I had Aranea as a follower, switched out for Ilia for a while, then went back to Aranea for the duration. She's awesome. The mages, when leveled and properly equipped, can really be fearsome. She had a battlemage set I crafted for her and she never ran out of mana. Plus, Dunmer. Erandur is the best but he was always complaining about Windhelm being freezing and my Stormcloak is based there, so it felt like I was torturing him.happy_daiz wrote...
Anyway, yeah, Skyrim.
I'm kind of excited to try out Illia! Although I may switch it up, and go with Aranea. I kinda miss having a Dunmer in my posse, and I've never used her as a follower, either.
Hopefully I won't have the "Great Disappearing Follower" sitcom playing in this playthrough.
Ilia's setup did not strike me as quite so deadly, plus she had that annoying thing where she wanted to use whatever crap hunting bow I handed her rather than her spells. Who knows. Follower AI is really capricious. I'm using Vilkas right now but he seems to have good tactics. I gave him a Paralyze staff, drainbow and Wuuthrad. In a group he will start off by shooting a couple paralysis blasts, then firing off some arrows and switching to his axe when enemies close- all very proper.

I know. It sucks. They haven't even announced a release date. Apparently their pact with the devil included a vow of silence, too.The Hierophant wrote...

The temptation to play Skyrim right now is ridiculous, but it will ruin that magical moment of abstaining from said game for months just to experience the new adventure fresh.Addai67 wrote...

But yes, waiting for Dawnguard to get released for the PC gaming master race is excruciating.

Funny story - I got a quest called "Rescue" from one of the guys at Fort Dawnguard, where a Master Vampire kidnaps a friend of yours - in this case, Lydia got kidnapped. So I stormed the vampire's hideout, laid the beatdown on that bastard, and saved my favorite passive-aggressive Housecarl - and you know what she said?
"I knew you'd come for me, my love!"
Not even married to the girl, and she just blurts that out - combine that with her staying in my room all the time, and I'm beginning to think someone has a secret obsession with the Dovahkiin. Now I'm worried I'll stumble upon some secret shrine to me in Breezehome or something. O_o
*Very minor spoilers here too*

Well now I'm jealous. I had to rescue Adrianne Avenicci (who for some reason seems to be the target of all vampire mischief ever for me). All she said was, "You came for me? How did you even know I was here?" Why you no love me Adrianne??
I'm currently stuck on one of the other Dawnguard side missions. Gunmar gave me a quest to "kill a vampire masquerading as a common citizen." Sounds easy enough. I tracked the "bard" down and talked to him a bit. He claimed to have no idea what I was talking about when I expressed my suspicions.
So I did what any good vampire hunter would do and hit him in the face with a ball of sun fire. But his skin didn't melt away in response. Not even a little bit. The dude was completely unperturbed by it and the six or seven successive sunlight explosions that followed. After hitting him enough times to induce melanoma, I remembered my alteration training. Casting the Detect Dead spell confirmed that he wasn't actually dead. Huh.
There doesn't seem to be any contingency for this turn of events. Is it a glitch? Do I murder him anyway? I don't know...

Stan came in with the win. Now that THAT's over with,
I should probably do those quests to hunt down Master Vampires.

^ Are you sure it's definately him? Murder him anyway, it will stop him ever becoming a vampire. So really you're doing him a favour...
I hadn't thought of detect dead, I've been using detect life to find them.

You're probably right though. I suppose pre-emptive murder is the only way to be sure. And if I'm wrong it's only one less bard in the world, not much to lose sleep over, right?

Actually I've noticed that quest markers become a bit messed up when I leave Fort Dawnguard without fast travelling. Anytime I walk out of Dayspring Canyon my quest marker always points towards the Riften gates, even when in Riften. Perhaps you're suffering something similar? You could try fast traveling somewhere nearby and see if it changes, its been fixing it for me.

My wife (and three other people I've turned) are also supposed to be vampires, but they display none of the signs. Maybe it's a bug.wickedgoodreed wrote...
Yeah, I'm pretty sure it's him. The quest marker above his head sort of gives it away.

Where do your dragonborn's call home? What place is where they put their feet up and relax?
For my main its Breezehome.
But my other characters have Jorvasker (Orc), the College (Altmer), Windhelm (Nord), or Solitude (Khajiit)

The rest get no attention, though the one in Markarth has a beautiful view. Every time I find myself in Markarth I just go to the balcony and enjoy the surroundings.
And then jump all the way down before continuing on my merry way.

Actually both are gorgeous. With Lush Grass and Pure Waters mods, the cabin is beautiful. I did disable those two mods, though, because since the last patch my game has been slower and crashy.

Refute as you wish, but your information is false and incorrect.
You and yrkoon(whatever his name is) just have a special copy of the game that works differently than everyone else's. Explain to me why in your game you gain experience differently than my copy of the game, the Skyrim wiki, and the slew of guides out there.
Seems like I have such a "bugged" copy as well.

Has anyone found a mod home they like? I am getting to like both the Lakeside Cabin and Grey Ledge Manor. The latter is gorgeous.

I've settled into Dovahkiin Hideout. It's not pretty or anything like that, but it is very functional. Weapons racks, huge bedroom, storage chests, shield racks, huge table spaces, etc. I've tried out a bunch of house mods and have uninstalled just about all of them but DH. I've also upgraded Breezehome several different times and have got it just about where I want it as well. There are some excellent mods for that.
I do still have a mod home in Riverwood called "Grilli's Home Riverwood v1.3." It's an interesting home as well. I think it's more of a guy's mod with several female NPCs loitering about, but they are all companion-able (voiced from in-game assets), but like I said, the home is very interesting.
Although it's been out for a while, DH is still a very good and functional home mod. One of the more functional things about it is that you can quick travel from anywhere directly to it indoors, and there are doors within the hideout that lead to all the vanilla homes, once you've unlocked them.
EDIT: Forgot to mention Alchemy, Enchanting and Smithing are all self-contained within the interior as well with good storage for each activity.

On my current character, one of the Companion radiant quests had me beating up on some guy I'd never heard of. Turns out it was the One Handed trainer down there. lol He had mega incredible HP and dragonbone armor, there was no way I was going to beat him. I had to reload and get a different quest.

I have never explored Blackreach much at all; simply take the short route to get the Elder Scroll as a rule. But today, I stopped by the base of the tower for a view, and thought I saw a campfire across the water. Using Throw Voice to see what was there, I had three red blips appear on the compass, and finally saw Falmer wandering about the water's edge.
Taking the opp, I took down the one casting a Ward -never gets old seeing a mage attempting to ward away a well fired arrow - and followed another one out of LOS into the water; waiting for him to reappear, but nothing. I ook a closer look; ready with a notched arrow, and figured the Falmer must still be in the water. But a closer look at the compass showed the red blip had moved quickly around my flank, and was now....
... RIGHT BEHIND ME!!!
Now, this Falmer still could not see the Dragonborn although being right in her face, and a composed Dragonborn could have impaled him without much bother. But the the thing is; I as the Player was not composed; had jumped so bad that I had fired the notched arrow straight up into the cavern, thus allowing the Falmer to know of my prescense, and he was starting to flail at me with that nasty sword. And perhaps the Dragonborn could have blocked or retalliated under better conditions, but i was laughing so hard I could not move the mouse correctly. Basically watched as a Falmer beat the poor lass to death; laughing the entire time!
Reload, and the lesson learned is that some of that water at that location is only knee deep; swimming not required.
Also, just a creepty thought: How do Falmer storage locks actually work, and what part of the Chaurus did they used to be?
