Hello,

I am looking for BG2 ToB players that wish to play multiplayer. I am looking for serious players? what is serious you ask? Serious is a person that doesnt dissappear after 48 hours and is never to be found.. I am looking to have a person or group of people that are dedicated to a full BG2 ToB MP game.

Game Goals:
  • Full Playthough of BG2 and ToB in MP
  • Brand new Characters only for the MP
  • No Cheat, Char Editing ETC.
  • Must have Ventrilo with a Mic
  • Must be able to communicate though some form of Instant Messanger
This will be a full playthough MP, for fun. We wont be ruining the game on purpose becoming wanted etc.

Game Requirements:
  • BG2 & TOB Vanlia Installed with the Latest patch.
  • BG2 Fixpack (only core fixs)
  • BG2 Tweak Pack - Will be given exact list of what to install
These MP games will most likely require you to do a fresh install of BG2 in order to only have the things listed above installed and correctly. If not we run into game sync issues and crashs.

Please dont contact me if your not serious. Can reach me following;

Steam: Xlayer
Xfire: fireshroom
Private Message me.
Ventrilo: Will be given out upon intial contact.

Note: I happen to be a Database and Network Administrator, if you have run into problems getting MP to run such as being unable to join or host games. Dont worry i can asist you in fixing any problem you might have.

Thank you

This seems very hard to do without timezones matching and some set times for when to play (it would last forever without any set commitment). Also listing what tweaks would be nice.. The scope of time required would also be nice to mention (which depends a lot on how often we play ofc). Dissapearing after 48 is not the worst... Disapearing after a month is much worse.

I assume this doesn't work with the widescreen mod? Would everyone have to have the same version of the mod(same resolution) for that to work? You need to open a metric ton of ports to get baldurs gate 2 to work through a router right? I am not sure if my router supports that. Does this require hamachi or similar and will it be able to ?

As for seriousness/staying around you have exactly one post in this forum (this one).

What difficulty / reloads etc will we be playing with?

Prefer to use skype or windows live messenger for IM for initial contact as i currently do not have Ventrilo installed, but installing it is not impossible.

Oh yeah one more thing, the topic only says BG 2 ToB, but in the posts it says BG 2 and ToB, so does it include SoA too? I am probably only interested if it includes SoA.

Timezone matching is not important. This is basiclly whenever the user is online type of deal. If your a resoniable active gamer as most people are it shouldnt be a issue. Nice thing about Baldurs Gate MP is that you can easily add/remove/replace existing toons with someone elses.

I assume this doesn't work with the widescreen mod?

Widescreen mod does not cause sync-issues when playing MP, i use widescreen it doesnt have to match.

Would everyone have to have the same version of the mod(same resolution) for that to work?

Are you asking same version of widescreen? or save version of the mods installed? Refer to answer above for widescreen. In regards to other mods such as Fixpack and Tweak pack it does matter.

You need to open a metric ton of ports to get baldurs gate 2 to work through a router right? I am not sure if my router supports that. Does this require hamachi or similar and will it be able to ?

Wrong, also keep in mind the person hosting(me) most likely will be the person needing to take care of ports. Hamaci is a VPN client which makes games think there playing in LAN. BG2 Does not support Lan game lobbys (aka its only direct ip be it external or internal it dont matter so no point in using hamachi). Also every router supports opening ports.

As for seriousness/staying around you have exactly one post in this forum (this one).

This matters why? I am simply interested in finding people that want to play Organized MP.

What difficulty / reloads etc will we be playing with?

Normal / not sure what you mean by reloads.

Prefer to use skype or windows live messenger for IM for initial contact as i currently do not have Ventrilo installed, but installing it is not impossible.

No Problem, we can start with a forum pm?

I dont really understand your question. Since BG2 is SoA. I think your asking me if were gonna play though SoA?? Yes we would its the best part :P

Great, would change the topic though since it gives the impression of just playing ToB (and not SoA, instead of both). Might make more people interested. Will be though to get a full party though.

What i mean by reloads, what will we do if everyone were to die for example? What if someone gets chunked? Are they out? Do they get to make a new character?

Great about being able to use widescreen.

From portforwarding.com it says that my current router does not support opening enough ports to play bg2.

Why not post a list of what tweaks you want to use here in the thread?

trust me i can get ports open.

Send me a pm please with your msn or whatever you would like to use to communicate.

I dont include a tweak list since it would be extremely long and i would prefer to decide with whoever is interested in doing a party.

Doesnt look like Sarge is interested anymore, is anyone else down for a MP group for BG2 SoA or ToB or both with the same or similar install n rules as sarge mentioned?

we could do it easily with 3 or 4. I'm playing a party right now with just a ranger/cleric, a stalker, and an illusionist/thief. I like small parties :)

4 or 5 tops would be good for me

Sweet so theres 4 of us, can you guys use this http://wwp.greenwichmeantime.com/ and give a time frame in GMT Standard time that you would be playing...so we can try n work out a time for everyone.

