Well, dual-wielding does tons of damage, particularly if you grab the power-attack perks. The bonus to attack speed is also brilliant.

The rest really is just up to your gear and your skill level in the armor/attack skill in question.

Ugh, I just can't seem to make a winning character in this game - I focused my skillset into a smaller number of skills, but my character is failing hard (perhaps even harder than my last one). Not doing enough damage and not able to take enough of it either - I suspect switching back to one-handed weapons is to blame for the former.

I need to figure this crap out and try to come up with a winning formula, because so far my characters are doing terribly.

lol what skill level are you playing at? Might not be "cool" but lower it in bad parts, rise it up in hard parts.

Also nah one handed weapons are good if you get the right perks. I pretty much slaughter most things, THOUGH if you pick one handed build up your stamina, on my DW I tend to stand HP to Stam, 2-1. Then when I hit 220 in HP, and 160 in Stamina, I switch to 1-1. and start to even them out by end game so I have massive stamina reserves, you can't use magic with a one handed weapon unless you want the weapon to be the back up. One handed even with the stamina reduction perks are stamina heavy given the speed of attack.

Yeah, I really like dual-wielding.

Power swinging a pair of enchanted ebony axes that do 240-260 range damage (compounded by enchantment damage)...well...you know the math. Sure you're exposed, but opponents don't last long against that kind of damage output.

For those that want to try it out, but aren't so sure, it's definitely more fun than humans should be allowed against your garden variety baddies. But I would only recommend dual wielding against mages, necros and such, only if you have fairly high resistances built up. Otherwise (me at least) they usually just wear me out at lower levels. In such cases, I normally just go down to a single axe and tuck in behind a shield with elemental protection perked on.

But yeah, I'm a fan of dual wielding in Skyrim and have never been much of a fan of it in any other game I've attempted in. Not to mention the dual wield sprint is pretty damn cool! Which brings me to an Off topic point I've been thinking about recently: ***I really, really wish I could dual wield Machete Gladius' in New Vegas; there's gotta be a mod for that...right?***End Off-topic.

You can use the slow time shout against mages or you know, fus-ro-dah and charge them. That's what I did with my dual-wielder.

Heh, I just blew two Frost Trolls off a cliff with Unrelenting Force - now that was fun.

Unfortunately, they landed in water at the bottom of the cliff, then climbed back up to enact revenge - only for me to Fus Ro Dah them off the staircase and for them to land on rocks this time. Glorious.

Anyway, I'm gonna stick to this character - I've come too far to start over now. I'll see what I can do to make him stronger and less squishy - perhaps grind Smithing a bit and upgrade his equipment to a higher tier.

Yep, I've discovered that dual wielding is all about the power attacks. My huntress dual wields when archery fails. It can be quite satisfying to hit the power attack button and watch her hack a Thalmor justiciar's face off.

@greengoron: On my Stormcloak game, I walked the 7000 steps with Ulfric and Galmar back towards Windhelm. It was a lot of fun and a great roleplay. Ulfric Fus Ro Dah'ed a bear and a troll off the side of the mountain. Both times the red dot disappeared after a moment, and I found their corpses further down, dead from the fall. I guess we got lucky there. Outside Ivarstead, we came on a Thalmor patrol. Huhuhu! That was fun. And again, some great roleplay. Unfortunately at one intersection, Galmar walked off in the wrong direction, towards Riften, and Ulfric just stopped and wouldn't move at all. So that was the end of that little exercise.

I was following them.  ^_^

There is an Ulfric follower mod, though.

Ah, you mean when they travel to High Hrothgar for Season Unending? That sounds glorious - I just might do that myself.

Hey look Skyrim is only 39.99 right now.
Valve and Bethesda must not value that IP or something....

Yes, everyone walks the distance as far as I can tell.  For a while we were tailing Delphine til we lost her.

Honeyside is the house I wind up purchasing the most. Great house for an alchemist with all the recipes you get, the easy fishing, dragonflys always buzzing around, and you get a lot of ingredients from the initial purpose.

