Hi guys,

Despite doing every single assignment, surveying every single resource, salvaging every probe and exiting the mako to make every single kill, I was unable to reach lvl 60 by the end of my second playthrough (got to lvl 57).  I also did the BDtS DLC to add a few more points.

The only thing that I can think of doing is that I should have left the "scan the keeper" asignment until I had a higher lvl, but other than that, I don't know what else I could have done to get to lvl 60 by the end of the game.

I'm also wondering if it's worth my effort to do a third playthrough and to try for lvl 60 yet again.  Is the lvl 60 import bonuses in ME2 worth it?  What are they compared to importing a lvl 57 character?

Thanks!

I got to level 57 in one playthrough and I didn't do the collection missions. Did you kill everything on foot?

You have to get out of your Mako and finish off every enemy on foot. It's high risk, high reward.

Look up a ME1 quest checklist online. Make sure to kill everything while outside of the Mako. You should have no problems getting to 60 in 2 playthroughs. I just finished a playthrough today with a new character and I hit 58 during the battle for the Citadel.

Dunno what to tell you then, was this your first time playing ME 1 ever? If so, it might have been because you didn't have the +% exp achievements for the entire game.

It's my second playthrough. The first one unlocked lvls 51-60 and boosted my experience earned. Apparently it wasn't enough to get me to 60 though. The only other thing I thought of was that game crash I experienced during the first playthrough. Some of my achievements were lost apparently, and so maybe I wasn't earning as many experience points as I should have.

My first run I usually get to level 57 if I do a completionist, then hit a speed run doing only the major story planets and Wrex's armor misison gets me to 59.5. The final run I do is another completionist to get all the endings I want for a carry over to ME2. So I know if you do everything twice you should be able to get to 60 in 2 completionist runs, and several people have said yes they have done it. So it sounds like you missed something or the bonuses you get from completing the higher levels really make a huge difference, since I have all the bonuses from multiple completions.

Yeah that's it, the first time you play the game your limited to level 50, you can't go from level 50 to level 60 in one playthrough.

Haha, I'm guessing it's that crash I experienced. I'm talking about not being able to reach lvl 60 in my SECOND playthrough after that game crash during my FIRST playthrough.

I'm more concerned with whether I should strive for that lvl 60 or simply settle for lvl 57. What are the consequences of importing a lvl 57 character into ME2 vs a lvl 60 character?

Just to piggy-back onto this, since I found it out the hard way, you also can't get any character that you started before beating the game past level 50. So if you started 3 different characters before finally deciding which one to beat the game with, like I did, the other two characters can only get to 50 the first time through. At least, that is the case for the PC version.

Importing a level 60 lets you start ME2 at level 5. I think below 60 but above 50 lets you start at level 4, so the difference is minimal.

My very first playthough I completed the game as 40+ Shep, second was like ~56, then third I got to ~59. So it was like four playthoughs to get to 60 for me.

Once I got all of the exp % bonuses, I was able to get to 58 on another character and that was with taking out all thresher maws, colossus, turrets and fighting as many enemies as possible. Also I hit 58 close to entering the Citadel Tower before the final battle.

Stryker: You starting a new character for your second playthrough, or importing the one used in the first? You need to import the same character from the first playthrough in order to hit 60. Once you hit 60 with that character, it will unlock the extra XP bonus, which will allow all future characters to hit 60 on a single playthrough.

Bogsnot1:

Umm, here's what I did:

1. After my VERY FIRST playthrough (e.g. character X), I hit level 50.

2. I started my SECOND playthrough with a NEW character (e.g. character Y). I was able to hit level 57 by the end of the game.

Are you saying that I should have used character X (first character) for my second playthrough of ME1?

Some people find it easiest to speed through playthroughs 2 and 3 to reach level 60, as the main missions tend to offer more experience than the side quests.

Wow I'm really embarrassed now. For some reason I thought that it'd be possible for me to reach lvl 60 on a new character so long as I have played ME1 before and obtained the achievements that gave me extra experience points. I was also unaware of the fact that you start at your previous level if you play the game again using the same character, and that THAT was what people were referring to as my second playthrough. My bad!

^Live and learn. It isn't possible to start a 1 level character and get to 60 in one play. If you do completionist runs you can start a 1st level character and go through the game 2 times with it to get to 60, or if you don't mind doing 3 runs you can not put any pts into conversation skills and use the bonuses to them to get maxed in 3 runs. Later runs you start at your ending of last game level and keep all your gear, except you will lose tali's Omni tool(at least I always do) and any equip on the Virmire dead. As a bonus you will have all your personal equipment duplicated into inventory.

The higher level and better equipment will mean easier games almost to the point of a cakewalk, and once you hit 60 you no longer receive XP so you can skip fights if you want because they will get you nothing like in ME2 which will greatly increase the speed of the run.

I can get from 0 to 57 easily in single playthrough. Kill everything outside Mako.

I know I am lazy, but after having played through the game already multiple times and then not wanting to go through everything again, I just enabled the console and added the remaining XP right before the endfight to get to level 60. If you positively do the playthoutough to get to said level instead of finding new things, I recommend using the console.

ive gotten to level 54 without worry of killing on foot and doing boring collection assignments. if you want level 60 just play the game untill your level 60. dont worry about how long r how fast you can get there.

If you're not really interested in another play through and are on pc you can always use the console to give yourself the extra experience.

See http://masseffect.wi.../wiki/PC_Cheats

That is a pretty comprehensive list of what you can do with the console.
