Yes. Save games are stored on your hard drive not via internet.Trust me I have 1st one retail 2nd one on steam and it wasn't a problem :)

Be more specific. What are the steps you take, and what sort of error do you then get?

You need to tell ME2 where to grab your transfers.

1) Start by opening up Mass Effect 2.
2) Click on Configure.
3) Choose the option that says "Saved Games"
4) The first thing you'll see is that a bunch of folders come up. What they are is based on what you have on your comp. Genearlly speaking, the game should be pointing near the right direction, but for me personally, it wasn't there in the right spot. Usually the game is stored in "My Documents/Bioware/MassEffect/Save." Click on that, and then confirm with "ok."
5) Then you'll need to save these settings under the "Mass Effect 2" tab.

Then when you open up Mass Effect, it should grab all of the files that you beat Mass Effect 2 with. Beware, if you beat the game again, it seems like you have to redo this sometimes as it doesn't always seem to grab another character that beat the game.

Also, I know this works, because you have it in the same way that I do.
