I haven't used it that much because I haven't finished my nightblade's game, but Illusion was a barrel of laughs. Get up on a rock, cast Frenzy and watch the follies. You can build it up pretty fast by casting Muffle everywhere.

I killed Cicero on my first playthrough because.... well, because everyone in the game tells you to.

Second playthrough I was thinking more, and decided to spare him because I'm pretty sure the Nightmother prefers that he live.

Sorry to deviate from the discussion at hand, but what are peoples' thoughts on Illusion magic? I'm gonna play a vampire mage character and I wanna know if it's worth pursuing as a skill.

This was my Dunmer vampire build

The only thing I had no use for in the illusion tree was the master illusion perk.

I had Lucien summoned in my first playthrough.  He said that he will help me kill Cicero but he knows that the dread father doesn't want Cicero dead.  So I let him go.  Now I just alternate between choices since there's really no consequence.

I kill him everytime because he is annoying, crazy, annoying, unreliable, annoying, unnecessary, annoying, cowardly, and annoying.

Has anyone heard anything - even a rumor - of a PC date release for Dawnguard...ideally it is just 3 days away, right?

My assassin killed Cicero. The way she figured, if Cicero's obvious mental instability was how the Night Mother rewarded her most loyal care taker, then she'd rather have as little to do with them both as possible.

Of course, the quest line pretty much forces you to "embrace" your new role anyway, but I wasn't aware of that at the time.

I never kill Cicero. Not even in my first playthrough. I had Lucien LaChance with me, thankfully, who stopped me from making that choice. I wish I could remember exactly what he said, but he mentioned something to the effect that killing Cicero wouldn't make Sithis happy.

As a stealth follower, he's fantastic...except when he runs into you, and pushes you off ledges and cliffs. Sometimes I wonder if that's him trying to get back at you for being the Listener. Hmm.

His stories do get tiresome after a while, though.

In regard to the story pushing you in certain directions, I was happy to figure out the other way to do the Blood on the Ice quest, that doesn't require two parts (talking to Wuunferth when the game tells you to talk to Jorleif to arrest Wuunferth). There are lots of instances of feeling railroaded if you're not slowing down enough to think of other ways to go about it.

And btw...I am still finding more Khajiit in my game. In one small stretch of road, I ran into M'aiq the Liar, who was standing by a generic "Khajiit" that attacked us. Very soon after, we found a dead Khajiit, next to a dead Alchemist. Of course, right then, a dead Hagraven fell from the sky, so who knows. Uncle Sheo is having fun with me again, I see.

There really is no way to avoid having to join the Nightingales and pledge yourself to Nocturnal in the TG questline - I thought about grabbing the Skeleton Key and running, but you already take the oath before you even confront Mercer, so you're doomed to serve Nocturnal no matter what (short of just avoiding the entire questline).

I'll just as soon leave the TG to wallow in their sad state tbh - my next game will be marked by weakening the Black-Briar family, and not joining the Thieves Guild is one of the steps in that plan. Maven will find herself losing Goldenglow Estate, unable to acquire Honningbrew Meadery, having no access to the Dark Brotherhood's services, broken communication lines with the Empire, losing her prized breeding horse (and all of the thugs protecting it), having mead smuggled out of her meadery, and as a final nail in the coffin, losing two of her heirs.

It will minimize her influence in Riften while maximizing my own, where I shall become Thane and represent the interests of Clan Volkihar. It will be glorious.

(I've had this new character's "plans" written down for a while now, and I'll eventually put him to action once I come up with a name and figure out which skills and perks I want to take)

Also, I at least am gonna take Muffle and Invisibility for my character - it will effectively render most of the Sneak perk tree useless, allowing me to allocate the points elsewhere.

I have yet to have dead creatures fall out of the sky from Uncle Sheo and have obtained (and used) his staff on many occasions. Is there something particular we have to do? Ir is Uncle Sheo mad at me for always gutting the annoying jester!

Yeah, I really should look into a mod that improves the AI and speech for followers, even if I only use the ones forced into play. These temp pains in the rear guard are not one of the better selling features of the game.

Maybe it is because I finally am playing a Khajiit, but calling the Dragonborn "a cat" is not the best diplomatic choice to say to someone that slays dragons for fuel. And when you have a stealth archer, running ahead of them into melee is just asking for a pointy reminder to stay put in back.

