Personally, I don't know why they bother adding companions to ARPGs.  If you aren't puppeting the companions (which you can't really do in an ARPG) what do they add to the gameplay?  They just make some missions easier (with the AI, it's often the opposite effect) and in most of these games, the gameplay is easy enough.

Well in New Vegas they give you companion perks, which can be very useful, and you can use them to carry extra loot. Companions are actually very powerful in combat in New Vegas as well. There are also companions who have useful abilities like ED-E who can act as a workbench or reloading bench and can hand out a bit of ammo and help repair your weapon.

In Skyrim, I avoid them like the plague because they can actually die, and I hate that.

They die in FNV hardcore mode, too.

I like followers for the company and because they add roleplay color to the world.

Well I'll get back to you on that when they release the damn DLC for the PC :)

You'll love her, everyone does.

I'm betting she's more of a male obsession.  Image IPB  Though I'm glad people like the writing.  I always liked Beth's writing, but I'm sick of hearing people whine that they can't write good characters.

Also for all the funny headshots.

There is a reason among my friends that we say "BOONE HEADSHOT" instead of BOOM HEADSHOT

BAH.

Girlies like her too. She kicks butt and isn't afraid of anything.

Indeed. I quite dislike hardcore mode myself. I see the appeal, but I just want to take my time and explore.

Anyway I may be male, but I doubt I will be obsessed. Not with her anyway!

PS: DAMN YOU GAMES FOR WINDOWS LIVE! I wrote better software when I was 15. Well, maybe not, but at least nobody else had to use it :)

Obsessed? No.

But you will fancy her as a companion.

GFWL? Where? Bethesda thankfully kicked them to the curb. If that's the price we had to pay for these DLC waits, it's worth it.

No no, I am downloading stuff for my profile for Arkham City while I write. I am getting a bit mad here as it has taken me an hour now and it still hasn't accepted my DLC.

Not Bethesda's fault :)

Good morning, Jack! Image IPB

True, and that was and wasn't my point. I don't think TES is the place for BioWare romances. I like the idea of it, but in this setting, I don't think it really makes sense. Having someone at my house, presumably guarding my stuff, along with my housecarl, while bringing in cash at the same time works just fine. It's not a real relationship, by anyone's standards, but I'd rather spend time adventuring than spending a lot of time nurturing a pixel "relationship".

Oh, wait. I need more coffee. Nevermind me. Image IPB

I couldn't agree more.  Take any IRL celebrity, have them wear an amulet of mara and see how easy it will be to skip courtship and go straight to marriage.  That's what the Dovakiin is, a celebrity.

How you guys reach level 81 is beyond me. My highest level characters is 53.

With the flawed reward system it's impossible, unless you do things outside of your character. Your only reward in this game comes from grinding skills so a warrior would be forced to learn mage/thief skills to keep leveling up. Yet another area of the game that's poorly thought out.

I'm betting you're right. She is well written but not a particularly brilliant character if that makes any sense. It's just that compared to the rest of the characters she is a big step up in that she actually has some personality. The obsessives are probably going for her looks though I'd imagine.

Alot of her smaller actions like using grind stones and things do add a nice extra layer.

And like that the great beast returns to spew bile and misery.
Joy.

I like Serana, but I am having fun revisiting other followers in this pt - the oldies but goodies. It's actually making me appreciate them and Serana more. Crazy, that.

I will play DG for this character soon, I'm sure. I kinda want to try out some of the new spells, since this character is actually a mage. Image IPB

I wouldn't say the companion perks were very useful, but they were okay.  I primarily used them as pack mules and Cazador venom sponges (since they seemed to be immune to it).  Keeping them alive was also a bit of an added challenge on hardcore.  That said, if Obsidian had decided to exclude them from the game I wouldn't have missed them.

Actully no joke I seen someone using exploits in Skyrim for the 360 hit level 6500 (actully was more like 6567) I considerd reporting it but meh, not a majors issue I guess. :/

Does she say:  "Wow look, a cave, wonder what's inside?" right after exiting said cave?

My favorite is still what she says outside Nordic ruins.

And after playing as a vampire, I totally feel where she's coming from when she comments about the sun. It totally messes with your stats and regen!

She repeatedly says something about not minding dark places. She's often too far away for me to hear properly what she's waffling about.

At least us PC guys can do 'moveto player' when followers fall too far behind once again.

Of course, that's only when Dawnguard actually gets released for the PC. CURSE YOU, MICROSOFT!

Skyrim needs a follower that complains about creaking knees. It just doesn't feel like stealth without it!

For those of you who have Dawnguard do you think I should buy it now or later? I've been taking this game really slow- I've spent hours just exploring and smithing. Is this quest going to be something I enjoy further down or should I just satisfy my impatience and get it now?
