Bump, because this thread got moved from the general forum to the spoilers forum, so I thought people here may not have noticed it.

Edit: aaaand because this post just pushed it onto the third page, I'll repost my question here so you won't have to backtrack to the second page to read it:

Playing as a woman, I gave Leliana one gift right after she joined me
and got +10 approval. On the missing manual site it says the issue with
her romance can be caused by giving her gifts too early. Do you all
think I should reload an earlier save and not give her any gifts until
after her personal story? Or is one gift definitely no big deal?

The bug is not you give a gift too early. The bug is you raise it too high and skipped over a cutscene you must have first.



As long as you keep it below 50 or 60 until you get the personal quest from her, you should be good. The bug happens when people skip way past that with gifts without getting the quest activated.

Is there anything to be done if you've already done her personal quest and had the 2 follow-up conversations in camp, but she's gotten stuck on the friendly scale instead of the romantic one? I tried using the console command to lower her approval back down to neutral and then back up again, but it seems to be stuck on that non-romantic axis. There is no way I'm going back to a save from far enough back to redo that stuff--I've been playing for hours since taking on Marjelaine, but I'd kind of like to get all the romance achievements I can on this playthrough.

From what I have seen so far, if you have gone through the early flirty dialogs already and have a (friendly) in approval you are out of luck for a romance. (care), (adore), and (love) is what you are looking for.



So far in my experience (haven't done a female yet so no Alistair) all the characters give a sort of "what is this" dialog at some point so you should be careful anytime they initiate the dialog (i.e. you don't get the standard ask you a question options from the start).

I haven't started her quest yet, but she mentioned stuff about her past (Marjolaine) that makes me think it will start soon. I also just had a conversation where she said she liked my hair, I eventually said "so do you often enjoy the company of women?", she asked something like "how would you react if I told you I do, quite a lot in fact?", I responded "probably giggle and act coy" and she finally said "you should try to do that when I'm not expecting it and surprise me."

Does that mean I'm on the romance track now? How can you tell on XBOX 360? Everyone talks about numbers for approval and friendly/care/adore/love, but I don't see any of that stuff. I just see a single meter. Am I missing something, or did XBOX owners get gypped in this regard? She does have a skill that gives a minor boost to cunning because of her approval for me.

The romances are important to me in games like this, so it will seriously impair my enjoyment of this playthrough if I get "Leliana Romance Fail." I've already put about 15 hours in though, so I'm getting close to that point of no return in regards to restarting the game.

Yes you are on the right track. Though I never did Lesbian Love for Lelianna, the dialogue is similar enough.

Cool, thanks for the reassurance JamesX. I am playing my character as lesbian, not bisexual, so it was basically Leliana or no one. Besides, I like monogamy.

I recently became a Bard, so I was hoping I'd get some kind of "we're both Bards! AWESOME!" conversation with her. No luck so far. I'm thinking to have Leliana take the first 3 Bard songs while I only take the first one, that way my party can have both buffing songs going at once during combat. I believe it would be bad roleplaying form to leave my romantic partner out of my party, thus I must figure out how to use two Bards to my advantage

Damn, I guess I'm out of luck with her this time through. Ah well. I'll be playing the game through with other characters, so I guess I'll have to be content to win her with one of them. That's sort of disappointing. I've got to agree with others in this thread--hinging the whole romance subplot on a single conversation that cannot be replayed later and isn't obviously significant at the time is kind of not cool. I hope it gets fixed in the next patch.

Do you have to kill Marjoline to get the right dialogue when you go back to camp or can you let her live?

No, you don't have to kill her. I didn't. It ended up working out for me though I was scared it had bugged out. After I did her personal quest, we talked a few times and then the romance finally started. I believe it was when I was asking her if she was still ok about what happened. You do have to be careful with what you say to her though. Always be as sweet and metrosexual as possible!

EDIT: Got the dialogue finally. Just needed to give her a few gifts to pump up her approval so new dialogue would open up.

Huh. I was just in camp and spoke to Leliana. I got the "Are you feeling better about what happened with Marjolaine?" option this time, and when I followed the options that are flirty and flattering, she said she loved me. So I guess you can jump from the friends to love tracks pretty easily sometimes, so long as you have one last shot at it. After the conversation was over (she said we would talk of this again), her approval slider now read "Love" instead of "Friendly". Couple more times talking to her, discussing feelings, then the stars, then some more feelings (she asked me about Alistair, since I was already involved with him, but I was able to assure her she mattered more without actually dumping him, apparently), and I got the love scene.



However I immediately had to pick between her and Alistair the next time I talked to him. I can talk to Lelianna all I want and be fine, but if I talk to him at all, I've got to choose--and this time I can't tell him I choose him but not tell her the same--the next time I talk to her, she knows its over and there are no options to keep it going. Looks like the least amount of disapproval I can get from her is -15, if I let her down easy. Ah well--I suppose it was unrealistic to hope to be a bigamist. ;-)

I'm really grateful for the information because I couldn't understand it either, hence being on a message board!? I couldn't understand that whilst I AM intending to romance Lelianna, all I've done is give her Andraste's Grace and a couple of other gifts, she's going on about me misleading her with Morrigan etc., The option isn't there, but what I WANT to say is "Whoah, easy girl! I gave you gifts but made no advances at all!! As someone else said, she does indeed just go on about the same Bard stories.



Similarly, I WANT to say to Morrigan "Now wait a minute, YOU said you wanted no strings attached, make your damned mind up" but I can't For some reason, the Devs think that all 4 options should equal "I'm weak, walk over me" lol



Anyway back on topic, a bug makes a lot of sense as to why Lelianna acts like a posessive psycho without having ever had any romantic encounters at +99, or discussions to that effect.

dont worry even if u do romance the ending makes u feel like it was a complete waste of time...i got to 100% love before the last few areas and from then on my only dialogue options for around 20 hours of playtime where "go to bed with her", "listen to stories", "tell her ur the best thing thats ever happned too you"

and then to add insult to injury there is no goodbye scene, no indication that she is upset when u die except for one split second close-up wen Alistair gives a speech about you.The most intimate moments towards the end are the goodbye bit with ur dog and morrigan whoring herself out for power.......so i wouldnt loose any sleep over it >.<

I messed up the first time it came up (since I was romancing Morrigan at that point) But after killing Marjolane you talk to Leliana about it and after a coupla chats -you miss her? -I wish I could be as important to you as she was. And BAM shes ready to go to bed in her big comfy sleeping bag.