I replayed a could of dungeons yesterday with such followers. There is one with a woman that offers to share the fortune if you do everything for her, then scolds and orders you around the entire time (but at least she stays back). Plus her greed tteaches a lesson in patience.

And the other one kept rushing in so often that I finally let her go, summoned an Elemental to help her against the Dragon Priest, then simply shut the door. OK; I relented and reloaded, but only because it trashes the room too much for looting purposes.

*sigh*

Followers should do just that.....

I´ve read rumors it has been postponed to September, but really nothing official. I hope it will be out within a few days.

There are some bugs in Dawnguard that Bethesda might be trying to sort out - and they may also be working on Patch 1.7 while they're at it, to make sure everyone gets the bug fixes (both with Dawnguard and in the vanilla game as well, I hope). So it might end up being worth any extra wait.

I think Uncle Sheo is telling me that I need to come get the Wabbajack. Image IPB I don't have it yet in this playthrough. I have to admit, though, the way this game is going, I'm a little worried that he's going to start throwing down more dead Khajiit.

Ugh, Dawnguard brought some really annoying bugs to the Thieves Guild - mostly with Delvin and Vex's conversations. After a certain period of time, it's like the game has forgotten that you've already done a zillion things for each of them, and it forces you to replay their "I handle the (fill in the blank jobs)..." and "Tell me more about the shill jobs..." dialogue. Then after each special city quest, the dialogue for the previous special quests you already did are visible. The first few times it happened, I was able to cash in on them each time, which was nice.

I'm doing the Mercer Frey Blindsighted quest (Irkngthand) right now, and there is a part of the ruin that's dang near unplayable. That area was always buggy, but I'm sad that it's still that way.

That seems plausible. It really seems to affect the stability of the game and thats just on xbox. Imagine what its doing to the PC version with mods. I had over 10 crashes during DG and none before it in vanilla Skyrim.

Nope.  No news, but I can assure you it's not three days away.  Steam only releases DLC on Tuesdays.  So if it doesn't come out tomorrow, then  the next possibility is:   Tuesday July 30th.  Or   Tuesday August 7, Or Tuesday August 14th....etc.

Miracle patches don't exist.  If anything new patches by Bethesda have a funny way of introducing more bugs.  There is no good reason PC users have to wait long for Dawnguard after the 30 days have passed.

We all know it's going to be buggy- it's the nature of the beast. The thing with the PC version is that the community can fix the bugs faster than Bethesda can. They should just release it. I assume Microsoft put a gag on them as part of their bleeping"exclusive" deal. So funny that Microsoft punishes PC players when we're all using their OS. That isn't enough cash for them, apparently. If they think this incentivizes people to buy their console, they can DIAF.

Correct!  The deal was that we wait 30 days for the Xbox exclusive.

They just announced release notes on the 1.7 update.  There's a beta available on Steam.  I probably won't get the beta, because it's pretty much all Kinect crap.... who the frak cares about that... I hate that they have to spend so much time fiddling with technology that most players won't use.  What a waste of time.

Anyway, here's what's in the patch:

  • General memory and stability optimizations
  • Fixed crash related to new water shaders
  • Fixed rare crash related to dragon landings
  • Fixed logic error with loading screens from add-ons (Xbox 360)
  • Using vampiric grip and swimming no longer prevents swimming animation from playing afterwards
  • Improved recognition with Kinect voice commands (Xbox 360)
  • Kinect-enabled dragon language shouts for French, German, Italian and Spanish work properly (Xbox 360)
  • Fixed issue with Dawnguard Kinect-enabled dragon shouts for French, German, Italian and Spanish (Xbox 360)
  • Fixed issue with Dawnguard Kinect-enabled dragon shouts for French, German, Italian and Spanish (Xbox 360)

No mention of fixing Dawnguard stuff, but they're fixing Kinect stuff? Ugh, does anyone even use Kinect? I'm a console peasant and all, but even I won't go there. Rawr.

Maybe I'm just feeling old and cranky. This girl just turned 39 yesterday. Image IPB

Don't use consoles myself, but the Voice Activated commands is intriguing. From a disabled Player's POV, this may be a good thing for some.

However, having to actually Shout the proper words w/o laughing would kill me sooo often.....
