Yrkoon please stop feeding the Attention troll.
That is the only reason Justina is here.

So what you're implying is that Justina is here so she can get the attention of Yrkoon...:o:wizard:<3:whistle:
Anyway... Dragon's Dogma makes me wish Skyrim had larger enimies to fight.

Dragons aren't large enough for you?

I will never understand how you can continue to play and purchase DLC for a game you claim to dislike so much, Jest - are you sure you're not actually a closet Skyrim fangirl or something? Are you in denial of your undying love for The Elder Scrolls series? Do you have a candlelit shrine to Todd Howard discreetly set up in your basement?

Hell, I'll bet the only time you bother to post here is during loading screens - otherwise, you're too busy raiding Dwemer ruins and pulling down Ancient Dragons to care. That, and posting in the Bethesda forums under a Skyrim-themed alias. How cute.

Not anymore. The only time Ive been excited to fight dragons recently was when an elder dragon attacked Solitude at night. That may have had more to do with atmosphere than it being challenging. If I could face something that would eat the regular sized dragons however... DD realy did spoil me on boss fights.:?

I'm about to get Dawnguard and start a new character...I've heard about those NPC-killing random vampire attacks. Do I have to worry about that?

Not really. Only if you're unlucky.

I'm waiting on more news about this before buying Dawnguard.

^No need - I'll tell you everything you need to know right now.

At around level 8 or so, you're gonna have to keep an eye out on city gates at night, and stables during the daytime. If you're careless, you WILL lose NPCs - but if you stay on your toes and make sure you're cut out to face vamps and death hounds beforehand, you'll do just fine. If you do lose an NPC, simply reload to the previous save and try again.

A small tip: you'll wanna keep the vampire (there will only ever be one) staggered, so make a few Vegetable Soups, eat one, and power attack the living s*** out of that bloodsucker. Don't worry about the thralls so much, as they're weak and NPCs can usually deal with them on their own. Having a follower also helps.

Of course, you could avoid all of that and just refrain from being in cities between 7:00 PM and 5:00 AM, and skip the stables by fast traveling directly to and from cities. I think that's the coward's way out, though.

One more thing: at least half of the time when there's a vampire attack, only a lone vampire will show up, and he will always come after you specifically. Watch out also for a hooded NPC named "Traveler" - he will approach you calmly, but as soon as you're within melee range he will attack you.

(You might also have heard that a vampire will stalk and kill NPCs in their homes - this is absolutely FALSE and has NEVER happened to me or anyone else I know, so put that rumor out of your mind at once.)

(These attacks will also stop once you complete the DG questline, so you need not concern yourself with vampire attacks anymore after that point.)

Okay, well I'm going to go for it. I have it on PC, so I'll just resurrect an NPC if they do die...and if I didn't want them to, that is. Excitement!

I don't know...I've read about the guy sneaking in homes, as well as attacks after the quest is over...I think I'll still wait awhile personally and see what happens with you guys.

I have had as many as three vampires and another couple of thralls attack the gate at Whiterun, so a Save before Fast Travel is recommended. But no home invasions have been seen thus far at all.

I've been on the lookout for vampire attacks, but I finished the main questline rather quickly, so it wasn't much of a problem if it's true that they stop after you do that.

Rather fortunate, since vampire NPCs scaled to a level 75 PC would probably curbstomp the hell out of innocent citizens.

Meh,  I'll take an enemy bigger than a dragon, if for no reason than a change of pace.  But I don't judge an encounter's 'fun factor' by enemy size.  Because that just seems superficial to me.

You know what I miss, and really want more of?     A good enemy Party encounter, like the old BG series had.  a Situation where you come across a party consisting of a warrior, a mage, a cleric and a rogue.... all with equal skills and tactics to your own.  But we don't see encounters like that anymore because  that kind of thing doesn't "wow" the action crowd.  No, instead, the enemy has to be  Bigger, and badder, and scarier looking.  It has to be able to breath on you, and fly, and create earthquakes when it jumps up and down   oh and it has to have a billion-gillion health points, otherwise:  booorrrring... ,<gag>.

Or better yet, can you sacrifice Serena to complete Boethiah's cult quest?

Assuming that's a serious question, essential followers can't be sacrificed.

I just want something that requires tactics rather than "bloated health bar" enemies that you still smack in the face untill they die. Or better yet, enemies that use tactics. Why would the dragon land when it could fly around pelting you with fireballs? You would have to shoot it in the wings, force it to land and then stab it in the face till it dies.

So Dawnguard creates some fun moments. Especially when doing most of it before the regular Skyrim main plot.
As I learned today when I finally got around to visiting the Greybeards for the first time. They wanted me to demonstrate the power of my Shout....and I forgot which shout I actually had selected.

Awkward!

Felt bad for the two Greybeards in back....

The forum name comes from my game character, not the reverse. Been playing games with that name since the first Everquest. My pirate gets around alot.

This version was helped greatly by a mod called 'Live another Life' that lets you pick different start points for the game. In this case a shipwreck off the coast near Dawnstar. Part of the reason it took me so long to eventually get around to the main story.

NWN1 offered this via HotU, as did DAO, I believe; my two favorite games. And I agree, such tactical offerings are missed.

Skyrim offers tactical choices as well, but in my own play, some challenges are self imposed (ie; limited missed shots, no lost comrades, etc). But dragon tactics are in there already, and mods offer even more, but Dragonrend counters fairly well.

I dont think Skyrim is the proper game to have party vs party really.
Since you cant control squadmates, nor do you really need em.

I mean I LOVE Turn Based RPGs.
I play em online all the damn time.

However Skyrim really is meant for two people vs encounter really.
Also that would stress the engine....what it really needs is huge ass encounters and battle scenes like the LOTR games. Seriously it was never more fun then to just mow through mooks left and right by the score.
