Too much overly romantic dialogue was actually my turn off of Liara romance. And no. I do not want to give blue babies for someone who lives in the bloody middle of nowhere in the lighting district of the galaxy.. Liara was somewhat interesting LI in ME but I did not like her in Lair anymore - I remained friends. I should probs try to play that romance of the year though once though before ME3. Alright romance but light years behind Thane.
I should probs try Kelly as she doesn't seem too bad - I like her. So far she has only fed my fish once.
Garrus romance was too awkward for me. I did not find that beating around the bush nice and the whole situation was not thrilling- he is my most important friend but nothing more. Romance felt wrong.
Kaidan - I did not like that romance - Kaidan as a person is not pleasant. He doesn't have enough lines outside his past to be interesting and overall personality is slightly whiny.
ie. I do not have a suitable romance in ME. In ME2 If Jack was a romance option for female I would be happy. Now I only have Thane and no competition there.

2. Ashley
3. Kelly (The romance as far as it was implemented is very nice, the scene at the end of the game is a disgrace though.)

For the male-sheps, I am torn at times between Ashley and Tali because they both, imo, have very different but equally endearing qualities. For one of my Sheps, I'm still absolutely torn between the two and I'm partially hoping to solve the dilemma after a fanfic I'm writing about this love triangle is finished.
for the fem-sheps, to be honest, Kaidan is the only legitimate romance option. True I only have one current femshep who's still alive after ME2, but even still, for actual femsheps I'm roleplaying with realism I can only see them with Kaidan. Plus a lot of this is me seeing a lot of myself in Kaidan's personality and therefore wanting him to get lucky
Given that, I have tried romances with Liara and Miranda, but both were with my ****, player, "f*** 'em and leave em" Shepard, and honestly I found both romances extremely underwhelming. Yes I have multiple characters I roleplay differently from eachother. I will be trying a Garrus romance witha femshep I'm gonna make in the near future, but that is purely experimental and I'm playing it off like a "Phantom of the Opera" dynamic (I'm even naming this future Shepard Christine

My absolute favorite love interests in the Mass Effect series are Ashley, Tali, and Kaidan.

Liara (gets most of my femsheps)
Ashley (doing an ME1 gender switch playthrough just for her)

1 - Kaiden
2 - Thane
Have never had a shep romance Garrus or Jacob.
Garrus is most trusted comrade in ME2
Jacob - I don't like the way femshep talks with him, the tone is all wrong.

1. Jack - very rewarding (except I got the feeling they'd already spent the budget for romance scenes on Miranda and Jacob 'the priiize' Taylor
2. Ashley - felt the most 'natural' and well-paced relationship to me.
3. Miranda - the closest to Shepard's equal and developed a surprisingly complex character.
FemShep:
1. Garrus - hilarious yet touching.
2. Liara with LotSB - great payoff for the people who stuck it out all the way to the end of LotSB.
3. Jacob - his romance scene will still be remembered long after the others are all but forgotten.

However, via watching them on YouTube, I can also state that Ashley, Kaidan and Thane's respective romances are also very well done.

Were I to start a new shep in ME2 with no LI import, (and it were possible), I'd probably romance Tali with my FemShep.

For my MShep, I like Jack best. There are flaws with it but I loved getting to know her character better. She's awesome. Then Liara in LotSB was also really well done.
