I don't think whoever host have to be the number 1 slot character. Hosting is different from leading. A Fighter/cleric would indeed not be the best choice....

@Raeannmac : the party doesn't need anything if we got a couple fighters, a mage, a cleric and a thief. So just chose whatever class you feel would be most fun/comfortable.

Oyzar and i just successfuly had a working multiplayer game. We got past were u get tortuted before he teleports out ( i got an error here and it crashed here for me, even my computer rebooted lol, fixed it by getting oyzar to save our progess, exiting the session, and creating a new session with the saved game, in hopes of skipping past that error, it worked) and got as far as killing that mephit imp thing behind the door near the golem before oyzar had to go.

We used gameranger to connect up, so we didnt have to port forward our routers, it worked great. I suggest you guys get it http://www.gameranger.com/

Clear instructions are given on the website after hitting the download button. and connecting to an existing BG2 session is very simple.

@ ZombieChow : Ranger cleric is better than fighter/cleric, and it isn't overpowered when compared to my illusionist/fighter, though maybe i should change(the free two * are nice and ironskin and summon woodland being is also pretty good)...

When generating characters we have to take the party into account as that gives what weapon profencities we should chose. Kensai is best for using katana (celestial fury) due to kai, but it is also useable for backstabbing or high apr fighter(stun).

If there is a fighter/cleric or ranger cleric it should probably take flail of ages(flails/morningstars) and maybe defender of easthaven(another flail) and later crom fayer(warhammer).

2 handed weapons aren't really worth it pre-tob for fighters except for paladins as GWW makes same number of attacks compared to 2 weapons + improved haste...

There is only kudane and belm that are great offhand weapons, though the defender of easthaven and crom fayer are pretty hot too. Scarlet ninja-to is also pretty good for people who can get UAI, however it can't backstab, and it is obviously somewhat later in the game. There is also the katana that gives extra spells.

I chose ** in katana and * in scimitar for now. Aiming to get celestial fury and belm rather soon... Though i could see switching to something else. Maybe the axe of unyeilding chance to decimate at some point in tob(+belm)?

Of course this is one of the better thief weapons so maybe i should roll up a new character with axes, then use frostreaver or stonefire until i can get axe of unyeilding.

Yes, well definetly need to find out some things before we set our classes in stone. Need to  figure out whose leading ( obviously those who arent leading can get away with low CHA n WIS for better combat stats ) Does host have to be leader btw? If not, maybe a mage can be leader, to get his familiar.

As you said, well need to figure out who is going to take these wepaons, so we can set up our proficenies etc. Although personally, im quite happy not to focus on weapons n gear that much, and just take whatever i come across.

I dont think we should worry about being too overpowered. Although itd be nice to be a bit weaker, to rely on teamwork a bit more, but multiclass characters are fairly weak in the beginning so well see how things go. Just pick whatever class or build you would enjoy playing.

Oyzar you work out a good time frame for us yet? is there any major conflicting times for some of us?

We can switch around who is leading to let all mages get familiars i think. A single class sorceror, a bard, a paladin or a cleric mage(prolly with ring of human influence) might be best for leading.

Though for RP reasons i would prefer if the leader is not a paladin :P

The leader certainly does not have to host.

If its possible to switch around, great.

Ive already rolled my class. Fighter/cleric.

Come on guys, if ur still commited to this, start getting active. Just letting you guys know im really keen on starting already, and if it comes to it, ill replay BG2 by myself if it comes to that.

If anyone else is serious about a MP group, nows the time to speak up.

Oyzar said some hard to understand time frames in his earlier post, but there are two times when its more probable for everyone; 24 Hour GMT

24:00 to 03:00

07:00 to 12:00

Day dreamer and Rae, these two times fit the majority of people, if you could use the GMT 24 hour clock and work out what this calculates as in your time, and post if you can work with either of these times, or if you can do it, but one hour short or later etc.

As well as checking ur message inbox on these forums for my email address, and send yours to eachother so we can stay in contact when in multiplayer. (BG2 does have ingame chat, but if someone disconnects or gets errors, we can find out whats happening in msn messenger)

Once we all agree on some set times, we can organize which time frame would suit certain day/s best and finally end up playing some MULTIPLAYER BALDURS GATE 2!!!Posted Image

I definitely want to do this. I am in Est time but can be on whenever. Let me know the starting date and time and I will be online and ready. I am pretty excited to do this. I do all classes but mage classes - I'm not big on the mage deal. Shoot me a message on here and I will send you my contact information for messengers, I don't want them posted on a public forum.

Good to have you onboard jester.

The run might have to be with just a few of us. Its really hard to organize a run through, especially when everyones in different time zones, and arent active on the forums to post if they can make certain times etc.

