Your talk about "tools" and "restrictions on what you can do" and then throwing "also, blu-ray" in there didn't speak much for your knowledgeability on the subject. No offense. Especially since being knowledgeable about that means you either have too much time on your hands that you've wasted (me) or you went to university learning about this for years.
Ouch, first I apologize that I offended you over the internet.
And here is a [short] article I referred to regarding the PS3, I had a lapse in linking.
Edit: here's one from CNet

As I said, I can't blame someone for not being highly knowledgeable about such a topic since there's a high amount of knowledge to be highly knowledgeable about. I only know so much due to my own experience with computer programming over the years (that is, a lot of years) and having to learn a lot about computer hardware starting from when I was preparing to build my first PC. And even then, I don't know everything, not even close. (However, on a side note, the series of tubes that is the internets is, indeed, serious business.)
As for the articles, the first one I'm not so sure about since it's about a statement made by Sony, so there's an obvious conflict of interest there. The second article also includes information from said statement, though thrown in with comments made by non-Sony-affiliated developers, so it's a bit better. The last link is pretty informative, as a lot of the comments in there are directly about software engineering for the PS3 coming from programmers who have had personal experience developing for it, though surely it's mostly over the heads of people who aren't at least budding programmers.
