Hello. I recently got Neverwinter Nights 2 from a friend of mine for Christmas, as an early present and I';ve been trying to install it onto my mother's Toshiba laptop, which has Window's 7, and also my lap top is dying and can't handle the game. Anyway, I didn't read anywhere that the game wasn't compatible with Windows 7 yet this box keeps popping up called "Feature Transfer Error" and whenever I click "Ok" it shuts down the set up and I have to start it over again, yet it keeps popping up. Here's a screenshot for you to look at to see what I'm talking about.
Please help. I love this game, as I've faithfully played the first Neverwinter Nights and I would love to experience how advanced this one is.

CRC chek?!?
my (limited) guess is a bad disk, dirty disk, scratch ..
If it's not that, there's also a thread in General Discussion:
Win7 Successful Install with Neverwinter Nights 2
The long & short is you need DirectX 9.0c (which installs okay with DirectX 10/11 already in, but don't take my word alone for it, do yer own homework eh!) and .NET 3.5 for use of the toolset.
If you know this already, well .. & if you get past the 'Feature Transfer Error', a good idea is to install the OC, load & run game for a few minutes, install MotB, load & run game for a few minutes ...... then update.
sry, i know it's not much, but if it's a bad disk maybe your friend can replace it at the store .. maybe first try copying 'data5.cab' directly from the disk to the harddrive; if it transfers okay I think the disk is okay

It's popped up for me three times already. and it;s not a bad disk. Straight out of the box, unscratched, totally clean. I restart the installation and it STILL pops up. It shouldn't have a problem with Windows 7, as that topic says. But obviously, being the bad-luck attractor I am, obviously has a problem with Windows 7.

how's yer disk space? (silly question, win7 should be able to give a proper message for disk space)
Does the message pop up on 'data5.cab' every time?

yeah. It just stops when the little bar gets to "...bat_endboss.bmu" and I have no idea why. If it needed, as you said, Directx 9.0c surely it would tell me before the installation starts?

I've been looking into it, I don't think Dx9 is the cause. Most say it's a bad disk or faulty drive. If you can copy the disk to a folder on your Desktop you might get it to install from there though. But if it won't copy, it's an indication of a screwy drive/disk ..
Several people on the old Forums said they had problems with data5.cab also (they show up in the Google search). They solved it or didn't various ways, the most consistent being copying disk to desktop .. if that don't work, personally I'd download a disk-checking program (assuming the drive works fine with other CD/DVDs). Others manage to finagle the install through changing system settings. But CRCs are 98% hardware
my sympathies & good Luck

KevL is correct, failed CRC checks are most commonly a hardware issue.
Some suggestions are shown in the Installing NWN 2 topic for installing NWN 2 and subsequent expansion packs. You need to turn off Anti-virus, Firewall, and Anti-malware applications during the install and update processes.
Also, posting your complete System Information would be quite helpful towards resolving your issue.
