I always use soups on my melee and archer characters. Hence I'm always on the hunt for leeks.

My vampire character was just living off Potions of Blood and inside air (meaning, not out in the sunlight). She wasn't digging the thought of human cattle, for some reason. Image IPB

I bet leek-finding can get difficult.

Do people really have that much trouble with vampire attacks? Between me (and a follower if one is handy), guards, and town citizens we lay the beatdown on the bloodsuckers pretty quick. The vampires will usually switch targets when one of the NPCs drops to their knee, so deaths aren't as problematic as they would be otherwise.

My vamps seem to just kill and stick to one target, res them and move to the others...funny enough many a time I've seen guards use bows, then the citizens rush in, and while the vamps fall, the civies will get hit by arrow, then will in turn attack the guards, who slaughter them.

But my case isn't so bad on the Bethseda forums I've seen some folks who littlerally minus NPCs that stay inside all the time, and tagged NPC's have ghost towns.

The main problem is with fast travel, I'm sure we all have left a town in the day, then fast traveled back and it could be 5 AM and the AI seems to have been "stuck" in the spots from when the player left, then suddenly go "oh crap its closing/sleep/eat time!" thats where alot of high levels have taken huge loses. I remember on my now erased level 50 I had three Vampire lords and a few thralls and death hounds waiting for me in whiterun.

Saddly I ran into the NPC bug, and everytime a handful would die, so I reloaded waited outside an hour or two, then went in, and bam everyone is in bed. For some odd reason I've yet to see more than two guards helping me fight. So I just use a bit of fire breath and problem solved. I normally don't have a helper or fallower, often I get shot in the back by them. -_-

Hmm, I haven't run into much trouble like that. Usually it's just a Master Vampire and two easily killed thralls attacking people near the entrances of towns, or just one vampire who seems to come after me specifically.

Then again, my experience is with characters who were still pretty low-leveled - the enemies of course are scaled and NPCs can better contend with these lower leveled vampires than, say, the vampires a level 50 might encounter. It truly is best to start from the beginning to do Dawnguard, I guess. :/

I don't think that's necessarily true, either. My first DG character started at level 40, and had no NPC casualties, except for Shadr, at the very beginning (right after leaving Fort DG). He only died, because I had no idea what the bleep was going on, and didn't bother to reload.

I only see one Ancient or Master Vampire, and two thralls, like you said, or on occasion, a death hound or two in the mix. I've been able to take them out quickly, and it hasn't been much of a concern. They are usually right by the city gates, which prompted me to start fast traveling to other locations within the city. I noticed that the number of run-ins with vampires went down drastically after that.

It sounds like bad luck, but that can't really be it, can it?

Alot of skyrim seems to be luck of the draw really. I've had four games, and all of them had varrying issues, or some quests to not launch or to launch like clock work.

What makes me angry about this case is I had fully upgraded steel plate armor on my level 19 character. Now I go back to my level 18 wolf armor -_-.

Here's hoping the guy I killed still has the same gear. Taking a break from it to watch three kingdoms though.

I started DG at a high level and didn't have too much trouble with vampire raids either. The Traveler spawned pretty frequently, but once I knew what to keep an eye out for he was easy enough to spot and take care of.

...of course, it probably didn't hurt that I had the help of two Alik'r warriors on standby at the gates of the city, indefinitely waiting for me to initiate the "In My Time of Need" quest. Turns out those curved swords combined with heavy plot armor are pretty effective against lurking vampires.

Vampires kill people if you sleep in a town? I've only seen the mysterious traveller guy once, hanging around Shor's Stone. I've mostly encountered vamp attacks out in the wild, the only cities I've found them were in Whiterun which is bugged and still has the two guys from Hammerfell lurking around, along with guards, a merc, Meeko, Jordis and me. That ended quickly. The other was in Riften which had thieves, guards, sceolang, Serana and me. Both encounters ended very quickly.

