude to head up the mountain there. When from out of nowhere comes the strange sight of a skeleton charging me, on its own in broad daylight, with half its health bar missing. I searched around and can't figure out where the hell it came from or what took half its health bar off. It was an hilarious mystery.

There is some nightshade by the cemetary that is right next to the first crypt you go to as a Companion (It's in the middle of Whiterun hold.)

I still get a kick out of people trash talking you as you fight them.

Especially when in the middle of a kill cam.

I know right where you're talking about. I've had that happen before. Actually, when I was doing the TG quest, shadowing Gulum-Ei, and was just about to turn left, to go by Katla's Farm, and those skeletons showed up. He cowered behind a city guard, who just stood there. My follower took out her bow and killed them. It was pretty funny.

There seem to be some random skeletons pretty much the entire route between Wolfskull Cave - Meridia's Temple - Solitude. They show up around there pretty often.

I'm with you on the crashing. I've had that happen a couple of times since I got Dawnguard. That was within about 30 hours, but it sounds like you've had worse luck than me.

I have Skyrim on PC + 360 and really really want to play Dawnguard, but equally would prefer to play it with my 'main' character first for the (relatively) spoiler free experience. Decisions decisions...

I believe it requires Level 50 or higher to come across Legendaries.

I've come across a few and I'm level 81.

Hmm, maybe they're just really rare at lower levels then.

I've been over 50 for a while and haven't even glimpsed a Revered. Sitting on level 57 at the moment and unless I start dramatically changing my play style, I don't see how I'm going to get much higher than that.

I am a 66,and have since beat the DLC,still NO Legendary Dragons. I have killed 60+ Dragons at least, most of them were Ancient . I have killed a Revered dragon and a few new named ones... Awesome! 190 plus hours into that playthough.

Apparently Legendary Ones only appear in the levelled lists around level 75+.
So a very high level is needed.

Is the vampire side of Dawnguard worth making a whole new character...I've only done the Dawnguard side and it was awesome, but i'm not sure if i want to make a new character just to have the same quests just different ending

Wow, these Volkihar vampires are brutal - their castle is basically a gigantic torture shack, and the remains of hundreds if not thousands of people are strewn all throughout the place, in addition to huge wine barrels full of blood and a "dining" room so twisted, it would make Eola blush.

I'm having second thoughts about replaying as a vampire, now - these people are the epitome of evil.

^ Yeah, I had to give it a couple of days before I started it. I needed to be at peace with killing members of the Dawnguard, whom I'd just spent many hours helping.

Castle Volkihar is pretty gruesome. Image IPB When I went into it with Ghorbash, he cracked me up with his, "Smell that? Blood."

I'm contemplating switching out the Breton I was using for my vampire run. She was my first character, so her skills are kind of all over the place, and my preferences have changed since then. It felt really weird using a mace. Like...totally ineffective after using battleaxes in my Redguard playthrough.

@Fezz, I think it's worthy of a new playthrough, why not? So far in my vampire run, the side quests are different...and I think the quest I was doing last night was a main quest, and it was totally different. Past that, I have no idea. I am still stuck at work, so I can't really tell you much atm.

Then again, I think it's always a good idea to create a new character. That's why I have 13 of them. I was considering making more, but with the face changer in Riften (with Dawnguard DLC), there's really not much point. I have at least 1 in each race.

Wait, you can change your face? I never knew. Then again, I had a repeatable crash in Riften and never spent much time there if I could help it.

^ Well, no, not in the vanilla game. You can only do that with the Dawnguard DLC. So once you have that, yes. Sorry, probably should have been more clear about that.

Well, another first for me. I managed to help defend Whiterun from the Stormcloaks, and this time they did not make it to the drawbridge. Maybe this time things will not be as broken in the city for the remainder of the game.

And while Cassandra Rose hardly used any new tactics, she certainly looked formidable in the role: Archmage Robes, staff and shield, while wearing the mask of Morokei. No sweet roll jokes this time either!

Well I will buy the DLC when it comes out so no worries there.

But knowing I will be able to change my appearance actually helps me out a great deal. I'm about to start a new character, and now I don't have to obsess about some little detail I got wrong. I know it sounds silly, but this is actually quite painful for me usually. Yes, I also have OCD (and no that is not a joke) :)

By the way, at which level are you all starting to play the new DLC? If I create a new character, do I need to reach a certain level/gear level to survive?

Yes, exactly there. I was just a bit past the farm when it happened. I reloaded after the crash and my save was a good 10 minutes before that incident, so I had to go by that way again. This time I heard the distinctive rattle of a skeleton and looked all around me, it took me a good couple of minutes to spot the skeletons hand that was rolling disembodied down the hill. I investigated once again and couldn't figure out what killed it. That place is a mystery to me.

I'd the same issue in Fallout: New Vegas, no crashes or bugs for 49 hours and then suddenly I had about 6 crashes in 2 days. I am blaming DG though, it just doesn't feel as stable as it was now in a few ways, not just the crashing. Thoroughly enjoying it so far though despite the crashing.

Ah crashes... Too bad. I also had crashing issues with OWB for New Vegas.

I am also wondering how this will work with the HD texture pack. Hopefully there will be one for Dawnguard as well.

I believe Bethesda recommended level 10 at a minimum. Of course, that didn't stop my 14-year old nephew from starting at level 8 last night, but I'm sure he'll be fine.

I think I was around level 30 when I started the DG side, and I was just fine. On the vampire side, I loaded a level 53 character, that was poorly spec'd, and got my arse handed to me a few times.

If you have balanced (and focused) skill trees, I think you'll probably be fine at any level.

And BTW, I'm not sure I could adequately express the joy I had in changing the face of the character who I'd spent the most time with - just over 300 hours. She no longer has a witchy nose, and actually looks pretty. I'll have to post a photo. Surprisingly, the lighting in the Ragged Flagon wasn't as awful as I feared. It was decent, actually.
