I've always thought that they were generally weaker (Saren being the exception with his Reaper tech). They just seem to have a skinny frame.

Then again, we also have to remember that almost every military force in the game augments their soldiers with different "Mods".

Humans and Turians are pretty well matched. Think of it as the Navy Seals vs the Spetznaz like on Deadliest Warriors. Turians have the added benefit of a metalic skeleton giving them more resistance in hand-to-hand combat. And don't forget the 12" combat knives they carry into battle.

I have the same impression.
Also, isn't the turian metallic skin "only" good at reflecting light/UV - not good at deflecting blows?

Yes, that's true.

Shepard sure is fortunate he/she received those nifty upgrades otherwise Sheps would have been humbled so many times over. (i.e. headbutting krogan warlord)

According to Grunt you would have to "work with the knife" to kill a turian in close combat. If the exceptional strenght of a krogan needs the help of a knife to penetrate natural turian defenses I say they must be very efficent.

He could be refering to their armor. The Turians are the largest military force in the ME universe. They would likely have superior armor to that of other groups.

Possibly. But considering that he before that was describing other races as "soft" in general I suspect he was talking about natural defences, especialy as he never mentioned anything about armour.

Indeed. Of course we have to remember that the fact Grunt has to "work the blade" with Turians doesn't mean that they are any tougher then other species.

I have to fight my way out of bubblewrap sometimes (I love playing with it) but that doesn't make Bubblewrap tough.

To quote the queen of Omega: I would almost pay to see that!
In any case, if Grunt says that turians are hard to hurt in close combat for a krogan I will take that as a strong indication that it would be much harder for a human.

@lovgreno: Indeed. They also have notoriously sharp talons. Lots of references to those in Cerberus Daily News.

Additionally, bubble wrap is evil.

Are Turians and Humans equal in strength? Hmm. Okay, let's assume you are an average Human, and then a turian waltzes into your house. You punch him. You hurt your hand. He hits you across the face and knocks you out. End of.

I've also noticed that he never actually says how tough a Human is to kill in close quarters. All he says is that it's a finger deep to sever our spine . . . not how difficult it would be to do that.

(I'd be impressed if the writers left that information out on purpose. Leaves more room for drama if a Krogan/Human fist fight starts up.)

he also talks about space combat but that's irrelevant.

To me it sounded like he was mocking humans for being weak and frail. Krogans likes to do that kind of thing but I don't think Grunt would say that if he couldn't back it up. Considering how much bigger and stronger krogans are than humans without being slower or much less agile I say it doesn't seem like the average krogan would have any problem with a human. A turian have about the same reach (giggle) as a krogan and looks faster and more flexible (giggle). I doubt a human would find it easy to avoid those turian claws that according to Cerb news easily can kill a human even by accident.

Because punching a Turian would be like punching a metal door, genius, or a fridge, take your pick.

Again. How many Turians have you punched? Anderson @#$%ing headbutted one and he was alright.

That was in a cutscene.  People become invincible and overpowered in cutscenes.  Jack takes out two YMIRs by herself.  Multiple krogan are downed with a single shot from a pistol.

Damn, you're right.

WAIT! Shepard has the chance to punch MANY a Turian over the course of the game. While in combat.

But, of course, Shepard has been "augmented" by both Cerberus and the Alliance. I imagine that augmentataions are standard for any soldiers/mercs in the ME universe.

Not the kind of augmentations Cerberus plugged into him, man.

I also meleed a krogan to death. Does that make humans stronger than krogans?

It makes YOU stronger then a Krogan. But, again, I don't know how baseline members of each species stack up against each other. We don't have many examples.

We don't, but I still would rather not pick a fight with a turian. After all, they've got them hard plates, nasty talons, and combat training for everyone over 16 years old.

Shepard and Saren are super cyborgs so they don't count for comparing how good pugilistic skills the average human or turian have.

But in close combat skills of the average individual I would say the list may be something like this:
1. Krogan.
2. Turian.
3. Asari.
4. Human and batarian.
5. Vorcha.
6. Hanar.
7. Quarian.
8. Volus.
9. Conrad Verner.

i'm pretty sure Batarians should be under Conrad and Quarrians above Hanhar >> just my 2 scents though...also lore wise Asari are Weaker than most Male Humans. and you forgot to put the salarianst above volus >>
