So, I've decided to abandon my mage concept and play an assassin instead - even my warrior characters (aka every character I've ever made) spent a good chunk of their time sneaking and stabbing, so why not take it all the way and just play a straight up assassin? It ought to make things very interesting.

Sadly, I lack the perk point needed to get both levels of Dual Flurry, as I'm not willing to give up a perk anywhere else. Hopefully, the lack of Dual Flurry 2 will not hinder me very much.

^ It'll make the encounter with Hamelyn in the Thieves' Guild questline a lot easier, that's for damned sure.

That man is insane, both in mind and in combat capabilities.

The point of an assassin is to simply one hit kill things and not be seen.

For a good assassin build:
Sneak: Fill out most of the tree
Pickpocket: To get the poison perk
One handed and archery for your main weapons.

Then snag the illusion perk for silent casting. You can use fury to great effect and pick some people off without getting your hands dirty.

You may wish to consider the perks in Schools which will make any build more effective; has worked well for a few Dragonborn thus far:

Alteration: Magic Resist if you wish stronger protection from spells and Dragon breath (ie; Shouts?)

Conjuration: Bound weapons if you are utilizing bows, swords, or battleaxes.

Destruction: Augmenting a specific energy type also helps weapon damage.

http://elderscrolls....ruction_(Skyrim)

Illusion: Quiet casting as previously mentioned; also seems to muffle Shouts.

Restoration: Respite refuels Stamina along with Health; Necromage improves spells against Undead including buffs by 25% (may work well with Augmented Destruction spells). I also like Regeneration and Recovery; helps keep the pool full when for any needed dives .

Personally, have found a Generalist like this to be far more versatile than my Master casters.

My archer/assassin was mining ore deposites around Whiterun last night, and there was thunder, lightning, and rain. It was very atmospheric. I can really immerse myself in these kinds of games.

It's getting to the point that I'm worried about actually casting some of these spells, for fear of torching my follower by friendly fire. Being a mage can be a lonely road.

This is why my fire mage used Erandur and Aranea.  Dunmer fire resistance + loading them up with magic resist equipment (which is a good idea for any follower)= fireball with abandon

Not that I still didn't hear about it from them when they picked up friendly fire.

@LobselVith:  I love my dremora summons, too.  Image IPB  Even though they don't like the fireballs.

My battlemage, her Dunmer follower and dremora summon- I bet they are a hit at all the Stormcloak parties.

That sounds like my kind of party. I just started Azura's quest last night, and left off right outside Illinalta's Deep. I keep putting off Vaermina's quest, because I keep wondering - is this going to be my Oblivion Walker achievement playthrough? Dang. Erandur is the only real tough Daedric decision for me. After what you've told me about him, I really want to give him a chance.

That settles it. In this playthrough, Erandur lives! Image IPB

Oh, hooray! I'm so glad to hear that! I think Cicero is awesome. After reading his journals, going through the main quest, and using him as a follower, you have a much better understanding of what he's been through. I know the game railroads you into thinking you have to kill him, but it's nice to buck the system, and make your own choice every now and then.

I don't think the game railroads you into that decision, but maybe it's because I never intended to kill him. He's just too damned funny, and I respect the old ways of the Dark Brotherhood from playing Oblivion, so yeah.

Ok, maybe not the game per se, but from what literally everyone in the Dark Brotherhood tells you before that quest, Astrid is the mistress, the big deal. She's the one that rules the roost, and even if it kills you, you must absolutely put your trust in Astrid, and live your life to please her, just as everyone else in the DB does. Nevermind the Night Mother, she's just a corpse. And Sithis? Pffth.

When Cicero went jelly beans, and Arnbjorn went after him, Astrid tells you to find her husband and kill Cicero. Based on what's already been spoon-fed about always doing what Astrid wants, it feels like you're being coerced into killing him.

Truth be told, Astrid pretty much failed at instilling loyalty in me. She just seemed desperate at the prospect of losing her authority, and with good reason.

"All who gain power are afraid to lose it"

Astrid was just a power crazed loser.
Also very stupid.

"Hurr hurr lets leave the person with various pointy death dealing tools fully armed...hurr durr"

If you could make a mod for Skyrim what would you make?

Right now I wish I could make a mod that added enemies on horseback.
Having to face bandits, forsworn, or civil war enemies would be awesome.

I haven't decided on a mod to make just yet, but I have been setting females (close to 100 so far) to use female animations.

So here I go to download the Creation Kit.

Going to attempt some modding.
Last game I attempted was...DAO.

Yay.  Image IPB

I'll have to try Cicero, too.  I did kill him on my DB run.

I was actually surprised how easy it is to use...if, and repeat IF...you use the tutorials.  I've been playing around with it as well.

My first mod is going to be a mounted bandit and forsworn one

I hope.
With my luck at programming I will probably have Forsworn mounted on rabbits running around.

Well, I'm with you there. I'm working on my own version of Breezehome. So many mods just barely miss it for me. How well am I doing at it?....you can probably guess.

That's a fair point. The only one who disagrees with Astrid outright is the Spirit of Lucien Lachance, who makes it clear that Sithis doesn't desire this outcome. Then again, he makes it clear he thinks the Sanctuary could use a good Purification.

^ Then Bethesda should hire you.

I redid the DB initiates, they both have names and new looks, the male dual wields and the female uses magic and a 1 hander like Eola.  I also have Maven and Sibbi in the torture chamber.

I remember Sibbi. My Tribunal mage turned him into a pile of coins with the Wabbajack.

Surprised Maven didn't have a reaction to losing the "heir." I wonder what kind of existence Sibbi is experiencing now, as a bunch of random coins lying on the ground.

As I'm going through the Dark Brotherhood and Thieves Guild quests I regret not leveling up my sneak and pickpocket at all. When I started out this game I wanted to explore and feel out what skills I wanted to level up. I'd never played an Elder Scrolls game so I wasn't sure what I'd enjoy. I steared toward two-handed weapons and destruction magic, but I think I'll make an assasin next playthrough. I would love to have better archery skill as well. I've enjoyed the Dark Brotherhood quest more then any other quest I've encountered so far. :) Next Dragon Born will be an assassin.

I know! Moments like these are the reason I love Skyrim. I spend most of my time exploring the wild. The nature atmosphere is very serene. There is nothing like walking through woods or a frosty mountain and having a calm moment interrupted by a dragon or other wildlife. Over a hundred hours later and i still spend most of my time just looking around. :) I can't believe all the detail.
