I disagree. She's a pretty face who brings me food and drink.

That puts her miles ahead of the group that hides in the back of a cave filled with cutthroats and murders. And their member in prison pretty much confirms the assassin part of her story. Also, the service is terrible in that cave.

If she was really the horrible villain they claimed I somehow think she'd be doing a little better than playing tavern wench with a tiny paring knife to defend herself with.

When in doubt I always err on the side of distressed damsels and killing things that dropped curved swords for me. Curved swords!

Then you fell for the whole point of the quest IMO, which is an inversion of the damsel in distress trope.

She's not dastardly in the sense of being a warrior- she betrayed her city into the hands of the Thalmor.  That doesn't take battle prowess.

Did you read my posts on the previous page?  Nothing about her story makes even a bit of sense.  The whole idea of someone being chased out of Hammerfell for speaking out against the Thalmor is ludicrous.  The Alik'r being harrassed by guards is easily explained by Nord xenophobia and them being too proud to lick boots.  Hiding out in a bandit cave is them lying low.  They're using the bandits as mercenary cannon fodder.

Has anyone found that "cache" that Florentius makes reference to?

Is it just a throw away line or is there really some Dawnguard loot behind seals?

Quick question: what is the quickest way to train Restoration short of paying a trainer? Because it's gonna take a looong time getting the Necromage perk at this rate (needs 70 Restoration, for crying out loud).

Play with giants. I don't think there are any lower end leveling exploits like most of the other magic skills have.

I think there is an exploit with using equilibrium in one hand and healing in the other hand, but that's cheating. :P

I must not have, because I don't even remember him saying that. Image IPB

I wasn't particularly thorough in my first playthrough (DG side), though, and not much better in the second. For this one (another VL), I'm making it my mission to uncover every single thing I can find.

Once you get to the Soul Cairn, you'll see how that can be a challenge, due to its massive size.

I used turn undead on Serena.

The quickest way I know is to use high-level crafted gear with 100% restoration cost reduction and provoke a giant or mammoth. Just spam the highest level heals.

If you don't have great gear or your level is too low, you can also keep jumping from a tower in one of the forts and heal yourself. While you get less training for healing out of combat, this is ideal for low-level characters because there is no risk and your regen out of combat is much better.

Personally, I did not fall for anything; simply chose to aid the person more worthy of help in my judgement.

Whether or not her entire tale is true, she ends up as a serving wench to the likes of the Battle-Born clan and a self-centered lecherous Bard while her assailants travel much of the world accosting suspicious single women.

As for holing up in a cave, that seems to be only true as a meeting area, as they can also readily be found in the tavern in Rorikstead and the roads of Skyrim. And that arrogant prisoner only remains unbloodied because the guards seem capable of dealing just punishiment by delaying his release; have yet to skip those lines at the end.

Indeed that is why I felt bad about helping them. Saadia probably shouldn't have gotten away with it, but I do still not approve of such methods. You also know exactly what'll happen to her if she is taken away, and I don't think my nice character could allow that to happen.

Hilariously, last time I met a pair of her would-be captors, a dragon swooped down and killed both of them, and the innocent redguard woman they were harrassing managed to escape unscathed. Poetic justice?

So basically someone can get away with turning a city over to the Thalmor because she's a woman?

What about their methods is objectionable? They take her back to Hammerfell for trial. Granted they are questioning random women, but they quickly realize these don't fit the description and let them go.

^ Exactly. Don't you guys even care what Saadia did? She gets a free pass, because she's female, and nice to look at? Or brings you food and drink? What about the repercussions of her actions? If left to her own devices, who would she deceive and screw over next?

Pffth. That woman can cook, as far as I'm concerned.

They offer no solid evidence one way or the other.

We know that the guy in Windhelm is the Butcher because we have PROOF of it, and we catch him in the act.

We never are given a shred of evidence that she commited that crime. While the circumstances are damning, there is just no real proof.

Sure, they "let" them go, right after needlessly threatening them and throwing in one last insult for the road. Jerks.

Honestly, if they were upfront about why they were searching for Saadia, I might have felt more inclined to help the Alik'r. But they refuse to give you the reason. So as it is, I take them up on their suggestion to "feel free to walk away" and never bother to confront her.

Why would I aid them in their campaign to badger every single Redguard woman in the entirety of Skyrim's countryside?

That said, Saadia's side of the story is very weak.

I usually do that quest right away, thinking that the Alik'r will stop harassing Redguards, but they never do. Image IPB

That's another one of the glorious "grey" quests in Skyrim. It's nice to play something where the choices are not always black and white.

LateToThePartyberry, reporting in. Is Dawnguard worth $20 flipping bucks on the PC? I'm torn, because I only have time for one character in Skyrim, so I know I'll only play it once. Seems a bit steep for what look to be meh reviews.

If you love Skyrim, you will love Dawnguard.
Trust me when I say that the scenery ALONE is epic.

I think you mean "complete horker dung."

The situation suffers from some cultural misunderstanding, IMO.  Kematu does tell you more, but only after you prove yourself a worthy warrior.  They live by a warrior mindset and aren't diplomats, though I assume they were entrusted with this because there was no way they could be bought off or shirk their duty.

Taneth really wants her back, if they are willing to fund a 20-year search using the country's best warriors.  That to me shows the direness of what she did.

There are probably in-game justifications for not helping them- just not caring about the Thalmor threat, etc.  I just find it kind of funny that "they weren't nice to me" and "she's pretty and asked for my help" are the usual rationales (not just here but in other discussions I've seen).

I second that, wholeheartedly. The new areas are absolutely amazing, and are massive in size. The new Aetherium Wars quest alone is pretty awesome, and that's not even part of the "main" DG content.

Oh, and to be able to change your face? Probably not a big deal on PC, but for us console peasants, that made it worth the $20, by itself!

Am I the only one who struck Harkon in the middle of his lame speech to Serana? He died in one hit.

Also for some reason each time I try to equip Auriel's Bow, the game exits to desktop without warning.

So basically someone can get away with abducting and harassing redguard females because they are male? Because they drop the name of an organization you hate? Works both ways. There is zero evidence that their story is true. Or that they really will take her back to Hammerfel for a fair trial.

Somehow I think that if I were to to turn over a city to the Thalmor, I might get a better reward than... living undercover as a tavern wench. Clearly Saadia benefitted in no way whatsoever if that story was true. Especially since she fled to the one country unfriendly to the Thalmor.

On the other hand Skyrim is the best place to flee to if her story is true.

Given both stories are fishy with no way to prove either, I chose to err on the side of the one who is minding her own business and clearly outnumbered by a group of hostile swordsmen.

What mod is that, that lets you wear a sword across your shoulders?

It is this mod skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/6276

Unfortunately it's not being updated anymore and some versions might cause problems. The one I'm using is the one which only changes the position of one-handed swords and arrow quivers, the old V1.2 rather than the newer one.