I havent actually played a multiplayer game, so might run into some problems connecting to eachtoher, other then that.... 4 of us with 1 or 2 npcs to trade in and out for quests n stuff should be sweet i reckon.

Ah dunno bout sarge, i mean i private messaged the guy, but no response...spose after 6 days of no interest he gave up.

Yeah same here daydreamer =D.

In GMT time...im on anywhere between, 3am-11am. If im not working that day.

I wouldnt mind playing as some weird/stupid build...but if u guys arent down for that...ill go a thief/mage type. I dont think it matters much if some of us choose same classes....you can beat the game solo after all..just pick something ud enjoy playing.
Also Im up for either SoA or ToB playthrough...or both Posted Image

Oh, he just haven't replied? Then he just might be on vacation for christmas/new year and still join up. I have not played multiplayer either, but i hear that it is somewhat a hassle, as such i suggest we at least wait until after new year to start to see if Sarge pops up again...

I thought the idea was soa + tob, and that is what i was planning to play.

I am in GMT + 1 timezone, when i can play depends on the time, but usually the evenings, which i guess will be somewhere in the range of 17-02 gmt (though certainly not all the time and sometimes outside of that time too). So seems like our timeschedules are conflicting already :/. I have played some multiplayer games with people from other timezones before and it is not as hassless as the OP imagine it to be, but given that we are in so different timezones (what timezone are you in?), we probably have to arrange times to play in.

classes i imagine don't matter too much. People should play whatever they feel like playing. Since we are starting a fresh game i imagine we chose that when starting. Playing with only single class unkitted druids might be challening, but still doable, any other combination should be easier. Personally I can't help myself but powergame within the constraints of my character (meaning i'll get the best equipment and skills possible for that class), though i imagine we'll be forgoing a lot of cheese on this playthrough. Someone should prolly play x/thief or thief planning to dualclass to something from the start as it is a hassle to bypass all traps and locks without a thief present, though if we are only 4-5 we could always pick up jan/imoen. Any late dualclasses to thief doesn't count for these purposes, but it might be possible to get by without a thief at all anyway if people are familiar with the layout.

Playstyles probably matter too, i prefer to pause a lot when i play single player. If some of you can't stand pausing that might be a problem.

GMT time is global, its easier for me to work it out that way, but im GMT +10 if its easier that way for you.

About sarge, i doubt it. but if other people want to wait then alright. In the mean time...just post what time and classes you prefer so we can all find out what kind of party wed have, dont want a full party of all fighters example.

After we all know what class were playing, prolly a good idea to start a single player game with the build you want to play as...use the auto save from the beginging to import your character when we hook up in the multiplayer screen.. Might save alot of time with everyone rerolling stats etc.

Yeah pausing...you can set that up on the permisson options, could limit it to say who needs to use it the most(healer maybe), or could pause little or not at all the entire time...and just deal with things as they happen.

I'm in GMT -6 here (USA central). Don't know if it would work but I'm usually free on the weekends or in the evenings.

That would be sweet zombie if you played a mage thief. I was thinking a multiclass cleric/mage for myself with little to no healing spells (all buff, de-buff, and attack).

my best play times would probably be:

Monday-Thursday: 3am-5am (GMT)

Friday-Saturday: 4pm-2am (GMT)

Sunday: 8pm-4am (GMT)

I think my first choice for a character would be a multiclass cleric/mage. Second would be a totemic druid or a thief/mage.

I imagine if someone goes with cleric type spells they would probably use some healing spells before we get rings of regeneration.

I am not sure what I want to play. I really don't think it is a problem if we all go fighter types though. Either Inquisitor or Illusionist/fighter or Kensai/mage or Berserker/mage or Kensai/thief or sorceror. Could also go Fighter/druid if we want more healing power(dual wielding scimitars). Probably an Illusionist/Fighter if i am not leading the party. Basically I want something that can hack away in meele but be able to do other stuff too... If we don't want to powergame too much I'll play fighter/druid.

Thief/Mage is fine, but if you want to play some weird build that is fine too...

Ouch, Australia(or something close to there) + europe + usa is rather hard to find time for everyone. 2(1) am to 6(7) am is typically impossible for everyone. That means gmt 3 to 7, 12 to 18 and 20 to 24 are pretty hard, if you make that 1 to 7 that makes the whole area of ~11 to ~1 improbable, with a tiny sliver of hope around early morning for ZombieChow and late night for thedaydreamer, slighly more probable is from around 24(00) gmt to ~03 gmt which would mean late for me and early for thedaydreamer. The last option which is the most probable is 7/8 to 11/12 gmt which is early morning for me and late for ZombieChow. This is of course not factoring in work/studies and other things happening during the day(so might be mostly weekends)... It all depends on how far we are willing to go for this.

What timezone are you in Raeannmac?

thedaydreamer wrote...
Monday-Thursday: 3am-5am (GMT)

this is 4 to 6 am my time, not very possible... Do you have any other times during those days you can play at all?

thedaydreamer wrote...
Friday-Saturday: 4pm-2am (GMT)
Sunday: 8pm-4am (GMT)

Some of this time could probably work for me given that it is 17(21) to 3 my time, but it is from 2(6) am to 12 for ZombieChow so may fit some or not at all.

