Alduin wasn't bad as a villain. I liked the idea that although you "kill" him he is essentially immortal. Talking to Parthennax after you can ask about absorbing his soul. I think he says something to the effect of Alduin not being able to be truly killed in the sense a mortal can be slain. Rather his physical form is destroyed. He still remains the world eater and at the point when the world ends he may return.

Arngeir speculates as much when you bring up how you didn't absord Alduin's soul.

They'll just give you extra Flavor Aid with the next game. Some of us haven't been drugged enough I guess.

I don't see them shrinking the size of the game, though that would make it loads better since they could concentrate more on the details. They could certainly spend time testing the product before release though. A lot of the coding mistakes are very amateurish and should have been picked up on easily if any testing had been done at all.

Jestina can you please not **** every single time you post something?

Its getting really annoying

The real punchline  here is that UNLIKE the vast majority of actual skyrim fans, she  bought Dawnguard.Image IPB

So lets walk through the logic  at play in this scenario.    Player hates the game so much that  they. . . . get out her wallet and spend 20 bucks for more of it.  Makes sense.    That's what we all do, right?    We go to a restaraunt  and the food and service is so bad that we say:  Ew....  Yuck!  Terrible experience!    I'm gonna come back  tomorrow for more!

Anyway, back to Dawnguard.  Haven't  gotten deep into it's main plot line yet, for now I'm just doing the crossbow  upgrade quests.... and exploring.  Wierd that they've added a bunch of new caves  all over the place without so much as a peep of fanfare about them.  I'm in the Reach and discovered 3 new dungeons.

Ruh roh! Anything game breaking to watch out for? I'm actually just starting the Thieves Guild quests on my current character.

The Thieves Guild bugs I experienced weren't game-breaking. Delvin and Vex's dialogue will basically start over every time you talk to them, in regard to their jobs quests. That's annoying. "Tell me about the xxx jobs." "I handle the xx jobs." Blah.

The not-so-terrible bugs, depending on your perspective, are along the same line, but they come with extra cash. Once you start finishing up Special jobs, the dialogue keeps showing up in Delvin's dialogue, so you can say, "I finished the Special job in Windhelm..." every time you talk to him, and get paid $350, or whatever, per job.
It was good for making extra cash, at least. Image IPB

The Falmer Eye bug has been around for quite a while, but this is the first time I've gotten snagged on it.

Thanks for the heads up. So far I've only done a few of the side job quests, not enough to unlock the special ones. Thankfully, I haven't noticed any dialogue quirks...yet anyways. Although, a bug that puts more coin in my pockets doesn't sound so bad really.

Have not been exploring much in my initial attempt; simply exploring the main storyline it presents. Then if I have not deleted it, will return to an earlier save and take more time in character development; not utilizing as many console commands for immediate skill improvements.

Dragon freezing seems to be limled to the last patch; not the DLC, and has not occured but a couple of times in my play.

The Enhanced High Lvl Gameplay mod really payed off tonight. I encountered a couple of Bandits that spotted Serena, but failed to notice me and my bow. After looting them, we moved a small distance and discovered a couple of dead vampires that had been waiting in ambush. The Bandits were evidently more adept than usual, and met the vampires before we did. Could not have planned it much better myself!

The crazy thing is that Alduin probably IS Akatosh and just can't remember.

I wish they had given us a little more interaction with him for that reason.  Not of the muahaha variety of dialogue but the way Paarthurnax talks to you, so you could ask him about his motives.

Lulz. I don't think anyone hates Skyrim more than the people over at the Bethesda forums do

Ain't that the truth.

Skyrim is probably the least buggy Bethesda game I've experienced.  Well, Fallout 3 wasn't bad until you had to introduce GFWL into the equation to load DLC, and then the bugocalypse hit.  On a sad note, Fallout 3 can no longer be played on Windows 7 and so far there isn't an official fix- very sad.

Bethesda gets a lot of respect for me for how deep its narrative really goes.

Alduin is not simply trying to end the world for teh evuls.
He is part of the natural cycle and has done it before, the Greybeards even wonder what halting it means.
More then that he is not simply a separate entity of Akatosh, but a part of Akatosh

I love that its not simply a "BIG EVIL" but a foe that has reasons for what it does.

Same with the Civil War, there is no good side, no right or wrong.
Both choices have their good and bad points to them.

Dawnguard....is a bit less grey though.
I mean Harkon is one "MUHAHAHAHAHA" away from being a Saturday morning cartoon villain.
Minus the mass murder...and letting his wife and daughter be raped by an evil god....and trying to blot out the sun to rule over Nirn as an evil lord.... but still.

