Well I will buy the DLC when it comes out so no worries there.

But knowing I will be able to change my appearance actually helps me out a great deal. I'm about to start a new character, and now I don't have to obsess about some little detail I got wrong. I know it sounds silly, but this is actually quite painful for me usually. Yes, I also have OCD (and no that is not a joke) :)

By the way, at which level are you all starting to play the new DLC? If I create a new character, do I need to reach a certain level/gear level to survive?

I was level 46 or 47 when I started, main skills are One handed 97, Sneak 100, Smithing 100 and Light Armour 82(slightly odd mix I know). I haven't found it to be overly difficult it just takes slightly longer to kill things, sometimes. I'm not too far into it but have met a few new enemies, I've yet to come close to death.

I just hope the DLC makes combat more...varied at least.
Because right now I have seen, and killed something of everything.

Also I am still trying to write out the lyrics for a Skyrim version of "IVE BEEN EVERYWHERE" by Johnny Cash.

Appearance Inquiry: What can be done in the CC to make the appearance smile; less serious? This has not been an issue so much with the males, but the close ups on a female character are so stern; almost lifeless.

I wish they had left in some of a characters raw potential rather than have everything weighted on skill alone. People are defined by more than just their skills....strength, agility, natural charisma, intelligence should also be factored. A scrawny person might know the techniques of fighting from reading a book...but lacking in the physical area needed, that person isn't going to be able to utilize those techniques very well. It's a big hole in this game.

As a new Player of TES, I disagree; rather like the way Stamina is linked to Strength, and Intelligence is joined with Magika. Then Persuade, Intimidate, etc appear to combined in Speech which is affected in a variety of methods.

While a more seperated Ability system might be fine, the current one works rather well.

I know people hate the term streamlined but, Skyrim did it pretty well.
I know STR, CON, DEX, INT, WIS, and CHA are a main stay, but honestly I prefer a much more direct system.

This does that, X leads to Y.
Much better.

If you compare Skyrim to the previous installments, the streamlining did the game a lot of good.

Having to repair for example didn't add anything to the game. This is fantasy, not a survival game. And the implementation of the repair system was awful: just carry a bag of hammers and fix everything on the spot. It adds no value to the game and serves only to annoy. I remember being in a dungeon in Morrowind and not daring to repair my almost completely broken weapon because then I would level up and get a low multiplier and gimp my character.

Which leads my to my next point. The counterintuitive leveling system had to go, and they actually scrapped it. Now, I would personally prefer something just a tad more complex, but they certainly took a step in the right direction.

There's nothing linking anything to anything because you are missing the other ingredient of what defines someone...their natural abilities. We're just left with a generic character that can do anything and everything. My high elf with arms like toothpicks can be as good a warrior as my orc, and my orc may be dumb as a box of rocks but she can still be a master mage...because there is nothing that defines their physicality or intellect.

If your Orc is placing pts into Magika, then it seems that his intellect is expanding to fit the new role. And if your Elf can hit opponents as well as an Orc, then he trained to do it,

Personally, I enjoy shattering types. My fave Dragonborn thus far has been my noble hearted Orc; a bit surly at times, but could be as pleasant as dessert. He was downright chivalrous at the Thalmor party, well until after drinks were served.

Rather miffed that Bethesda hasn't even announced a release date for the PC.

So. I play a Redguard with legendary Daedric everything with various buffs on the armour (most notably Fortify Destruction 100% and Fortify Restoration 100%) and +75 fire and frost damage on two Daedric swords (also legendary, natch). Is it safe to assume that I will steamroll everything that crosses my path in Dawnguard? I'm ashamed to admit it, but I rather like blowing through everything with ease.

That's true and this is the kind of focus and added complexity I would like. Still, there never was much of that in Morrowind or Oblivion anyway.

Still, it seems to me that this is actually what some people want from the game.

Personally I'm just glad it was a step in the right direction from Oblivion.

@Olaf the polar bear: I would be very surprised if you couldn't. My level 53 with crafted/enchanted gear is absolutely unbeatable. I fully expect to steamroll Dawnguard with that character. Rather than gimping myself by wearing crappy gear, I am making a fresh new character.

Part of the issue with defining character is in the shallow RP. Like most people treat you as a Nord even if you are not a Nord. My dark elf never feels the racial tensions in Windhelm because most of the NPC's seem blind to the fact that's she's a dark elf. Then you have the khajiit pc which can run amok through the city, but yet all the other khajiit have to stay outside. Stuff like that just kills the RP immersion for me.

Perhaps the native Nords subconsciously feel that the PC is the Dragonborn and steer clear of you, lest you open a can of FUS RO DAH?

But yes, I can see how that would break immersion.

Me too.  I'm probably going to go on to something else again.  I was thinking we'd be getting close to being able to play Dawnguard by now but they haven't said a peep about it.

It is a roleplaying game.  So maybe.... try roleplaying?

Certain mouth shapes are more smiling than others.  My Stormcloak is stern looking, my thief has a little smirk.  Personally I think the serious expressions more suit the game.

Hmm I've seen plenty of the "normal" new enemies added with Dawnguard. However I have yet to see any of the new dragons, any area's they tend to favor?

Or you could go outside, read a book, hug a tree, learn a new language, meet new people, do charity work and generally be an active and positive individual!

Personally, I prefer my computer.

Hey guys, just wanted a little help on picking some Skyrim mods on skyrimnexus.com.

I haven't played Skyrim in a few months and looking to pick it back up. What do you guys recommend?

SkyUI and the UFO follower mod looks like a must for me.

I need some recommendations on some good texture+post-processing graphics mods. ENB looks fantastic but I'm not sure my PC can handle those mods. I have a AMD 1090t six-core 3.9, GTX 570 but only 4GB RAM right now(need to upgrade this). I was thinking maybe I can use Skyrim HD mod and then drop something like the FXAA injector in. What do you guys think on that? The default FXAA options for the game seem to suck, so I'd imagine the Injector will give me much more customization.

What other mods do you guys recommend? Any good mods that add a bunch of HD armor/weapons in the world?

A few I'm looking at:

Realistic Lighting(not sure if this is compatible with Skyrim HD/FXAA Injector):
skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/7654

Sounds of Skyrim-Dungeons:
skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/8601

Moonpath to Elsewyr(this one looks amazing):
skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/9782

I feel obligated to mention something else about Dawnguard: any of you old-school Morrowind players (like myself) are in for a little bonus when you head into the Soul Cairn, as a familiar face wanders the barren plains awaiting someone to help him finish his book - be on the lookout for him when you go.
