Dragon Age 2 is doing something much appreciated by giving seperate skeletal rigging to female Hawke (movement animation, posture etc).. whereas in DA:O females used the same rigging as males.... as we all know, males and females carry themselves quite differently when we walk, run, jog etc.

ME1 & 2 had female Shepard using the exact same skeletal rigging as male Shepard... this often resulted in some awkward looking movement and animation for a fem Shep that could be a bit jarring at times (I.e., the way she holds her arms out so bloody widely as if she were built like a male body builder... the skeletal rig fits Male shep since he has larger muscle mass, but it looks bizzarre on the much smaller female Shepard).

Any chance we will see female Shep get a proper / seperate skeletal rig in Me3?

The "rigging" referers to the skeletons and their connections with the mesh (some might prefer to refer to the latter as "skinning").

It may not look like it sometimes, but I have to imagine the skeletons for male and female meshes are indeed adapted to fit (bone end points being inside joints), otherwise it would no doubt look even stranger.

So what you want, is separate animation sets for male and female player characters - this is something that has often been brought up on these forums. I am pretty sure ME1 DID have this.

It would be nice if expensive.

I damn hope so. I don't want my FemSheps to be she-males anymore...

That would be nice.

Are you asking if Femshep were to have animation exclusive to her in where she acts and posses like a woman in her Cinematic scenes? Like cross her legs and stuff? Sure that'd be cool. It'll give me a more of a different experience when I play my Femshep.

BioWare, please do this. PLEASE!

I certainly hope so. FemShep's animations were unique in ME1, but were then identical to that of DudeShep in ME2, which is a massive and disappointing backwards-step.

They're doing it for female Hawke in Dragon Age 2... would be nice if their biggest title got the same treatment.

I like to RP at times, call me weird but I'd like to be able to walk sometimes instead of running everywhere and not look like I've got a stick up my rectum. If they were going to give Shepard a limp, why not do the same in the cutscenes? The animations are very inconsistent at times.

It might be double the animation work for Shepard, but damn it would be worth it.

FemShep did have her own animations in ME1, as far as I can recall. The walking animation immediately comes to mind.

The animations are the sole reason I never use the dress from Kasumis loyalty mission.

When she's wearing it, Shepard looks like a crippled gorilla rather than just moving like one.

Which is why I thought the Kasumi outfit was a wasted opportunity. They're practically using it on a man; since FemShep's walking animation is literally a copy-paste of that of MaleShep in ME2.

I always got a chuckle when talking to Garrus and Samara with that dress.

In all seriousness, it'd be cool to see Femshep move like a woman. Have her hands to her hips when standing and have her cross her legs when sitting. etc...

I actually really liked the fact Femshep moves like a guy - I think it's empowering really. Having said that, I think they should only give her her own animations for when she sits down to talk to Garrus and when she dances - I miss her old dance :( There are probably a few other examples, but for the most part, I think it works extremely well!

I don't mind that FemShep is manly, but damn, is running like a gorilla necessary?

At least fix the running animation and adjust the sitting position when she's wearing a skirt to prevent panty-flash.

The arms crossed pose Shepard does when talking to the Illusive Man is femine enough as it is. It would just be another male pose if Shepard stood their with their arms cross but the way they have the model lean back it makes the hips stand out and ever time Maleshep does it, I expect Meer to burst into a latino accent and start snaping his fingers and telling me that I don't know him.

Please don't misunderstand.. by no means was I suggesting fem shep's movement needs to be turned into some absurd catwalk-type stroll where she moves her hips side to side in some absurd fashion.

What I mean is that men and women have different centres of gravity, different body proportions.. and we walk / move differently.. it's subtle, we don't notice it in our day to day lives.. but when it's wrong in a game, it's painfully evident.

The biggest though being that a woman who looks to be 5'8 and 130lbs or so with a lean build, should not move like a 6'0 210lbs well-built male.

I.e. Female shep does not having a "wing" (muscle mass near the armpit)... Male shep does... Male shep's arms needs to hang wider out due to his muscle mass... female shep, who has lean arms, should not hold her arms in the resting position the same way male shep does.

Same applies to walking and running gait. She runs as if she 1)Has testicles (men run differently than women because of this, believe it or not). 2) Has heavily built thighs (which she does not).

It's even better when, during that cutscene, the game glitches and suddenly zooms in on Shepard's crotch.

I fell of my chair laughing.

I will laugh my ass off if FemShep still has male animations in ME3.

One thing that always annoyed me in Mass Effect (and several other animations beyond this one series) is the way they depict women sitting. Obviously, they've never paid attention to how women sit. They do not position their legs the same way as men. Seriously, they do not have to sit with any consideration placed on what's dangling between their legs. They sit differently.

The problem is she does have a "wing" when wearing armor outside of the ship in ME2 and because of it's shape her arms would clip through some armors if they used what should be the female casual outfit running animation, which is probably why they didn't bother making a new animation. Also and I'm suprised you didn't mention this Femshep's elbows don't look natural at all in the Kasumi mission dress it makes it look like her arm is a gigantic noodle that someone bent at a 90 degree angle half way down.

That would be great, imo. Also, Bioware should hire an actress or model for female Shepard's default face (like they have Vanderloo for default male Shepard).

I loved to walk around the Citadel in ME1, but in ME2 I can't stand walking around without running because it's a lot slower than ME1 and it's not natural as ME1. The worst moment in ME2 for me was watching FemShep in Donovan Hock's house walking like Arnold Schwarzenegger in a dress...

Oh how I hated when she sat and walked like a man. I hope they do.