*DAWNGUARD SPOILERS*

Eh, I think Harkon is a bit deeper than that - he does what he does out of pursuit of power and for the advancement of his species. A "cartoon" villain often does what he does simply to be evil.

I think he's a bit loony, myself - it is my understanding that he was a different person entirely prior to his becoming a vampire. He only became a vampire in the first place because he feared death, and I suppose he also must've cared about his family enough that he also had them turned into vampires so that they, too, might live forever.

Over the long centuries though, I guess he grew drunk with power and became obsessed with the whole "Tyranny of the Sun" thing, and Serana and Valerica were reduced to an afterthought. So whatever he was before, and whatever he once felt for his family is lost to the egomaniacal psychopath he has become.

Still, his final words do seem to suggest a kind of... lament that his own daughter turned on him. Whether he said that out of principle or because he was genuinely hurt is unknown.

Vyrthur, on the other hand, is a far more tragic and multidimensional villain. He would appear to be a cartoon villain at first, but his motivation is more "human" (so to speak). I don't like what he did, but I understand why he did it and I pity him, and take no pleasure in his death (especially since he's one of the last of his kind).

Well... fearing death or not, the guy was a Molag Bal cultist. That's not exactly the way to get sympathy from anyone or being considered for a nobel peace price or sainthood  .

The guy sacrificed his wife and daughter to the King of Rape. I mean... srsly? Becoming a Daughter of Coldharbour can't really be a pleasant experience.

Lol, who needs a shiv?

Image IPB

That was the most fun way to kill all those bloody forsworn. Unfortunately at least three more bodies disappeared due to the finishing move bug. Including Madanach's. Luckily the next quest objective "search Madanach's body" made it pop back up. xD
Another werewolf bug I'm experiencing is that a finishing move starts, but the werewolf freezes for a few seconds before completing the jumping onto the victim. While I'm stuck, enemies are still happily hitting away at me.

Now I have to wait until I'm back in human form again to continue the quest. That's the downside of werewolf form.

My werewolf also couldn't resist

I couldn't search the body afterwards so I just gave myself the letter.

Ahhh, nicely played good sir!

I'm wondering if it's possible (probably wrong because my knowledge of TES lore is extremely limited) that the reason Serana never seems to mention the dragons is because she was sealed away before the wars against the dragons happened, so she doesn't know they've been gone and returned. Before I go off to play more Skyrim another screenshot.

I really like Serana, but sometimes the lass doesn't respect personal space.

I think she was sealed away after the Dragon War.

If this was another game developer...and I'm not naming any names...we'd probably have seen new TRAILERS, and a zillion tweets about them. I love it that Bethesda just puts them out there, and lets you find them on your own, without needing the pat on the back.

Some of the new dungeons are quest-related - either DG side or VL, but it's nice that you can find and explore them before the quest takes place there.

Is Redwater Den one of the new ones you found in the Reach?

Actully...all pure Vampires are raped by him. Harkon is a pure vampire...soooooo

See now his whole angry crazy plotting makes sense when looked at from the Demon god Prison Shower point of view.

You don't become the "King of Rape" by being picky :D

LOL. I definitely have zero sympathy for the fiend - I'm merely conjecturing as to what might have been going through his mind at the time. At the end of the day, he is still a cruel, monstrous person who is responsible for the brutal torment and deaths of thousands of people, and pimped out his own wife and daughter to the most wicked Daedric Prince next to Mehrunes Dagon. He deserves death in life - and in death, eternal torment at the hands of the god he so favors.

I'm remaking all my characters to get the most from this content.  I knew about Arvak but I had no idea on all the other spells they added to the game.

Same thing my fire mage said.   Markarth needs to be cleansed by fire.

Off topic but check out these screens from Fallout 3 using ENB processing.  Man, I wish we could get the game to play on Windows 7.  It freezes after two minutes and I haven't been able to find a fix that works.

heh! Almost my thoughts concerning Bhelen, but that is for another forum....

I am requesting the name of a mod that helps follower AI. While Serena does not usually follow too close - in fact at times I think I may have lost the lass - she still likes to jump into the fray a bit too quickly, and sometimes in front of an aimed shot. The extra dialogue is why I am enjoying her currently as a Follower, but these bad habits are why I may not take her out on the road again.

And while Markarth has many a vile villain within it's walls, at least the place is not dull. Wiping these critters out is entertaining enough, plus there are quests. OTOH, I realized I have never attempted to become a Thane in Winterhold. Without the oiccasional Dragon arrival, the place is rather boring.
