One time I was walking the roads in Skyrim and a thief ran up to me demanding that I hand over my gold. It gave me 4 options; Persuade, Intimidate, hand over the gold, or say, "I can see that you hold no respect for a Nightingale" lol.
The thief was like, "A nightingale? Oh, I had no idea. I'll be on my way."
xD

Although I am looking forward to trying Dawnguard, I am not thrilled about the random attacks I am hearing about. Sounds like it happens a lot. Like the legion assassins in New Vegas that are just tedius after the first few times, but they keep showing up and pestering you anyway.
I don't think they're as bad as people make them out to be - even at level 8, I managed to take down a Master Vampire and two thralls in Whiterun (with a little help from some NPCs) fairly easily. I have had to reload a few times in case an NPC did die, but as long as you draw the vampire's attention away from them you should be alright. The thralls are easy and the NPCs actually manage to kill them on their own.
You'll worry more about vampires coming after you specifically once you join the Dawnguard (or Dawnguard coming after you if you join the vampires). Neither faction appreciates you joining the other, and will frequently send people out to assassinate you on the roads.
Just remember that vampire attacks on towns will always be near the town entrance - keep a close eye on the front gates of town at night and you should be fine (also beware a lone Master Vampire who will attack you specifically from time to time).

Has there been any word on any expansion that will flesh-out the main plot; i.e., does your choice take the the throne; what happens after? That was strongly hinted at, but the game didn't deliver it.
I'm not really interested in romantic vampires.

Have you been getting the nightly attacks no matter where you are? Like coming out of a Dwemer ruin in the middle of nowhere, oh look more vamps charging at me. It's actually quite comical, they seem to be in a perpetual state of charging at me. Agreed though, it's not as bad as people make out for me either. I just find it hilarious that no matter where I go there's vampires charging to their doom at me.greengoron89 wrote...

As far as an expansion that fleshes out the main plot, no.
And I'd rather they not do that personally, as the main plot wasn't Skyrim's strongest attribute.
It seemed the side stuff was done much better, so I'd rather have more side stuff to do. A LOT more side stuff.

I also very much hate attacks on cities because non-essential NPCs are gone for good. I don't want random events that "shrink" the game world.

It doesn't happen all the time, but when it does it might get on your nerves.

I'm hoping in a patch they'll add a cut off command for when Dawnguard is finished.

I really hope they will fix this or I foresee a lot of loading because of random events in my future.

You know sometimes I think the problem is that Bethesda cant just create "Villager" or "Farmer" NPCs to fill the world.
So they cant just have dragon attacks killing people, or game breaking stuff ensues.
Personally I did like how the Witchers just had stock people with stock names so the game world felt larger, and not like some model village in a museum.
Dont get me wrong I love Skyrim a lot, but often its kind of weird walking into a ``Capitol" city and it has like 30 people in it, and 10 houses.
Agreed, they created an amazing world that you can really lose yourself in, it's just a shame that they have these small issues that break your immersion like that. I think they nailed villages like Riverwood, but as you say cities need alot more life.
The issue with dragons for me is that they really don't feel like a menace at all, they are more like a caged animal that you will go and take care of at some point. Todd did a great job of making them sound awesome in previews, but they really haven't lived up to it.
For every issue like the dragons and cities being a bit barren there's all the brilliant touches like hunters hunting, The Companions clearing out dangerous animals on the roads, Falmer using people to make leather. All those touches of flavour they got right for the most part outshine the ones they haven't mastered yet.

So don't think these guys are like something out of an Anne Rice or what's-her-face-who-wrote-Twilight novel - these guys are hardcore.

Blasphemer! Anne Rice did not write the Twilight novels.

They can get slightly annoying with their constant charging at you from out of nowhere, but its no worse than other enemies and I think adds a different flavour to travelling at night. Yes, there was vampires before but they were nothing really and quite rare. Now you're constantly on guard for vampire attacks when walking the roads at night. A Volkihar at the wrong time could ruin your night completely.

The vampires from DG are far more Nosferatu-like. Actually, I get sort of a Francis Ford Coppola's Dracula vibe (mainly the segment where Keanu Reeves' character is staying at the Count's castle) when you meet Harkon and his crew for the first time.

i dont get anything like that.i need to make a create under a qud moon, while he was birthed from the neither with garlic.because we all know garlic makes things better.specially when vampires are like oh shiz.
i went to whiterun bumped the time to 8pm and let it run to 8am and nothing happened.no vampires, no people dying in a roit.

LOL. Whether you wanna acknowledge it or not, they both feature the same "sexy and seductive" vampire archetype - that was my sole point.
My point is simply that there is a massive quality difference, and Anne Rice vampires aren't all annoying teenagers.
Anyway, World of Darkness certainly has its share of sadistic, inhuman vampires. For example there are the Tzimisce. I loved the pen and paper RPG with all the different clans. It's much more interesting than just 100% silly teeneage vampires or 100% pure evil BLAAARGH vampires.