Oh yeah can we please use the 24 hour clock when talking about times? AM/PM is so easy to mess up and it can be confusing.

Hi guys. I am very interested of your plan. I haven't ever finished BG2! I am quite flexible with the times, though when my squadron flies SEOW missions in IL-2 I wont certainly be able to participate on BG2.

Of the character class I can't say yet. I am obsessed with mages, but rogues and barbarians are fine too. I am maybe looking to become obsessed with rogues.

I was thinking about this today and I realized that I would also enjoy playing a halfling bounty hunter, have to see what the party layout is later.

I work Monday through Thursday from 8-7:30 my time (2:00-13:30pm GMT) so unfortunately there's not much I can do about the time with the possible exception of getting up early and playing for a couple of hours very early in the morning (say 10:00-12:00 GMT).

Friday, Saturday, and Sunday I'm pretty free and flexible with my time. Also, I wouldn't be looking to play multiplayer more than about twice a week. I'm not sure what everyone else's expectations are...

24 Hour GMT i could be available in :
22:00 to 11:00
12 Hour GMT Time:
10pm to 11am

Basically 8am to round 10pm australian time. If we get a timeframe we can all play in, im flexible with the time i just said. Given i dont have to work the next day if it turns into a late night.

Post ur prefered time and ur flexible time guys...well work out something.

Probably dont want to powergame and fly through everything quickly...spose 1 of us can go an OP build just so we dont have too much of a hard time.

Main preference has changed to some kind of healing class (day dreamer can be that halfing bounty hunter Posted Image), weird stupid build is a multiclass cleric combo.

@daydreamer, im interested in a few more sessions then that, but lets find out what everyone else prefers and well come up with something.

I'm in eastern time (from Canada) and I'm available at various times seeing as how my school schedule is very random. In GMT I'm free mostly anytime before 10 am or after 1 pm throughout the week and on weekends I'd be free during the mornings/early afternoons (in my timezone).

As for class I usually play as some form of a mage or rogue but I'd be willing to play anything at all based on what the group needs.

From what i gather,

day dreamer wants to play a thief bounty hunter
oyzar wants some kind of fighter/mage build
You would prefer a mage/thief
And im after a healing class, cleric or druid.

Now all we need to do is make the class we want in single player, so we can import to multiplayer when were all ready to play. Just need to figure out a playing time for all of us now, and if we are going to wait for more people or start with with the four of us.

Rae, how many hours before 10am GMT are you free? and how many after 1 pm? And what time in GMT are u free on the weekends?

Do we all have ventrillo with a mic? or even msn messenger?

I have a mic, i also have skype and msn messenger... haven't installed ventrillo yet.

Prefered time is what i said above somewhere in the range of 17 to 01 gmt but i am rather flexible for a few months (meaning from like 7). About how much to play per week i would prefer more than a couple times, but i suppose it is fine as a start(and will be hard to organize too much given times as well).

I imagine finding each other and agreeing on what IM to use would be a good start, then it is easier to discuss stuff like classes as well. We need someone to lead the party. Preferably that character goes with a high cha/wis/int, though just using the ring of human influence could work. If sarge doesn't come back, can you do that zombiechow(being that you will likely have high wis and int already)? Being able to cast friends is nice for those last 2 points of cha, assuming we aren't abusing stealing/rebuying from merchants or similar, is nice.

I'll go with a gnome illusionist/fighter i think. Before we roll up any characters we need to decide on what tweaks/fixes to use as they might break saves..

Install order; Soa, Tob, Tob patch, BG2 Fixpack (core fixes only), widesceen mod if applicable to you. I dont think widescreen mod would clash. Best not to have any more mods then this, ive heared multiplayer is hard enough to connect to eachother, having sync issues from mods will make it worse.

Contact each other on MSN messenger, prolly the most easiest way. I'll PM each of you mine, i suggest you do the same with eachother.

Spose i could host, although australia has pretty crappy internet speeds, probably better if the person with best speed hosts.
http://www.speedtest.net/
Posted Image

Would u guys mind testing ur speed, and posting the results here, click on 'copy forum link' when test is finished.

If i do end up hosting, im rolling a multiclass fighter cleric, ill have high wis, but low int, ring of influence can take care of my charisma, and charm spells for a bit extra, do preists even have charm spells? We wont be cheating or abusing to get the best gear, just play for fun...saying this, i imagine INT of 10 with no negative or positive effects isnt going to hurt.

Oyzar, would you mind reading what times people have said they prefer and work out the best time frame for us, im terrible at calculating different times n such, take into account if anyones said thier hours are flexible.

Hosting overseas is going to be limited by that more than local speed anyway, so what matter most for a host is the ability to work with the router to make ports available. At my current location I don't have access to the router at all, and at home I don't know if I can open enough ports to host. If someone either have experience with hosting BG2 games or know what can be done with networking in general those would be best as hosts.
