Wait, it's possible to save Alvor? I remember reloading my game again and again and every time he was the only one who got killed. How annoying when he is the most important person in that town as a blacksmith and vendor.

His name amuses me, by the way. He was so serious because he was doomed. DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO...

... OOOOOOOMED.

lol he never died in my game actully. On the other hand Louis Letrush will soon have a Grand Army of the Republic.

I'm hesitant to go by the stables now. His numbers grow each time.

First there was two. Then Four, Then Five, then nine, now 12. Soon dispite only having a knife on each body he will take over Whiterun. I have foreseen it.

Well, since you asked...

As you can see, that totally bad dude is decked out in full Daedric armour, with two max-level enchantments on every piece, with his trust sword named 'Awesome Sword', a Daedric sword that has been upgraded to Legendary and with added 69 frost and fire damage, by his side.

His name is General Kickass.

They're probably waiting so they have something to announce at ComicCon next week. *grumble*

@deuce- I ended up uninstalling the dungeon sounds mod because it was a little too corny Halloween for me. The one I think is fantastic is Real Wildlife. It adds a lot of subtle realism, I'd almost call them mini-encounters, that make the game feel fresh. They even add some realistic animal sounds. I came around a corner and heard this blood-chilling snarl. It took me a minute to see that it was a sabre cat. Scared the crap out of me.

Also the Radiance mod, which adds some random encounters as well.  Very nicely done.

One of the more palatial house mods which is also well done is Grey Ledge Manor.  It's on a mountaintop next to a waterfall and has a very open feeling- in fact no load doors.

Any recommendations on graphics mods? I want to try ENB but I'm not sure I can handle it...looks pretty ridiculous.

I can recommend the STEP (Skyrim Total Enhancement Projects) guide for that. skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/11

Of course you don't have to follow it completely, but it can help you find graphic mods of good quality.

I wouldn't feel too bad. Bolli was Probably cheating on his wife anyway. Every night at the Bee And Barb you can see him sitting at a table with Haelga having drinks. And considering what we know about Haelga....

His wife is stepping out on him with multiple men, though.  Ah, true love.  :D

Something like the SPECIAL system would have been way better than the garbage Skyrim system. The SPECIAL system at least gives characters more individuality.

And old-time Fallout people hate SPECIAL.  It's just the same as making a skill-based character.  I don't think about roleplaying when I'm picking points, I'm thinking "what skills am I going to be using."

You accuse us of fanboyism, but the negative nancy routine is tiresome.  Most of the thread peeps complain about things we don't like but don't come on here exclusively to throw out whines.  If you were contributing anything else but that, you wouldn't be getting aggro.  As it is you're basically just trolling.

Why? Why didn't you get help from the Jarl sooner? This could have been avoided! =(

Nope, that's the plight of non-essential npcs =(.  The same elder dragon took out Sven.  So far the only Riverwood natives surviving are Faendal (ranged), Hadvar (essential) and others that do nothing during a dragon attack.

I sometimes see Riverwood people die in dragon attacks, but it's far from necessary for them to. I don't think I've ever had Alvor die in a game. Once Faendal did, another time Sven.

Fortunately, on PC, if you absolutely don't want to lose a valuable NPC like Alvor to random events, you can just rez him.

That and modability is why I NEVER play RPGs on console. Ever.

I wish people would RUN from dragons sometimes.

But...I always will get a kick seeing Noster One-Eye take out a dragon with an iron knife, then wander off asking for money.

It's not like console players are completely out of options in those situations. You can always just load the last auto save if need be.

I try not to do that too often though. But some people are just too important to die. Like Adrianne Avenicci. You can't have her "Mysterious Traveler"! Nope. Not going to happen. *reload*

The only NPCs who have died on my watch in the game are three of the Orcs from Largashbur - I'm meticulous about making sure no one dies in any kind of attacks (dragon or vampire), and I'll reload for as long as it takes to make sure it doesn't happen to anyone.

Pity I couldn't save Largashbur - I put that giant six feet under and avenged their deaths, at least.

Pointing out bugs and features of the game that are completely broken is trolling now? That's a warped sense of view you have. Sounds like one of the bought off reviewers that rated this game way higher than it should have been.

The first issue with ES games is someone had the dumb idea of playing a fantasy RPG in first person shooter mode. That has been somewhat fixed in Skyrim, though third person is still kind of wonky.

They can't even fix the hotkey system that is broken. That should have been picked up in development or at least been patched by now.

Sure the scope of the game is big, but the details are lacking. Most of the npc's just path around in a catatonic state. You get a quest and then more than likely you never hear anything more from that NPC. They never really connect you to the events that are happening, unless of course you play a Nord because that's what everyone treats you as.

Marriage. Why? In a world with shallow NPC's I don't see the point...other than as an added source of income.

Too much randomization.

They should have implemented some sort of pause or something durining conversations. Many times i've found myself locked in conversation and something random attacked me.

Too heavily skill based and no defining attributes for characters. Every character you create is pretty much the same other than the surface color...and since most NPC's don't recognize your race, that doesn't matter much either.