Jester make sure you got this install order: BG2 SoA > ToB > ToB Patch > BG2 Fixpack (core fixes only) > Widescreen Mod if applicable to you. Also dont forget to download and register for gameranger. Just sit tight for a bit, if we dont get any replies from day and rae, might just have to be you, ozyar and i.

Dont forget to roll the class you want to play in singleplayer, so you can import to multiplayer game once we start.

24:00 to 03:00 will be the most convenient time for me. I will reinstall BG and roll my character.

We got another person interested in playing, its not any of the people who posted in this thread, hes from new zealand and hes all good with 24:00 to 3:00. This will be our timeframe btw.

Also jester brang up an important issue about classes. If most of us are multiclass, the experience required between all our mutliclasse persons will be much greater, leading to much slower lvls for all of us. This could be a problem.

One solution is to dual class. If we all dual class though, well be a bunch of lvl 1 noobs getting owned.

Another is to just pick a pure class.

Not sure how much more slower 3 or more multiclass people would bring down the whole party by, if anyone does...let me know.

The answer is the same as earlier that it really doesn't matter what classes we pick. Multiclassing is not that much worse than singleclass for the early game and while dual class is probably the most powerful, at least for some combinations (most notably fighter duals as they allow for grandmastery) the difference is not that large, and multiclass get 2 kinds of hlas.

Someone doing multiclass does not slow down the rest of the party.

It does, whether you believe it or not. Also, it's a poor RPG element for a lot of characters to be multiclassing. But either way, it won't be my characters. lol

Weekends would probably be the best but weekdays aren't too bad either, really any day works for me, just not every day of the week. lol

yeah great jester. Just gotta find out oyzars days. The guy from new zealand is down for any date i think. When you and oyzar have some dates that much, ill work withit hopefully.

Also this is pretty much our party layout;

zombiechow - fighter/cleric
oyzar - fighter/mage
Jester - thief
Paradox - mage or sorceror ( still deciding )

So we got two mutliclass players...i really dont think its going to much of a disadvantge, human controlled players beat npcs any day of the week.

Ive tested multiplayer with every person listed in party, no one has any problems connecting.

Day and Rae, if u guys are still interested, nows the time to speak up. We are getting very close to starting.

I think I actually miscalculated the times that work earlier... while 3 to 7 is correctly middle of the night for me, the night for aussie/new zealand is actually 16 to 20 or something and for america(jester/day) it is 7 to 11 or something. This means that the times we can play at is quite different than what i earlier said. 11 to 16 is during the morning for america(and afternoon for me) and could work depending on how flexible schedules we have, another option is the now much wider window of 20 to 3(and 3 is really quite late for me so i might not be able to play that long every time anyway) depending on how willing ZombieChow and his off-forum New zealand friend is to wake up early... Me waking up early to play serves little purpose when it is extreemly late at night for our eastcoasters anyway.

Oh yeah as for mage vs sorceror, unless you are multi or dualclassing I would chose a sorceror as they have more spells per day and you don't have to chose before each battle exactly what spells you want to use for that battle. A mage will be able to use more spells total, but really the spellpicks by a sorceror should be enough if used wisely. If going for a singleclass mage I would recomend a wild mage as it just seems more fun, but any specialist class is useable (though preferably not illusionist as that will prevent us from using necromancy spells altogether).

Oh yeah party leader: I would prefer if someone who doesn't have too much experience with the game leading as it will be refreshing following (and giving input to) someone who haven't played the game all that much... A single class mage or sorceror is fine for party leader btw, just dump strength to like 9 and get a belt of giant strength or something, also a caster can keep himself protected with spells and stay out of the frontlines preventing reloads.

Paradox's gaming hours are 24:00 to 12:00 in 24 hour GMT. Very close to my available time.

Night time in 24 hour GMT for me is 9:00 to 13:00, thats roughly 8pm to 12pm iny my local time.

What time is 24:00 to 3:00  24 hour GMT in ur local time? so i can understand how late at night that is for u.

I honestly can't understand the 24 hour clock. I would rather not stay up playing past 10 or 11pm my time.

24 is 23 my time etc, so the earlier start the better as i would ideally finish then, but it is possible to keep playing a bit further... You sleep 16 hours, or does that include work(or similar)?

Also MSN...

This isnt working, cant keep waiting 1 day for posts that dont help.

EVERYONE must be on gameranger at 24:00 GMT Tomorrow. Im aware this may be a day ahead of ur countries locations, use the 24 hour GMT clock to figure it out. Be on a day before , after watvea to make sure you dont miss this.

Once we get everyone together with constant IM's, we can finally work this out.

I already informed someone of my absence, but since it didn't get around - I have left town until Friday. If you all are going to run the game without me, I apologize but am sorry I can't join. If you will hold it, I'd be grateful.

I might be home in time on Thursday but it is doubtful.
