I am enjoying my new Crossbow, and my new undead blamming bow.
I enjoy having a horse on a summon now, plus an undead dragon to command.

I enjoyed the new sights, the new fights, and Serana.

Mostly I enjoyed the final boss fight.
Honestly "One They Fear" playing in the background? Pure awesome.

20 bucks may be steep but I had a blast.

Also I got to fight two dragons in the middle of a SNOW storm, on an icy lake, with my undead dragon fighting them.
Honestly that alone was worth the price of admission.

They added some brutal first mission for the Companions too, which doesn't make any sense since you get nothing for joining them. If anything needs a harder first mission, it's the DB cause as it is now all you have to do is murder some old woman and you get one of the best suits of armor in the game.

So I take it y'all on PC and PS3 finally got Dawnguard.

Y'all enjoying it? I certainly hope so. I loved it. Twas better than some full on games these days.

Just PC sadly.  PS3, who knows.

I was underwhelmed by the beginning and have gone back to my other game.  I'll finish it at some point.

Oh damn. Poor PS3 brethren. Hold out guys! Remember that another Skyrim DLC will be revealed at some point in the future. There will be juicy stuff coming later.

Well PC buddies, have fun! I know I absolutely loved Dawnguard. I mean hot damn.

And good thing they do, otherwise during Dawnguard you'd have what like 60-80 pounds in questy stuff at the same time.

But to answer the question, yes, you can.

You can also give the others to Dexion, if you're so inclined.

BTW, Some good can indeed come out of those vampire attacks on cities.

What brutal first mission?

The first mission for the companions is, and always has been, radiant. It ranges from going off to a bar to brawl with someone to clearing out that vampire den by falkreath. Dawnguard didn't change this.

Oh and I wouldn't say you get "nothing": for joining the companions.

Lets see...

1) Access to this game's Master Smith trainer? Check
2) Access to this game's Master Heavy Armor Trainer?  Check
3) Access to this game's Master 2-h weapon  trainer? Check
4) Wuuthrad?  Check
5) The only way to become a Werewolf?  Check

Not to mention access to 5 potential spouses... the most of any of the factions.

Training is not really a benefit, you can get that almost anywhere and most of the time you don't need it. The guild with the least amount of benefits has the most difficult missions. You don't have to do squat to get two of the best armor sets with the DB and the thieves guild, not to mention the other benefits like fences and bribing. I think they were doping heavily when they put this stuff together.

Good thing, then, that it's not the only thing you get.

I do find this comment  hilarious though, coming from the same poster who has b***hed, endlessly on this thread, about the so-called need for Grinding.  Good luck finding a MASTER trainer of Smithing and heavy armor anywhere else in this game.

Training smithing is easy...and you don't need anyone for that. If you have that kind of gold to flush down the drain, then you shouldn't be needing training anyways. Now, if the companions offered you discounted training fees on warriors skills...then that would be a benefit. As it is, you get a skyforge weapon after the second mission and that's about it. All the other guilds at least give you a suit of appropriate armor. In the Companions you just get a...welcome to Companions, now go kill a master vampire.

Yeah, my sincerest apologies for correcting both your contradictory stances and your  factual errors

So is  one-shotting someone by backstabbing  them  without  wearing dark brotherhood armor.

I would love to buy Dawnguard, but I'm not about to if it's going to permanently and continuously (not stopping when the quest is over) cost me irreplaceable NPCs.

I've never had named NPC's die from Dawnguard vamp attacks. At least not that I know of.

Dragon attacks in the past, sure. But vamps? Nah.

I read a bit about it a little. However, they're also saying that they only attack during nighttime, so there might be some leeway there.

I have had a couple NPC's die from a random Dragon attack, but thus far all the vamp attacks have been failures. Of course, a couple of these were in the early morning, so maybe the Sun does sap their strength a little, as well as a couple of fully armed smiths headed to work by the main gate.

Q: Does garlic inhibit vamps in gameplay at all?

Training is a wondermous benefit, and I believe there may be three ways to catch lycanthropy:

* Companions
* Incident with a Daedric artifact
* Possibly being attacked and bitten?

I don't think you can get it that way, which is another thing that doesn't make any sense. How do they explain non-companion werewolves? It's one of those powers that I rarely use anyways since you can't really do much in wolf form. The balance on werewolves seems to be off now since I installed Dawnguard.  I wasn't getting one shotted by nameless bandit archers before Dawnguard anyways, now it feels like I have no defense.

Have to agree werewolves seem pretty useless.

I had several quest NPC's die in vampire attacks. That's the reason I never start the main quest with dragons until after i've done the other quests that I want to do. That problem could be rectified somewhat by having the NPC's that are non-warrior types run away instead of stupidly attacking the vampires.
