@DalishRanger You are definitely right about Disturbed having a large repertory of songs which suit tormented characters. But I think you wouldn't find a better one than Haunted concerning the city elf background. I'm glad you like the song from Loreena McKennitt. :-) It really is beautiful. Well of course I don't know what you have planned for your dalish, but if you come up with a good song please let us know. Oh, and I would totally want that DA:O themes playlist. Maybe we could arrange something. We do seem to have a similar taste when it comes to music. ;-)



@Seratina I don't know the Pogues but that song is great. I love Irish music and it suits fantasy settings most of the time.



@KirsiJF Nightwish seems to be almost always a good choice for an elven character thanks to Tarjas "elfish" voice.

@Adrigaar I was actually thinking about picking that one as well, but I finally decided to stay with the uncharted main theme. :-) But the lyrics do fit perfectly (except for the part with St Georg and David). Especially "A house in smoking ruins and the bodies at your feet" "POSSIBLE SPOILER INCOMING"


as the human noble origin includes the attack on your fathers castle in the beginning.

I know what I've got planned (bulleted out his and all my other origins' basic personality traits that I want to roleplay) for Fasais, but I haven't searched extensively yet for a song that fits him. I love finding character themes though, so chances are I'll find something for him and the others eventually. I have one playlist of themes for characters in my comic, and the songs number up to about 54 for only half a dozen characters.

Heh, don't worry - I'd share the playlist publically; it's what playlist.com is for.   As for musical tastes, I like almost anything, quite literally - but I do tend to listen to various forms of metal/rock/alternative genres the most often, and they lyrically tend to have the best suited songs for character themes in my case.

They are my favorite band and that is my favorite song by them. Good pick . Although the song is not about absorbing somebodies heart/soul, it's about a guy who got amnesia but found video tapes of his love and re fell in love with her and then finds out that she left and she's a prostitute../../../images/forum/emoticons/unsure.png. @DalishRanger Well, I do listen to all genres of music as well, but "handmade" music dominates my player.  For a character theme in DA:O I just couldn't imagine using electropop, dancefloor or rap. Also, music from japanese series and games just doesn't work for me. I always get that strange image in my head of my DA:O character raising his weapon, disappearing and popping up behind the enemy with a cool pose with the target of the attack slowly falling into two peices...after a few seconds that is.
I'm not saying these genres are bad. Other people will be absolutely happy with them as a theme. It's just not my thing.

@ald0s Wow, those are awesome songs. All three of them, though Before the dawn is a little bit too heavy for my taste. But Rise Against is an awesome band! Didn't know that particular song. Must be from their newer albums. But the lyrics are great for a rogue class.

When actually playing the game I prefer the original soundtrack for the game for at least the first couple playthroughs then when I get sick of it I prefer to play all 3 Lord of the Rings soundtracks, they fit nicely to rpgs.



I do like to play some metal occasionally though

When I Fraps videos for games I tend to pick a more bad ass music selection, that will suit the pace and feel of the video inparticular.



This song is growing on me right now and I will probably fit it into some DA:O videos

@Hanik Arran: It depends on what story I'm looking for themes for; if it fits lyrically, I tend to use it, though. I also don't like using anime songs for character themes - makes me think of the same kinda things as you, and I generally can't seperate anime themes from their shows of origin.