The crafting skills are pretty gamebreaking. Most adventurers go dungeon crawling for the treasure...in this game mostly all you get is junk. Two hours of battling through a dungeon for a lousy sword I could have made myself...wow.

Bethesda's attitude that players should fix it themselves. Ummm...if I bought a new car that had mechanical problems and the dealer told me to fix it myself, I would be taking them to court. I don't know why game developers get a pass on this. They should at least knock thirty dollars off the price if this is how they do business.

Ugly yellow granny panties. I think many game companies are competing for the prize of worst underclothing.

I've had Largashbur taken out a time or two myself. Usually if I don't realize I've entered the cell which triggers a giant attack. I had to Whirlwind Sprint to save them once.

@ Jestina- "the negative nancy routine is tiresome" was not a cue to make an even bigger list of whines.  *sigh*  I can see I'm just encouraging you.

I feel obligated to mention something else about Dawnguard: any of you old-school Morrowind players (like myself) are in for a little bonus when you head into the Soul Cairn, as a familiar face wanders the barren plains awaiting someone to help him finish his book - be on the lookout for him when you go.

Thanks for the heads up Goron, I love me some Morrowind references. :D

Whether or not this is trolling, it is incorrect. And apparently prejudicial and biased to boot.

I do not like FPS or constant view myself, but this is a non-issue in Skyrim, and it works just fine; 900+ hrs worth of proof currently.

Have no idea what hotkey issues there may be, as I play on the PC and they all work fine. Then again, I selected non-console mode in options per advice, I believe.

The NPC's may not treat your Dragonborn in a way you enjoy, but they do react to them. Crime, use of magic and Shouts, what you wear and use as weaponry, your skill choices, your faction choices, etc are all mentioned by the surrounding world. They may or may not not react in a way that is acceptable, but for the most part, the Player can react to them in the same way, too.

Marriage and romance is the weakest link in my own opinion, but that is far from the priority in why I play the game.

There is randomization, but plenty of linearity; almost every quest line for example. But I expect randomizarion in a sanbox game, and am happy with the linear features to make my intial foray into a new type of play so smooth and rewarding.

Now while it would be pleasant to not be interrupted by passing NPC's (there is a mod for this), I find the attacks to be not only surprising, but highly exciting and enjoyable when they do occur. And there are several ways to Pause (eg; favorites, Inventory, Powers, etc); again, this Twitchless player has 900+hrs to use as evidence.

If every character is the same, this is likely the fault of the Player; not the game as there are plenty of options, selections, and choices.

One may utilize Crafting, cheat codes, exploits, etc to break the game, but this again is a problem on the other side of the monitor; not in it. As I am currrently playing an Enchanter, and have had filled many possible castings via Disenchant, I would have to say the loot is plentiful; both mundane and enchanted.

The game ain't perfect, but is certainly more on track than your review.

The game is mediocre at best....certainly nowhere near what it was rated with all the problems it has, most of which got ignored by reviewers and you fanboy types. If this game had been put out by a lesser developer than say EA or Bethesda...the reviewers would have trashed it for all the problems it has.

Kinda  ridiculous, then, to  post 30+ times over the course of a month in a lone thread about a game you feel is "mediocre at best", don't you think?    Especially since this isn't  even Bethesda's host board,  Beth developers won't see your whining,  therefore  there's no way you could even claim the "constructive criticism" card.

So basically you're just trolling.  (and doing a terrible job, I might add.  The better troll posts usually have an edge to them.... the  comments burn because they contain a small nugget of truth.  But your posts don't even have that.)

I guess what I'm trying to say here is:  Put a little more substance and a little less Fail in your future time wastes..

PS: and don't you worry one bit about us.  This thread will continue with or without you, as it has every time some troll has popped in here to try and "teach us" about how 'good games are'.

There's nothing out right now worth playing, so I dug this out of the library to get a more accurate assessment of it. I had it out for review when it first arrived but there were better games to play at that time. Of course reviewing the game itself can be a problem since you have to deal with the blindly rabid ES fanbase...that tends to attack when you point out the myriad problems in the game.

I didn't even touch on the awful scaling system or broken followers...or random dragons killing quest NPC's in my last summary.

*BUZZ* Sorry; wrong answer!  Again, this is my first sandbox game; initial TES game, and have not posted a keystroke at the other forums.

And based on the number of incorrect statements made over these recent days,  that it ain't the game that is mediocre.

They have  no such attitude.   They've put out 7 patches in 7 months.  It's a wonder you're even a gamer.  Show me another  game company  that is more frequent with their fixes.

Ummm...if I bought a new car that had mechanical problems and the dealer told me to fix it myself, I would be taking them to court.

Terrible Analogy.  New cars typically come with  5 year warranties, or better, which you pay good money for. Video games don't.

That said, do you live in a box?  the Auto parts store industry is massive.  You'll find many MILLIONS of people who, in fact, love to fix  their own cars.  The huge difference, of course is that unlike auto parts,  Modding tools are Free.
