This question is born out of an observation of the DA community. It seems there are very high number of females who play Dragon Age origins, higher than most games in fact.

I'm curious as to why this is. (if it is indeed the case and I'm not imagining things)

Not trying to be rude or anyhting, just curious.

The female gaming market is a HUGE demographic. More women play games than they did 10 years ago.

Dragon Age appeals to women because it as a great story and its FUN to play

Actually, it's probably got the same amount of female players who play any other game.  The difference is that there is something to talk about in Dragon Age, and somewhere to talk about it with like-minded (male and female) people.  The game has more to talk about than just bragging about achievements.  There are characters to discuss, motivations to dissect, sequels to speculate about, hats to complain about.

I'm a woman and I've been playing D&D for a long time. I fell "in love" with the Dragonlance books and this is my chance to relive everything I felt when I read those books. Then I played Heroes of Might & Magic 2, 3 & 5. I haven't played anything until yesterday. I was shopping and saw this game; I read the reviews and decided to buy it. I started playing it and the hours have just flown by.

I'm a female gamer, but me playing Dragon Age has nothing to do with the fact that I'm female. I've been playing video games since the late 80's, and I play all genres of video games. I've just always had a particular love for RPGs because I've also been a heavy reader of books. RPGs focus more on story than any other genre of video game.

I was also pleasantly surprised when I noticed that there are actually a lot of women playing this game. But when you think about it, what's there not to like both for male or female in this game, it's simply great!

Ok, I'm not asking why girls play video games, I know they do. It seems to me however that almost more girls than guys play DA:O. (Judging by the amount of fanart for fem wardens, fanfics, users here and that the most popular romance option is for females).

I want to know what is it about DA:O that attracts women more than, say, Mass Effect?

Just a thought, but is it that more women play Dragon Age, or more women post on these forums about Dragon Age? 2 different things I think. :)