It's rather horrifying when your followers decide to turn on each other and theres nothing you can do. It's even worse when your dog turns on Serana when it was you who accidently hit him.

Travelers kill NPCs? They seem to only ever come after me and leave the NPCs out of it - I must be public enemy number one for the vampires, even if I haven't started DG yet. :o

Hmm I've yet to see the traveler in my game. Its funny how the game and the rules within differ for all of us.

There must be a Traveler camp near Rorikstead and Dragon's Bridge, because I always see them there. I was quite worried when the Master Vampires started being Ancient Vampires, but they're not so bad.

I think the guy Druss is talking about is the actual 'mysterious stranger' or 'mysterious traveler' guy, right? The one that breaks into your house and kills your wife or whatever? The ones we're talking about are just the generic "Traveler" vampire flavor, who you find out in the wild. That other guy is definitely a mystery to me, as I haven't seen him myself, in any playthrough (heck, I've only seen the headless horseman once).

I had a rather fun thing happen last night. I fast traveled back to the castle, and 3 hired thugs, and 2 Dawnguard scouts were waiting for us. We took out the first DG scout, and one of the hired thugs ran over to him and said, "such a waste". None of the hired thugs were marked as enemies. I went up to the top of the tower and killed the second DG scout, and talked to a hired thug, and got the usual, "what do you need?"

I then fast traveled to Redwater Den for a new vampire mission, and they came along with us, still not hostile. I took out the two guards, and a bear attacked, and still, they weren't hostile. I think they would have just kept following and fighting for us if I'd have allowed it.

Instead, I went into vampire lord form. Image IPB

@Bear - Bethesda has succeeded in adding an element to this DLC that none of us anticipated: inconsistent gameplay experience. That stuff is like gold on the black markets! You can't make that stuff up!

Well played, Bethesda. Well played.

Surely, that dastardly dastard cannot defeat Aela the Huntress, right? Right?

Anyone else notice you can take a boat to and from Dawnstar, Solitude, and Windhelm now?

Wactchu talkin' bout Willis and Wilma?

I dunno what this guy gets up to, I just saw him standing in the middle of Shor's Stone one night looking suspicious and not glowing when I used detect life, I approached and he attacked me. So I stabbed him upside the face.  He was wearing a cowl and just staring at everyone sat around the fire. Is the NPC murderer someone different? I didn't even know they got killed if you slept in towns until I saw Bear mentioning it tonight. Now I'm all confused and afraid to sleep.

Dear god, Fireball has got to be the most overpowered spell in the game - Krosis is slaughtering me in nearly one hit. It's ridiculous. D:<

Oh, I remember that one. I was about level 10, I think. The funny thing is, Fireball is only the second projectile fire spell you can learn, but it has splash damage, as you have most likely noticed. I stood in a place where he couldn't hit me but I could hit him and shot firebolts at him for about half an hour or so.

Krosis is hands down the hardest of the Dragon priests to take down.

Heh, I got him - err, well actually a giant and a mammoth got him. I beat his ass down the side of the mountain until we came upon Tumble Arch Pass, where he... actually gave the giant and mammoth quite a fight, believe it or not. He lost in the end, of course - but it just goes to show how many ways there are to eliminate enemies in this game. I love it. >:D

The main thing that makes him so hard, is generally a freak'n high level class dragon is standing there. First time I ran into it lol, I had no idea there were dragon priests, and I figured this dragon must have had a zombie soldier are something. So while keeping up on pots and beating the dragon, once it was died is was like

YUUSSSSS

Then I'm still being hit by fire, so I'm like...wait what. I then turn to fight him, he actully almost killed me, much more hp or at least Def, than that dragon.

Krosis is an animal, I think he's the hardest enemy I've faced in the game. Even defeating him took a good 10 minutes to wear him down and that doesn't include the time facing the dragon just before that.

If you're at least level 20 and have some ebony weapons/armor, you really shouldn't have a problem. He was quite easy for me. I actually had the most trouble with Volsung.
