Well, I'm trying to steer us away from the notion that the Alik'r, and particularly their leader, are squeeky clean or "official". They're not. As colored and rightious as their history in Hammerfell might be, Kematu and his men ARE Thugs. They're mercenaries, plain and simple. To the point where they'll strike deals with bandits to use their hideout
When I play a Nord male, I spare Saadia. Not just because she's hot, serves me mead, and calls me handsome, but because I don't like foreign mercenaries carrying out foreign justice on my soil.
No... they're not? The Alik'r are not thugs. I'm getting insulted on their behalf here. They live by a highly refined warrior code. Any Nord warrior would know to respect them. True, these are obviously more the "bash your face in" type of people than slick rogues (they're probably better in the desert) but that just underscores that they're not on an assassin mission. They were no doubt chosen, as I said, because there's no way they
could be bought off.
And again- where are they going to hole up in a wartorn country where they're not particularly welcome and which is crawling with Thalmor?
All this is making me want to play a redguard.

Except I'm kind of sick of Skyrim again.
@LobselVith: She may still be working for the Thalmor. We know they have an informant in Whiterun hold, because of the note at the Talos shrine massacre, and Gissur is in Riften so it's not him. In that case, working as a tavern maid would be ideal because she could overhear gossip of Talos worshippers. That's just a thought that occurred to me, there's no real indication of it.