Yep.  All true, except   Breezehome is the only house who's alchemy table has a sachel to store your ingredients in.   As "meh": and "so what?" as that sounds, it ends up being the deciding factor  (for me at least) later on when Alchemy becomes a major part of my build and I'm carrying around 150 Glowing mushrooms and 200 salt piles.  Consequently,  I usually find myself going there, instead of Honeyside when I'm focussed on alchemy, even though Both Honeyside and Proudspire manor  initially contain tons upon tons more recipies and ingredients when you buy them..

Delphine - now there's an NPC I'd love to add to my hit list. I helped her rebuild her pathetic order of pretenders, and she turns around and stabs me in the back because I won't kill Paarthurnax, who is the sole reason mankind exists today.

And y'know, when I think about it, maybe it has nothing to do with Paarthurnax - maybe the Blades just want the Greybeards out of the picture, as without Paarthurnax the Way of the Voice can no longer be taught and the order will ultimately go extinct.

I mean, they certainly bear the Greybeards no love, and vice versa. Screw the Blades, I say.

Lets just see how she does deep in Forsworn territory.
Without a reliable means of supply.
With at most five people.
IN a not very defensible place.

Yeah good luck with that.

I don't even think it has anything to do with the Blades. It's JUST Delphine. She's a douchebag from the second you meet her. In Riverwood the first thing she says to you is: "So you're the one who's been snooping around" Then in Whiterun she says, in the most condescending way<:"I have nothing to say to you". My Orc would have killed her right then and there, had she not been pre-coded as essential. Which is a great irony from the plot's point of view. There's nothing essential about Delphine's existancxe in Skyrim.

Hmph, the Forsworn - I wish you had the option to go and wipe them all out. When Thongvor calls upon Ulfric to send troops in to deal with those pests, I want to lead those troops into battle. We will purge The Reach of those vermin once and for all! >:D

...or we will in my head canon, anyway.

I really grew to dislike her a lot.

I mean she makes you around like a lap dog and treats you like she is above you.
Compared to that the Greybeards are like a cool old prof in philosophy not so much lecturing you, but enlightening you.

Still I love to think that she sits there saying "ANY DAY KNOW THAT DRAGON WILL DIE AND MY SERVANT WILL CRAWL BACK HERE!"
"Any day now"
"annnnnnyyyyy ddddddddddaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyy NOW"

STFU and die you insufferable bag.

I remember the duel wielding Forsworn as being a**holes. The damage they can dish out is ridiculous, and they sneak up on me from out of nowhere. D@mn i want to play Skyrim, but i got to hold out until Dawnguard is released for the pc/ps3.

The moment i found Delphine's note instead of the horn, i knew i wasn't going to like her.

Breezehome's one redeeming feature is the chest next to the alchemy table =]

Honeyside has the second shortest storage to alchemy table though.  Put your ingredients in the barrel right next to the stairs. When you make potions, just drop down the stairs (don't walk) and the alchemy table is only a couple feet away.  Honeyside's main inconvenience is that there is no smetler in Riften...something it shares with Proudspire (how is there no smelter in the capital city?).

Smithing, enchantment, and reaching the magic resistance cap will fix most of your characters problems in this game. Avoid wasting points on perks that are broken or only apply in certain rare situations(most of the weapon specializations). My most effective build was the Nord warrior/thief...two handed sword, light armor, plus a dagger for x30 backstabs. I don't dual wield on this game because it's a pain in the rear...the hotkey system is atrocious. Dual wield tends to get boring fast too because you only do two things...a scissor attack or twirl like a ballerina attack.

Sadly that's true. Because of the unbalanced way the armor and resistances work in this game, you'll need to be at the cap or damn near it to have a playable character at higher levels. Well that or a master sneaker or mage. The scaling of how much damage gets reduced by armor is really weird and with ratings of 200-400 your protection will be very poor anyways. It almost seems like the last points before the cap are more important then the first 200 or so.

Hmm... well, I upgraded my gear a bit and I seem to be doing somewhat better now, at least - I also used a nifty little trick with Grelka in Riften: I paid her to train my Light Armor (which was very expensive), then turned around and sold a bunch of junk jewelry and other crap I'd accumulated and got all of my money back. I'll try to do that more often when I'm bursting at the seams with treasure and need to dump it all in one go.
