Why so glum? For the races of Tamriel the trollage would be unbearable, but for us players we can join in on the festivities.greengoron89 wrote...

Wouldn't they be outnumbered though?
I mean four thousand years for the populations of Tamriel to grow is a large boost.
And the Falmer as well.

It's their collective ingenuity, and deviousness that would threaten Tamriel, plus it's all around weakened from the Great War. If they came back that would mean they somehow succeeded in their god i am stunt that led to their disappearance at Red Mountain.legion999 wrote...

That have gear that can last for ages in perfect order, and most terrifying of all they messed with the fabric of reality itself.
They even built vessels that could freaking FLY, control the weather, harness an Elder Scrolls, and use the energy from stars to search the world.
They are a level far beyond anyone else.

There is some suggestion in Skyrim that the Thalmor are funding the An-Xileel, who now run Black Marsh. You can overhear a conversation between Erikur and his mage about intercepting a shipment of elven weapons going from Alinor to Black Marsh (actually the mage says "daedric" but the subtitles read "elven," so bit of a flub there). The Hierophant wrote...
Lore-wise, did the Black Marsh show preference or side with anyone yet? If they didn't then i consider them as a wild card in the Thalmor conflict.Nashiktal wrote...
Eh. The Argonians are going to rule the world anyways. Might as well let the blades stuck in their old ways die.
I think the Hist is probably just glad to take donations but isn't going to throw in with anyone. They're for themselves.
As for the Dwemer, the devs have all but said that apart from some stragglers who might have escaped the transformation, they are really gone and not coming back- at least not in their past forms. They either became the skin of the Numidium, or they crumbled into dust, take your pick. Of course, the devs could change their minds. Tamriel is a wacky place. I would think that a more likely wild card in the fight against the Dominion are the Psijics.

I could actually see the Dwemer helping the Empire.

Plus not so on populations. Between wars, failing infrastructure (as far back as Morrowwind easily if not more) substance farming, displacement, Red mountain, and various other events, I suspect the population is much smaller.
When bad torubles happen on our world populations tend to fall, heavily. I suspect its the same for them.

I can't believe i forgot about the Psijic order, interesting though about the weapon shipments from Alinor to Black Marsh. Sadly the human's best bet is to paint someone gold, dye his hair white, wear Aldmeri fatigues, and have him pee on a hist tree in plain sight of the general Argonian populace while shouting death to the Black Marsh. It's a suicide mission, but whoever does it regardless if they survive their family will be made nobility.Addai67 wrote...

The problem is that Tamriel has not yet hit the Industrial Era so its population is still not going to be very large.
Until you have rapid transportation, mechanized farming, and modern science your population will not grow very quickly.

True, also If the Akaviri somehow found out about the Empire being weakened, they would easily take half of Cyrodil.Confess-A-Bear wrote...

Kind of lame, without an import feature it makes it kind of annoying in TES.
No uhm...the really important....person....left over there and was never seen again!
Say what you want but having an import feature is something that is nice in games.

Ehh that chart can't be taken fully at face value, the "jump" is debateable, considering Chinese population claims dispute it in some area's, the fact western europe might have serriously screwed up in adding a few hundred years or taking away a few hundred, and many states had poor record keeping.
But it does highlight the truth of a jump in populations around then.. Of course the main debate now is how large it is, and when it might nose dive. Actully in modern time with the World Wars and such we seen significant drop offs, the survivors just breed like rabbits so it has no long term impact.

Would that even be possible? I thought they managed to fry themselves with magic when messing with that giant robot thing?

The industrial period didn't cost them much at all really. I mean yeah millions might have died, but millions more stood ready to take up the slack and to be born. It was a...growing pain.
Tamerial I feel is like in the USSR break up stage. When the USSR fell in 91 Millions died or were misplaced. Russia however seems to the shock of some western observers and opinions of the time to finally be recovering. Problem is, no nation in TES short of the Summerset Isles has had any time to catch a breath. and they have lost so much, they can't rebuild. I mean look at skyrim. Its like no one there knows how to repair crap.
Its sorta how when the Roman Empire went bust. So many things they built just crashed down. Heck it took the English a few hundred years to figure out how to improve the sewers in London, to the point that waste was floating in the streets. Thats about how it is for them I suspect. Which makes me think populations are suffering there, not growing.

LOL The Hist will do what it will do. I would be surprised if they bestir themselves at all unless the Thalmor try something against Black Marsh itself, or unless the current regime is overthrown somehow and Argonians start looking outward again for some reason. I don't think anybody can say. In The Infernal City, a Hist which may have been a rogue decided to purge the entire population of Lilmoth and let the zombified corpses be used to help Umbriel get to the Imperial City. Why they did this... your guess is as good as mine. (edit- I mean, I can understand the purge, as Lilmoth was imperialized. I don't understand why they would let the zombies be used as an army far from Black Marsh. It may be that at that point, the "outcasts" didn't matter any more and weren't the Hist's concern.)The Hierophant wrote...

I saw someone say that Sheogorath wouldn't like an attack on Black Marsh? Is there some connection between Sheo and the Argonians?

A lot of that conventional wisdom is going by the wayside. London was a thriving city in post-Roman times, it just wasn't a Roman city. In the written records, heavily Romanized, the latter was all that counts. But the physical artifacts tell a different story, i.e. there was no "Dark Age" in Europe where everyone was miserable and half-dead.Confess-A-Bear wrote...

I do think Tamriel is in for a dark time, but what else is new.

If I wanted to make a character specialized in Smithing, Alchemy and Enchanting, how should I arrange the perks? Also with which tree should I start, I'd say alchemy but I don't know if starting with enchanting is best.
I'd start with smithing.
Smithing: Either go left or right through the tree. With Dawnguard, Dragonbone will become the ultimate in weaponry. Until then, Daedric weapons are best. The best LIGHT armor is Dragonscale, and the best HEAVY armor is Daedric. Draw your own conclusions about which path is best for you. I like heavy personally, and it's a tremendous help that you get Dwarven smithing as it's a really good way to level smithing.
Alchemy: I pick all the perks that provide bonuses for beneficial potions first. If it's to max out your gear, those perks are all you need and it's entirely obvious what you should pick.
Enchanting: The middle path is where you want to go. Max out the first skill and go up the middle until you reach the double enchantment perk. The left and right paths are OK, but those can wait.

People are focused on war, and survival, not upon great technological leaps.
Look at Skyrim.
There are no cities or forts that dont look a thousand years old.
Also Addai is right, Dark Ages is just a term that Rome centered historians love using.
There was no dark age in the Middle East, and many thinkers did continue.
They just were not united under on banner anymore.
