I have a conundrum...

I am getting ready to pre-order DA and find myself in the lucky position of having all 3 formats at my disposal. Now, I loved the oldskool Bioware on the PC (BG, BGII etc) but have in recent years very much enjoyed playing their output for console (JE, ME etc). As such I am left asking myself what format should I get Dragon Age for???

Would it be sacrilege to play DA on anything but the 'classic' PC? Have Bioware learnt enough from their more recent offerings that the console versions will be as good, if not better, than their PC counterpart? Does it really matter either way?

Any help greatly appreciated! :)

I wouldn't say it would be sacrilege to play on the consoles instead of PC. But I will say that the Pc has the best to offer. Better graphics, more options in terms of gameplay (tactical AND Action RPG) and it also has the promise of community created content.

If you absolutely have to play this game on the couch with a controller (and your PC is not hooked up to your TV) then get it for the console. All things being equal, the PC is the platform of choice.

I cannot offer any help beyond my own intention and that is to play DA on the PC, I do not have a PS3 but I do have a 360 but I just do not feel as though its the kind of game I will settle into playing on a console but that's just me.

Yep, I agree with Kinthalis: PC (if your PC is up to specs). Consoles have the easiest time getting the game going, and you won't have to worry about compatibility issues because it'll just work, but the PC offers more of everything else.

I've a PC and PS3 and decided on the PC version. The game is so very much designed around the concept of a keyboard and mouse input and getting back into a BG-style world is all I want.

I'll tell you I had the same problem before. I have the 3 platforms in my posession. Thought of getting it to the 360 at first, then the PC, then the 360. But now It's clear to me. PC.
User created content and the toolset in general is going to be great to play with, a bit better visuals, nice hotbars where you can place ton of spells and abilities that are accessible at all time, I think it will be easier to control your character and party and I've always stuck to PC for RPG-gaming.

Good luck. :)

I think it depends on the hardware you posses. If you have a strong PC then PC is the way to go but if you don't or would rather be playing DA:O on the Big Screen tv then the consoles are the way to go.

Sacrilege? Of coruse not, but if you have PC capable of running Dragon Age, then this would probably be the best choise. More options and better looking and all that. Plus, user-generated content.

PC is nice because of user created mods, toolset etc, but my back aint as good as it used to be and I've grown tired of sitting infront of a computer for gaming as much, so now I base my decision on comfort so my big HD LCD tv and the couch with surround sound is choice for gaming now. As far as graphics are concerned I've played Fallout 3 on PC and on 360 and I in all honesty(and I'm not some idiot that isnt familiar through personal experience with game development) I can say other than tweaking AA and overclocking there is a minute difference in the two, especially after a patch Bethesda released that amped up the textures and lighting, I'd say it depends on your Monitor/TV, High Def or Standard, and frankly even through excellent sound design for a game it wont make a difference unless you have a proper home audio setup.

Being an avid gamer from both PC and console, I've never been one to have a pissing contest over which is better, and hearing so many PC has better graphics etc etc etc, I get it you prefer PC in many comparisons of many many games there is barely a difference even with top of the line hardware, there are too many variables involved, however my  HDLCD not just with size but resolution trumps a 20" PC monitor anyday.

Cheers for the opinions guys. Seems that the PC is the medium of choice! I suppose it always was going to make sense for a game such as DA, and the UGC should definitely add lots to the experience too.

It will be interesting to see if there is a significant discrepancy in review scores between console and PC versions when they finally come out due to issues such as the ones you mentioned (control scheme, visuals, extra content etc...)

even though kotor and kotor2, where awesome on the xbox but i think pc is better because you will be able to pauze the game for tactical choices while on colsoles it's left out :P

Man, I am so tempted to post my wall of text dedicated to informing everyone why the PC is a better platform for all games....but I guess I'll spare the consolites...just this once.

You can read comments like these all over the forums but the truth is that time moved on and BG isn't as great today as it was when it came out as far as UI is concerned. Compared to todays standards the controls are clunky, cumbersome and devoid of fun, it almost "plays" like Excel or Photoshop. Don't believe me? Install it and try it out. I too have a top notch gaming PC, a 360 and a PS3 and i'm playing this on the 360, because i can't stand the "original" or "classic" Interface anymore, because i already played it when it came out the first time as opposed to many "elitists" here, who probablöy never played it.

good move, because, frankly it doesn't get any better by copy/pasting it all over the forums.

I don't believe you. And I just finished yet another playthrough of BGT.

For this game, PC is probably better, because of the exclusive content and toolset, but if you prefer playing it on PC, there is no reason for not doing so, it's not BG, after all. Enjoy!

Yes, but she's played it more than you have.  ;)

Anyway, she does say it will be fine on all platforms, so no worries.  Just offering some perspective besides "I like PC" and "I like console"...

I'm not about risk red ring of death after I get into this game. My XBOX has been back twice for it already. I've got spare PC parts if that one goes down. Clearly PC.

I promise you my platform preference will not change upon playing DA:O. I prefer the console experience unless I'm playing an MMO. This may be mind-blowing to you, given that I am a "BG2 player."
