I'm currently at my wits end...

The problem: My old module (which was set up for multiplayer and worked perfectly fine with the ADL) was too cluttered and needed a cleanup badly.

What I did:

  • Exported all areas, blueprints etc. from the module to erfs.
  • Made a new module, importing all the basic systems, the blueprints and area files.
  • Set the exact same module properties and set up the autodownloader exactly the same as the in the old module (servers etc.)
  • Saved the module with the exact same name as the old one (tag etc. too).

My staging folder was still containing all the files from the old module, none of them had changed nor did I rebake anything. New module works just like the old one when played offline.

Now... when trying to load the module up for multiplayer, the first message I see is it's improperly configured for the  autodownloader. It does so right away, immediately after choosing the server, and does not switch to the ADL GUI screen.

Things I tried:

  • Started staging, saw it wants to stage everything from scratch, didn't stage.
  • Saved both the old and new module as directories and copied the old moduleressources.xml and servers.xml from the old to the new. Staging the new module afterwards says "all files up to date".

Autodownloader still giving me the same error message.
  • Removed the xmls again, now I'm staging everything from scratch.

But I assume this also means, I have to upload that whole gigabyte again, and all the people who playtest sometimes are forced to download it again too, even though they already have the latest versions of the files, or am I wrong? Because, I really do want to prevent that.

Has anyone any ideahow to let it use the old files on the server without having to upload everything again?

If it matters, I'm using dropbox.

Okay, this is embarrassing.. of course the desperate last try before giving up (and right after making this post) worked...  maybe this will help anyone else who's scratching their head over this, but apparently I was wrong and the ADL dioes NOT check the creation date of the newly staged files.

Which means, yes, I had to stage everything again. But no, I didn't have to upload the files. I wish this was made clearer, it would've saved me hours from needless poking around.

*leaves in embarrassment*
