I think it is a bad idea to let people decide if Shep dies or not. It will be just like ME2, people can play the 'Shep dies' playtzhrough but everyone knows he didn't really.

Even though it would probably break my heart, I think Shepard dying in the end of ME3 would make a better ending. Actually, because it would break my heart it would be the better ending.

As others have said, I agree that there should be multiple endings and Shepard dying being in more than one. Whilst it does make sense that the only way Shep could die is if virtually all (but possibly 1) of their squad was dead and thus no one to pull Shep up (or bothered to if there was 1) whilst Joker gives covering fire. But that is only because of it being in the middle of the trilogy. There is nothing to stop them giving more ways Shep can die in this one.

Also I think the choices that account to the 'Perfect ending' (or more to the point what people consider it if everyone survives, sorry but that isn't everyones 'Perfect ending') should be much harder/difficult in this one. Going up against the Collectors is one thing, going up against a group of beings who have repeated this cycle for well... a very long time, should be downright far more harder.

I consider a 'Perfect ending' to be what people would like to see of their character. For one of my characters it is as many as possible (preferably all, but not fussed if sacrifices have to be made) get out alive, another is one in which the galaxy is saved but Shep dies, another is one where Shep conquers the Reapers and turns their attention to conquering the remnants of the Galaxy, another would be Shepard having to make serious sacrifices and due to his decisions despite the reapers being stopped, the galaxy is in chaos. Then there is the one where the Reapers win.

Basically put,

"I WANT IT ALL! I WANT IT ALL! I WANT IT ALL! AND I WANT IT NOW!" XD

I'd like sacrifice ending. Really, like paragon Shepherd would sacrifice. I can't see Shepherd having kids and gettin' old after all what happened.

I also support the idea of Shep dying with his/her LI, as PoliteAssassin said - theres some sensitive stuff in it.

Think about this BW!

I definitely support some 'Shepard dies' endings, or endings where you have to make some major sacrifices. I mean, we're talking about the REAPERS! Millions of generations of galactic communities have perished to these guys. To finish Shepard's story & end the Reapers unscathed would feel really unbelieveable to me.

I'll be fine if they're options, as long as they don't go the Fallout 3 route.

I realy like when in video games is sacrifice option. Like in left 4 dead (newest addon), fallout (1 and 3) and dragon age. In mass effect 2 i dont like it becouse i havent got any choice. My shep dies and i cant do anything. I wish it will be better in me3. I wish there will be final sacrifice just like in intro of me2 (when shepard dies in normandy if you dont know what i mean). I will love that option. Rest i can say everything like sir ulrich, cause i agree with that...

death should be optional or a consequence of your actions

shepard should be at least injured at the start of ME3, BUT on another note ME3 should read data from the ME2 savegame to workout who is still alive and maybe just MAYBE have it read data from the ME1 savegame that way it will mix and match both things on them.

like if you played ME1 and aiden survived and you did not import the save to ME2 and aiden died the game SHOULD automaticly make it that aiden is in a deathly coma where you the player have a certain amount of time to save or euthinaize aiden.

(aiden is just one of many varibles so bear with me)

it should make assumptions on who lived and died on the first 2 and make a new save game based on the data avalible so heres hoping

It's quite possible that you will have the choice of sacrificing Shepherd to save others at the end. And of course your decisions from the first two games will play a large part in who lives and who dies.

Shep is that awesome, that s/he can save millions of lifes even after ME3. So killing him/her on purpose would be stupid. That's why I prefered if it is unavoidable. But even though I find Shep surviving a bit cheesy I can also live with that.

I honestly believe that Shepard will die in Mass Effect 3. I know, not the best outcome but think about it. Through out the whole trilogy we have been crafting this ultimate hero-paragon or not- he/she has saved the galaxy on two separate occasions (maybe even more if I'm mistaken) and will stop at nothing to stop the reapers. Does anyone sense an ultimate sacrifice choice coming up on ME3. I do, and honestly, I wouldn't want to kill of my Shepard any other way then having him sacrifice his life for the greater good. Does anyone feel me?

If you think about it:

ME1: Shep almost dies.
ME2: Shep dies but comes back.
ME3: ???

Man I am so torn with this.

On one hand, we've already seen Shepard die once. Not that it wouldn't be awesome to see him/her go out in a blaze of glory, but I don't want to sit there and go, 'Oh, again?' or better yet, 'Hello Warden!'

On the other hand, seeing Shepard with some heroic sacrifice could be quite moving if done well. Shepard picks the squad to take with him/her on the final mission, knowing none of them will come back. Goodbyes are said, business is taken care of, and you get one final line/embrace from your squadmates before everything explodes.

Actually yeah, I like this. If Shepard is going to end up dying in ME3, I want the final squad you choose to die as well. One final battle, marching to their deaths with their heads held high.

Sounds cool but I instead I would want Shepard to go it alone. He/She says goodbye to the squad, has a touching moment with the love interest, then gets into a Mako filled with explosives. The Normandy launches the mako into Harbinger sending Shepard out in a blaze of glory!

I like that. On one hand that helps with the "choices have weight to be carried" them Mass Effect has. Which squad members would you want to die with. If their loyal they'll say yes. But then again, this could be one of the few times that Shepard is without a squad. OH! He can choose whether to go it alone or take a squad with him! Going it alone being the paragon choice, taking a squad being renegade. But the loyal squad members will want to go with Shepard. OOOOOOOH THIS IS GETTING EXCITING!!!

I strongly hope that based on your decisions there will be three major choices:

If you can put up a formidable force, you can save Earth.

Otherwise you can save yourself and let the planet be destroyed or sacrifice yourself to save Earth.

Or something like this.

My problem w/ Shepard dying at the end of ME3 is that s/he already did die ... in the beginning of ME2. I've already seen Shep die (and what a meaningless death it was) so that sort of weakens the emotional punch some what, at least for me. I'm sure there will be a ending where s/he will die, but BW shot themselves in the foot w/ the idiotic ME2 resurrection. For me, at least, it's not really a question of if Shep will die, but how is BW going to sell it?

Awesome import. You survived with nine KIA and one you killed on your own in ME2? You freaking rock man. So you kept Kasumi and Samara, eh? It would be interesting just to play the game over and stack the odds against you like that just to see how the gameplay changes in ME3. I think I'll do that in fact.

Already pre-ordered ME3, so it's just a matter of time for me.
