Then again most games dont.
Like trying to play any modern shooter.
You can only shoot at what thin skinned Rednecks find acceptable to many times before it gets stale.

Vampire: Bloodlines is one of those games like Planescape: torment. Freak rule-exceptions from the past that won't ever be duplicated and conditioning yourself to except them as standards will just make you quit gaming all together.

As soon as I loaded up one of my characters I got jumped by vamps. My Redguard thief was standing a bit inside Riften, so as soon as the save loaded I see a master vampire and two hell hounds run out of one the side alleyways between the houses. I thought I was in trouble because my stealthy archer was standing up without an arrow drawn and with three enemies about ten foot away. I also thought the only potential backup I had was the one guard just inside the gate, boy was I wrong!
Almost as soon as the fight started (and this was late evening as well) just about the entire population of Riften surged out of the Bee and Barb or from the market place and proceeded to give that master vampire and his puppies the most brutal, humiliating beatdown. I managed to fire one arrow into him before all three of them were dead, that's how quick it happened.
Moral of the story, don't start any **** in Riften, vampires. The people of Riften are so pissed off they will instantly form a lynch mob to deal with trouble-makers from out of town.

And then I see this!? Yes! I F-ing love Skyrim. Been playing since launch, 200 hours. Played ME3 since launch, but its mostly MP now. I go back and forth between these games.
Hey... So what if BW and Bethesda ever teamed up? That would be like ULTIMATE RPG if they pull it off. I always wished for larger exploration/worlds like TES/Fallout, with a powerful narrative, events, and characters like ME. But sadly many tell me mixing open world with ME style may not work. Hard to implement? Skyrim itself had so many bugs and Fallout too.

Off topic is a silly place filled with much less raging and stupidity than the rest of the Forum.
As to that....No hell no. Keep Bioware/EA as far from bethseda as possible.

I would like to see a game that melded the two varied style (ie; story and sandbox), but believe any atempt at a co-op game would result in too many cooks in the kitchen; no decent results.

Hm... I find I have no motivation to play it after starting Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines. Harkon being so stupidly evil and demanding I become a vampire to even learn of his motives kind of sucks.
Well... I bought Dawnguard yesterday and instinctively joined the Dawnguard after I saw the vampire "feast". I mean.... these dudes don't just suck blood, they eat corpses and decorate their halls with the "leftovers".
Without spoilering to much, has Harkon any motives that could make me side with him without being a psycho? Because, even as a vampire, I found the speech of his wife about how ridiculous his plans are and that the vampires would get butchered as soon as they put them into action, pretty convincing.
Maybe I just miss Count Hassildor

I had the same thing happen, but in whiterun. Master vampire was accousted right at the gate by those Alik'r warriors , the captain of the guard and various city guards from all direction. The fight lasted about 20 seconds. The only death was the vampire's.BigEvil wrote...
Ahhh, Bloodlines, my favourite RPG of all time. Smilin' Jack is the greatest character in any tutorial stage. But I should be talking about Skyrim.

Bioware's too committed to interactive movie games to ever join forces with Bethesda. Had they joined up during their Baldur's Gate days, it migh have worked.

So the Alik'r that randomly spawn back at the gate after I've finished that quest can be useful for a change, instead of asking if I need something they can help guard Whiterun.
I've been playing for quite a while today, but I've not actually gone to Fort Dawnguard yet. Instead I've actually been motivated to go off and find the Elder Scroll. With that done, I've been pottering around, selling off some jewels I had building up and finishing off some other quests. The vampires are out and about though.
So far I've had a random encounter in the Reach where I was drawn into a trap basically. Stealthing along one of the paths on the way to pick up a word of power I saw two figures ahead (it was night so I didn't see them clearly) and they seemed to be wearing commoner clothes. Suddenly the woman yells out "Someone help us!" and I assumed it was a sabrecat or something about to slaughter them. I stand up and rush towards them with Iona behind me, only for them to turn around, revealing their vampire status and attack. I felt rather foolish after I looted their corpses, must remember, stay in stealth, let sabrecat attack farmer, then clean up.
Next I came across several vampires fighting with bandits. Lots of magic getting hurled about on both sides, and I move in and start hacking undead with my nightingale blade, lots of loot for me. I've already got three varieties of vampire armour, one in black and red, one in black and one which seems to be dark grey with light grey sleeves.
Finally, while in Solitude I faced a large vampire attack, just beyond the market place when heading towards the blue palace. Luckily the only casualty was a guard. Mere moments before that, one of the guards I passed talked about dragons breathing fire in the sky, vampires brazenly attacking people in the streets, it must be the end of the world. Yeah, brazen, there's four of them right over there by the bards college kicking your comrade in the face!
I am loving it, utter chaos is a great opportunity for my thief queen to make herself even more rich!

Whilst it does LESS damage then say a Dragonbone Bow, that 50% ignoring of enemy armor is handy.
Seriously though I got to crush some enemies, see them driven before me, and heard the lamentations of their women (kind of).
What is better then that?

I told y'all these chaps were brutal - they toss skulls, ribcages, and other bones into huge bowls laying on the floor once they're done nomming all the flesh off of them, then I imagine toss all of it into the piles upon piles of bones in the cattle "sleeping quarters", in the "chapel", and in the castle sewers via chutes. There are probably the remains of thousands of people spread throughout that place - never seen a more grisly scene than what's in Castle Volkihar, ever. It definitely makes me uneasy about siding with Harkon.

Uhm...the hundreds of dragons, thousands of people, hundreds of undead/falmer/constructs, and even Alduin himself dont scare the Dragonborn.
What did scare me was the thought that a sudden breeze might hit Harkon all of the sudden.
Puts some pants on man.

I would say you're better off looking to your own character's motivations than to Harkon's for reasons to join the vampires.
Clearly you have to be at least a little bit comfortable with evil to accept Harkon's offer, but I wouldn't write off the character I did so with as a total lunatic. She is self-serving first and foremost and wasn't about to pass up the chance to become more powerful. However, her own goal is to learn what she can from Harkon while keeping an eye open for an opportunity to usurp him. I haven't actually finished this side of the DLC yet, but so far the story has been very compatible with her mind-set.

First time you really get to use one in a game (outside of the Grey Fox in Oblivion)
Plus Dawnguard.

I wonder if he's still the Count of Skingrad. His people already think he's a mage.
As for siding with the vampires, maybe you want to find out his plans, be among your own people, and look out for your possible new friend, Serana? Or maybe you want to try to seek power at his Court?

Getting (temporarily) turned into a vampire by her was an awesome moment.
This DLC is much better than I had expected.
