I'm gonna try to get the Ulfric to give up The Pale in Season Unending - I can't kill Brina Merilis or Horik Halfhand, but I think they get exiled after you take back The Pale once the war is back on. All I know is that I want them out of Dawnstar, permanently - I want to make it clear to these louts that if you support the Empire, you're an enemy of the state and will be dealt with as such.

I don't think that's one of your choices.

This is a spoiler I guess:

When I did Season Unending as a 'cloak, Tullius starts out demanding the Rift and then you have to decide between Morthal and the Reach as the trade-off.  Ulfric wants the Reach.  IIRC as a neutral, the choices were Winterhold vs. Riften for Morthal vs. the Reach.

@LPPrince - How can Vignar possibly die? He's marked as an essential NPC.

@Addai - According to UESP, you can bargain all Holds except for Whiterun, but you have to meet certain conditions for some of them to be available for bargaining.

Maybe he's essential until he becomes jarl? I did hear that Olfina takes over if he dies, so that must be possible.

Hehehehe.

So I just ran across some Thalmor on the road.
As a werewolf

Actually how does the werewolf perk tree work exactly?

As a werewolf you can feed on people. The more people you feed on, the more you level up in the Werewolf Perk Tree and acquire more perks.

Feeding on a humanoid target nets 30 seconds of extra time as a werewolf, and there's a perk that lets you feed on creatures as well which will net you 15 extra seconds per feeding.

Keep feeding, keep leveling up the tree.

I dunno, I like the Imperial Jarls much better...well, at least the ones that get the position when/if the Stormcloaks are removed.

I always felt terrible seeing Idgrod in the basement of the Blue Palace. And Balgruuf was obviously siding with the Imperials/Emperor. All you had to do was ask him a question about the war, and he basically said as much. Or walk into the Palace of the Kings in Windhelm - Ulfric and his cronie were always (literally, always) talking about Balgruuf, and taking his city. If that doesn't make it clear, I don't know what else is necessary.

It's clear as day that Balgruuf isn't fond of Ulfric or his rebellion. He was simply waiting for Ulfric to openly declare his intention of taking Whiterun before making his allegance to the Empire official.

As for the Jarls, I never really cared for any of them. The only important npcs that I truly like is Legate Rilke and she's probably the main reason I'd ever side with the Empire.

Still, the fact that the civil war in Skyrim erupted in the first place is the testament to how much of an idiot the Emperor is. Playing right into Thalmor hands and antagonizing almost half of his remaining provinces into leaving the Empire..

Ah yes, those guys. I was just about to see an encounter with them trying to kidnap a redguard when a dragon swooped in and killed everyone. It's seriously annoying when that happens. Dragons really are the cliffracers of Skyrim.

Anyway over 1000 hours played? I can't keep up with that. Wish I had more free time.

Being unemployed and homebound helps; cannot recommend it....

I also prefer the Imperial reps and results, plus meeting Ulric in Sovngarde and hearing him recite hindsighted thoiughts is quite informative.

You know...people....get over it.
Its just a goat.

One stupid useless goat.
A dragon is attacking and you get pissed off about ONE SINGLE GOAT!

Ah, sorry. I am swearing a bit these days about my lack of time, don't mind me.

I didn't know you'd meet him there. That sounds like it's worth a try.

I've also never tried the negotiations AFTER finishing the civil war quests. I suppose it's just done by defaul, or am I wrong?

^ I don't think you can have the negotiations after you've completed the civil war quests. Half of the people that would be in the meeting would already be dead. Image IPB

The Season Unending / negotiations at High Hrothgar only happens if you get to a certain point in the MQ, and haven't chosen a side. I didn't even know that option existed until my 2nd or 3rd playthrough.

Ulfric regrets that he started the Civil War amidst the Dragon Crisis - it has nothing to do with the Empire or the Thalmor, both of which he still hates and would've still warred against would that the dragons not appeared.

Rikke will also appear in Sovngarde if you side with the Stormcloaks, and express similar feelings - Alduin was using the Civil War to feed his power, and both the Imperials and Stormcloaks in Sovngarde lament that they ever fought each other at all.

^ Malkoran was doing the same thing as Aldiun - living off the souls of the dead - with all of those desecrated corpses littering Meridia's temple. I'm surprised he wasn't a bigger character...Malkoran, the Human World Eater, or something. OK, I'm just making stuff up. Heh.

That is such a creepy quest. What is it about black fog/smoke, anyway, that can make a location so shiver-worthy?

Doing the Dark Brotherhood quests for the first time. For the time being, I consider Cicero quite amusing. I imagine it gets old after a while though.

I think it's a brilliant touch how the cart side quest ties into the DB plot. When you first meet him out on the road, you kinda know there's something not quite right about the little fellow, but I helped him out anyway. Now I know who his sweet mother is :)

Skyrim is a brutal place - I just went through Alftand again and examined the little torture shack the Falmer have down near the bottom of the tower. There's a defleshed skeleton, a tanning rack, and several pieces of "leather" laying around - pretty gruesome, and it looks like they were getting ready to do the same thing with a High Elf corpse sitting on an "operating table."

Not to mention the numerous vampire and necromancer dens with human body parts strewn all over the place (and often placed on dinner tables with other food and drink - half the goddamn population of this game must be cannibals). Oh, and there's a troll den called Darkshade east of Whiterun - I was knee deep in bones and corpses when I walked in there.

Not to mention that necrophiliac in Yngvild - nothing is too depraved for the denizens in Skyrim, it seems.

I don't think he had a choice. The prophecy did state that Alduin would return when the sons and daughters of Skyrim fought each other.

Yeah Yngvild's cave was excellent. I didn't read his journal the first time around, and what a mistake that was. Really fun stuff.

The part about the leather, well, it seems like that's how the falmer make their little huts. Somewhere in this thread it is also mentioned that the falmer in Dawnguard have a similar leather factory, this time with a scroll of healing lying around, suggesting they're repeatedly harvesting the same people. Pretty grim!

Well, the Thalmor also steered him into starting the Civil War in the first place, and play both sides of the conflict to keep Skyrim in a perpetual state of turmoil. So I guess they're as much a part of the prophecy as the Stormcloaks and the Empire are.

Great questline, second only to the thieves guild imo.  And yeah he does get old after a while but no more than any npc spouting the same lines after the quest is done.

^ Cicero is one of my favorite followers, once he becomes available. His lines are quite amusing, indeed. He is one of the best stealth followers, and he's pretty competent with 1-handed weapons. His dialogue in each city is pretty good (especially Riften), and he likes to tell stories. My only problem with him is that he does the Barbas-knock-your-butt-off-cliffs thing. Unless that's been fixed since I tried it last.

In my playthrough I didn't run into him prior to the questline. Guess I just never saw him.

Ugh, I just can't seem to make a winning character in this game - I focused my skillset into a smaller number of skills, but my character is failing hard (perhaps even harder than my last one). Not doing enough damage and not able to take enough of it either - I suspect switching back to one-handed weapons is to blame for the former.

I need to figure this crap out and try to come up with a winning formula, because so far my characters are doing terribly.
