For those of you who have Dawnguard do you think I should buy it now or later? I've been taking this game really slow- I've spent hours just exploring and smithing. Is this quest going to be something I enjoy further down or should I just satisfy my impatience and get it now?

It depends on alot of things. What quests you're currently doing like guilds, main quest etc. and what level you are. It's definately well worth a purchase at £13/$20. It's hard to tell you wether you'd enjoy it more now or later though.

Currently playing a High Elf, and noticed these little things in my play thus far:

* Stands slightly higher than other races; able to see on top of shelves and bookcases a little easier, and has a longer stride when walking along with others (eg; following Innkeepers to rooms). Also, I noticed that my female Dragonborn was smaller, and required to break stealth a bit more to gain higher placed items.

* Ability to blend in with Thalmer at parties is overrated; still need to ignore questions and keep walking. Sneaking is easier and more immersive.

* Have only needed to use the activated Power once during low lvls. Orcs and Bretons still maintain more useful status.

All based on personal CC, gameplay, and IMO.

I can't recommend Dawnguard enough, friend - and the sooner you buy it, the better. The main quest is the best questline in the game (surpassing even the DB, no simple feat), and some of the new areas they've added are just breathtaking, Blackreach-level. Also, if you've got a bit of knowledge of TES lore and history, you'll also be in for some major surprises.

Hell, I could go one for paragraphs on end talking nothing but great things about DG and all of the awesome stuff it adds to the game - but I'll shut up now and tell you to just buy the damn thing already. :D

I know it sounds racist, but I can't stand the way they look in this game. I made a couple of high elves and got annoyed.

As for what's most useful, well high elves are definitely the best mages. 5 levels worth of extra mana plus an ability that regens mana faster. They really are superior when it comes to spellcasting. Of course, in the long run it doesn't matter all that much.

I enjoy the Nord, Khajiit and Argonians the most. Best looking and most fun races to me.

Racism doesn't matter that much when the group you're being racist against is fictional. =D

I know not all Altmer are Thalmor, but all Thalmor are Altmer, so I dislike them a bit for that. The only thing they can do better than other races is being a punching bag for my Redguard Dovahkiin with a massive chip on his shoulder.

LOL. I love the people who say they hate the Nords for being racist - I truly hope the irony of such statements is not lost to them, but something tells me that it is.

I don't dislike them really, I just can't seem to make a high elf PC that I can stand. I have this problem with more of the races. Limitation of character creation. I am very perfectionist about my characters, and I ALWAYS find little flaws that annoy my so much that I must start over.

The Thalmor, on the other hand, well let's just say I make a point out of turning them inside out. They really are the ultimate evil in this game.

I'm level 30 but I am not very far into the main quest line. I'm not sure if I'm going to side with the stormcloaks or the imperials yet. Should I get further into- or finish the main quest first?

I don't think it really matters when exactly you do the main quest. By the time I went into the endgame, I already had my Fortify Destruction 100% and Fortify Restoration 100% armor, so I just blew through it.

Though doing the civil war questline first might make things easier at a certain point.

If you get to a certain point in the MQ and haven't finished the Civil War quests, you'll have to organize a peace treaty between the Imperials and the Stormcloaks, and won't be able to do any Civil War quests until after the MQ has been completed. I actually kinda like that quest ("Season Unending", it's called), so I recommend you do it and save the Civil War for later.

I did all the side stuff before I did the main quest(barring Dawnguard and the fact that I did the main quest piecemeal).

I didn't get Season Unending and didn't even know of its existence till months later.

^ who did you side with? I like the stormcloaks but they are all racist bastards and I love the dark elves. I'm considering siding with the imperials- everyone hates them but at least they don't hate elves.

^ Yeah, I had no idea Season Unending existed until much later, but I think that's the best way to handle things. Plus, it's kinda funny to hear Ulfric calling Elenwen a beyotch.

Now that I've experienced that quest for myself, that will be how I choose to handle things in the main quest from now on. I assume eventually you do have to choose one or the other, though, right?

@Kathleen, I've sided with both. The beauty of TES games is the massive grey area. Aside from the Thalmor in Skyrim, I don't really know that anyone else is absolutely evil. It could completely go either way for me, and I do change it up from time to time. My husband gives me crap for siding with Imperials more often than Stormcloaks, so I try to even it out, just to appease him. Such a slave-driver.

I sided with the Imperials. Even easier since I played an Imperial.

My friend got so pissed off when I sent her a pic of the ash pile formerly known as Ulfric on my main mage file.

Best part is seeing Ulfric's dead body in the palace.

Still, I respected the guy. Sovngarde and all that.

Oh, I don't know... maybe the civil war happened?

I can understand the reasons behind siding with either the Empire or the Stormcloaks - though I do find the Imperials on the whole to be far more arrogant and abrasive, even compared to the Stormcloaks.

I think people overreact to the Stormcloaks' distrust of outsiders, which seems to be the main reason people hate them - they forget though that the people of Solitude and other Imperial-controlled holds are pretty much just as prejudiced as those in Windhelm, what with still not allowing Khajiit and Argonians into their precious cities (Solitude allows two Argonians into the city, but the citizens talk trash about them and say they shouldn't be allowed there).

And don't forget all of the s***-talking Tullius does - "You Nords" this, "Damn Nords" that - really, no one has clean hands in the Civil War. Pick the side you think will best be able to deal with the Dominion - that's all that matters at the end of the day.

I wish I could support an anarchy option. I was so upset with Fallout New Vegas because I sided with the NCR thinking it was the moral choice. It wasn't until they started asking me to butcher the Brotherhood that I realized they were no better then the Legion. I don't want to invest in a power that is corrupt. It makes me not want to play that part of the game at all. I generally hate government anyways so having to do chores for a specific power or organization drains all the fun out for me.

Good thing is that you don't have to.  Organize the treaty to proceed along the main quest and leave it that way for as long as you like.

I went with the Stormcloaks because somewhere in the strange recesses of my mind it makes it easier for me to unite the land in defence against the Thalmor. Plus the empire are ******.

I think DG fits in better after the main quest. I don't want to go into spoiler territory but to me it just feels like it suits the story more if you've dealt with the main quest and been down into Falmer territory a fair bit. But then again it is TES so it could really fit in anywhere.

Did you have hooded Thalmor robes?  I went right up to justiciars and talked to them.  You have a Persuade check with the door guard of Elenwen's solarium that's only there for Altmer.

Now that's an idea. :)
